As a former ER nurse, you will be happy to know that bc the mom gave her the tapeworms purposefully, the hospital was legally obligated to report the mom to the state for child endangerment ☺️

The kid could probably sue her mom for at the very least, pain and suffering. That's a totally winnable case and she has proof from the hospital. The only thing the mother could do at that point is try to convince the judge that she didn't intentionally try to cause that pain and suffering, but stupidity is not a viable defense. I know I would sue that bird for everything she's got if I were her daughter. I know it's a reenactment, but all that for a f*cking pageant? This is why I think children's pageants like this should be outlawed. Moron parents like this do too much and go too far. Let the kids explore their own life instead of trying to mold it for them.

As a nurse myself this happens DAILY. Not the tapeworms, but patients and family members like the girl's mother. If you do not want the nurse's or doctor's help, stay the hell home please.
It makes no sense i tell it allllll... even at the dentist. I play no games with my health they've seen it all so im not trying to impress them or hide anything.
Moms an RN and sometimes when she'd get home I'd offer to just listen to her talk if she had to deal with annoying relatives of patients.

In home health it's really bad for us nurses. Now you are in their home they think they can talk to you and treat you any way because you are not out in public. Not all parents and gaurdians act horrible, but the ones that do, yeesh.

I agree as well, although nurses don't know every bit of technical medical detail, they're a lot better at the immediate problems like wounds and easily treatable problems. But when it comes to something more complex such as a condtition no one's ever heard of or is rare like Hydradenitus Suppurativa or HS they arent as qualified. But i still agree with you on that.

Doctor here. If the patient is a minor, then the mom can be charged with abuse. This is beyond messed up. And the entitlement the mom shows is just ridiculous. The ER staff are just trying to help!!
Yeah, she's a mid teenage girl from what I know. She could probably sue her mom for that, at the very minimum for pain and suffering. Either way, if the daughter wants, she could press criminal charges, and there's really nothing that would her from save this. A good lawyer might keep her out of the joint but she's gonna lose custody almost immediately.

I worked as an ER nurse for 10 years and believe me, people like this mom are not out of the ordinary. I had a patient once who yelled at me for being late with his narcotic pain shot when behind the curtain in the next room we were literally doing CPR, trying to save someone. He had to have heard all the commotion and crying from the family because the room was only separated by a curtain. All I could do was smile, apologize for the inconvenience and give him his meds.
Mad props to you. My mom was an ER nurse for children so I know how hectic it can be, but having added disruption from disrespectful parents, or anyone for that matter, takes a special type of discipline.

Years ago, I watched that awful show "Monsters Inside Me" and convinced myself that I had a tapeworm, because no matter how much I ate during the day, I'd wake up with severe hunger pains the next morning. Turns out, I'm a chronic sleep-eater. But at least it wasn't worms!

My Granddad used to give himself a tapeworm every 6months or so when he wanted to lose weight. Once he got down to the weight he thought was appropriate, he’d take medication to get rid of it. Rinse and repeat for like 5 years. Man was wild.
Edit: My grandparents were missionaries in Burundi at the time, so getting a tapeworm was probably not all that difficult.

I am an ICU nurse and we deal with family members like this all the time. I had a patient literally BLEEDING out- GI bleed secondary to alcoholism- and as I am trying to administer a live saving blood transfusion her mom was yelling at me to get her ICE CHIPS because her daughter was so thirsty. I straight up told her I was going to prioritize her life saving blood transfusion and I could get her the ice chips afterwards. But yes, this behavior is not out of the ordinary. Recently I had a COVID pt you could not even turn or barely touch he was so sick and the daughter wanted to transfer him to another facility. It's like, he will DIE the second we put him on a gurney, no. We get talked down to and treated like we are complete morons because the family members "googled it" on a regular basis.

Fun fact that this mom probably should’ve read before she fed her daughter tape worms. You’re starving yourself essentially, they’re eating all the food and you get little nutrients. Plus! If you decide to stop eating and take tape worms, guess what they eat! Correct! You!!! At a very slow rate but still.
More importantly those tapeworm larve migrate throughout the body in organs, muscles and sometimes the brain then form cysts. These cysts can crowd out organs (worse in the brain) they can also rupture and put out even more larve to spread throughout the body....

Actually not true: taking tapeworm eggs means you will end up with juvenile tapeworms, the cysts. Those are extremely dangerous because they travel and can end up in your muscles (best case scenario) or brains (worst case scenario)
You can only get adult tapeworms by eating the cysts like for example by eating raw meat with cysts inside.
Adult tapeworms are not dangerous and will not make you lose weight they do not harm you, just stay in your intestine and eat a little bit of whatever travels through there. The worst thing you'll get from an adult tapeworm is an itchy bum because parts of the tapeworm will come out.
Love how they're doing an ultrasound but reading CT films. No one does a CT on a suspected pregnant woman unless her life is in danger. The x-rays from that'll give you 3 arms lol

My dad yelled at an ER nurse once when she left a needle on my bed and then it went through the back of my arm. Made a huge scene about it. But he was just trying to protect me, So I don’t feel too bad about it
Absolutely worthy of causing a scene ❤ Go dad. Not only is it negligent , it is dangerous. Depending on the bacteria the needle could have come in contact with, re-entering your bloodstream, muscle tissue , wherever and however deep it went could have caused an infection that could lead to other problems such as nerve damage. You never know and it's better to be safe than sorry. I bet she never forgot a needle on the bed EVER again after that lol

It was at a hospital in Missouri. I was there because I had really nasty fall and my body had seized up. I couldn't walk on my own, my bf was carrying me into the emergency room. I guess on that night they decided I wasn't that much of an emergency and made me wait. I realize now my wording was weird. When I said waiting to see someone I meant the doctor.

I feel so awful for hospital staff..Well...most. I tend to be abused a fair bit if I'm alone cos I'm autistic. One nurse almost killed me. Twice. I'm chronically sick so I see a lot of them..I remember the names and faces of all the ones who were kind to me, asked me about my stuffies, stroked my hair or tucked me in..and if there are any doctors or nurses or even cleaners, you truly make a difference to people like me c: I always remember, and I always appreciate you! No job in a hospital is insignificant! Please don't let parents like this make you stop caring about us, we don't want to cause you any trouble or even make a fuss even if we should sometimes..my mum is protective cos I need a lot of help, so I know you guys understand 💗🤍💗 we truly do appreciate all your incredible work! Thank you for caring for those of us who need a little extra care! 😊☺🥰😚💗🤍💗🫂🫂🫂

The fact this isn’t uncommon and happens on a daily basis is horrifying. They should be jailed. To judge your kid on their weight is not only a low blow but to make them skinnier is telling them not to be proud of themselves unless they look a certain way. These parents give their kids a one way ticket to either an eating disorder or early grave. Trust me, losing weight isn’t worth their lives
