I had a friend in high school who told me “every girls first crush is her dad”. As a woman I will tell you right now that is completely untrue and made me so uncomfortable.
Fun fact: A mother falling in love with her son is called a Jocasta Complex, a son falling in love with his mom is an Oedipus complex, and a daughter falling in love with her dad is a Electra complex. As far as I know there's no name for a dad being in love with his daughter. The name Oedipus/Jocasta complex comes from literature, in Oedipus Rex (or Oedipus Tyrannos) by Sophocles, Oedipus was Jocasta's son. However Oedipus wasn't raised by his parents so he didn't know them. They fell in love and married, when they discovered their relation Jocasta killed herself and Oedipus blinded himself with her broach.
This is called "genetic sexual attraction" and commonly occurs when a parent and child (sometimes siblings, even grandparent and child!) are seperated when the child is very young (infant) and reunited when child is an adult. The intense feelings of love, affection and re-connection get confused into sexual attraction. They need counselling to work through their emotions to realise when they are feeling that way. It should not be validated as just a normal or healthy relationship.

I'd love to see Ken get to 5M subs soon.
At this point, I would almost say that people who were separated from their families just shouldn't reunite at all without some sort of professional involved to walk them through all of the complex emotions that'll elicit. I truly feel like incestuous couples like these are probably just people who can't handle feeling a sudden familial bond with a complete stranger, so the wires get crossed and they think it's romantic love. Some people just aren't equipped to handle that.
On an episode of Steve Wilkos, there was a father and daughter who met for the first time as adults. The father thought his daughter was ‘totally hot’ and persuaded her to enter into an incestuous relationship. They pretty much ‘made out’ on stage when they got there. Steve handed the ‘father’ (for lack of a better word) ‘his ass’ for brainwashing the daughter into believing it was ok. On an update, after talking with Steve and after show councilors, the daughter realized how manipulated she had been and how disgusting her father really was. She had left him and was in therapy. (She watched her own episode and that also influenced her to leave him.) As far as I know, she didn’t speak to him again.
@@NoName-dw5go I would be lying if I said stories like this didn't disgust me (I actually haven't made it through the whole video!), but at the same time, I can see how this keeps happening to people and ridicule won't really help them. As someone who was abused by a family member, this just makes me incredibly sick and uncomfortable. I feel like she warped his head through abuse of some sort to make him feel this way. 😕
Yeah I agree I think she immediately knew how she felt when they reconnected and has used her position of power and persuasion as his mother to coerce him and push his boundaries. Aka groomed him
i was thinking the exact same thing, it feels like shes been abusing her position of power since he was small, in hopes of brainwashing him to push very strict boundaries. He seems like a grooming victim and a mental abuse victim, which is heartbreaking. I hope you are in a safe environment now, i know how hard those situations are.
It's very apparent that the man is traumatized. He pauses way to frequently when talking about this and has a sense of awkwardness when talking to people which cannot be described as introverted. He is obviously not ok when it comes to the mental part of this relationship and this may have severely traumatized him as it happens frequently in cases such as these.
yeah I picked up on that too. I genuinely feel bad for him. I think people think he’s equally on board cause he’s trying to defend it, when often victims of abuse try to defend their abuser. He’s trying to justify it so he doesn’t need to acknowledge the abuse he’s been facing
@@decomposingmatters3927 that isn’t it. He didn’t receive any abuse from her. @@destinyoneandonly9422 as it's been said already, manipulation and abuse aren't reliant on her raising him from birth. adults are often in abusive relationships with other adults. it's very much still possible that he's a victim here. hell, even if she's not especially abusive, he's still a victim with that age gap and power imbalance lmfao.

You literally can not clear things up....she knew it was her son, regardless if they were separated for 19 years...it is absolutely unacceptable under any circumstances....period
This is what I thought. That she wasn't in his life before, and he is mistaking Mother's love as intimacy and the Mother is not Maternal enough to say no and understand it's not healthy for either of them. Boze Does True Crime explains this well in her video Marry Your Dad For What!? when she talks about then Steven and Katie Pladl part.
@@Ladyscarface I think you missed Cupcake's point - she did say she thought it was absolutely wrong. She made the point at the very least thankfully she didn't molest him as a small child. This is totally wrong and vile absolutely! They tragically are mistaking the normal love between parents and their children for normal love between two adults. This is a crime in many places - I've heard people can be arrested for incest like this.
I saw a video on TikTok about this girl dating her first cousin. She said they didn't know they were related until a few months after they started dating. She said something like, "Are we just supposed to throw all of this away because we're related?" YES. YES YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO STOP DATING IF YOU FIND OUT YOU'RE RELATED TO THEM HOLY SHIT.
Like the bother and sister who fell in love when they met. They refused to stop dating when they found out and wanted kids. I don't remember if they actually had them or not.
lmao Oh no! How can we throw away 3ish months of dating?! Bruh, I've had longer relationships in elementary school. Outside of just not being related at all finding out within a few months of a blessing. Imagine being with someone for years before you find out. 😱
If I’m remembering correctly, and I may not be, parents and children who are separated at a young age and later reunited may be unable to see each other as child/parent. These emotions that should be associated with parents/children then get confused with “love” because they can’t process the other person as their parent/child. (Again I may be wrong/misremembering this theory)
You're not wrong, there is some sort of documented phenomenon where related individuals who were not raised together often show romantic or sexual interest in each other, whether they're aware of their relation or not (generally not, though, this is a pretty effed up situation). I recall reading an article about it before, but I forget what it's called. And I super, super don't want to look it up and put that in my search history.

They probably come from a catholic background and community, and they are trying to rationalize "Why are the gays accepted in the overall society, and even in our catholic communities, but our "love" isnt?" Something along these lines is my best guess.
This happens to siblings who weren't raised together but discover each other's existences, too. It's common enough that people not raised around family members can sometimes develop incestual love towards other family members they meet as adults.
My husband knows a brother (used to be friends with him as teens) and sister that were reunited around 20 years old and they've been a couple for years. Literally trying to have a baby but (LUCKILY) they haven't been able to for years. 🤢
generally they don't know they are related. They take their common interests and mannerisms as love, instead of realizing it's because they are siblings. It's totally understandable if they don't know they are related. Clearly these people do know they are freaking mother and son.... and the mother of all people should know better because she has other kids. The son must have grew up without loving parents or something because he should know the difference too, but it's more understandable in his shoes.
He probably wasn’t actually raised by mom. Straight up this is a thing with parents and children separated at birth and reuniting as adults. There’s extensive research on it, something in their subconscious confuses the love of a parent with romantic love and more than half the time it’s a mutual attraction that ppl neeeeeed to suppress or else… this shit happens. (I went down a rabbit hole about this in college after seeing several crimes involving romantic relationships that came to be after reuniting long lost parents & kids as adults for the first time. It’s a fuckin thing. A gross thing, but a thing…) Edit: the technical term is Genetic Sexual Attraction or GSA.
There was a Dr Phil episode about Mistie Atkinson and she had slept with her 16 yr old son that she had given up for adoption and met him as a teen. It was an awful emotional mess of a show. She went to prison for awhile but idk if bc of the incest or bc they video'd some of the encounters. But yea..seems to be a thing. 🤢
No freaking way the family is on board with this. This kid was taken advantage of. Period. He was vulnerable not having his mother in his life and when she came in he didn’t know how to process his feelings.

(She watched her own episode and that also influenced her to leave him.) As far as I know, she didn’t speak to him again.

yeah I picked up on that too. I genuinely feel bad for him. I think people think he’s equally on board cause he’s trying to defend it, when often victims of abuse try to defend their abuser. He’s trying to justify it so he doesn’t need to acknowledge the abuse he’s been facing
