- There have been some pretty obscure Mega Man games over the years, ranging from DOS games to anime choose-your-own-adventure things, but perhaps one of the oddest is Mega Man and Bass: Challenger From the Future, released for the Bandai Wonderswan in 1999. Thus, today on Stuff We Play, we're doing a deep dive into The Obscure MegaMan Wonderswan Game best known as Mega Man and Bass 2!

Its not actually Quint himself, or mega man himself either, Rockman Shadow is actually what the original intended Quint was before Wily ditched R-Shadow to instead travel into the future to reprogram mega man himself, thus leaving R-Shadow as an abandoned prototype

@@StuffWePlay In the game's story itself lol, so in another-terms R-Shadow is just an attempted recreation of Mega Man but Wily ditched the idea to instead time travel

I played this recently this week and noticed in the review that you referred to Mega Man(Rockman) Shadow as Quint, and me being a Mega Man nerd was compelled to explain the Mega Man Shadow is not Quint. Mega Man Shadow is a failed prototype for Quint, and was scrapped. Although he manages to repair himself and destroys the world of the future. Going back in time in hopes that someone would stop him. Also while I'm here solid review man. I found this channel when I was looking up Mega Man and Bass 2 reviews to see how others thought about the game and ended up watching a lot of your videos. Keep up the good work.
I love Rockman and Forte for the super Nintendo! The music is lovely and it is difficult...quite difficult.

Oh wow, I knew about most of the obscure Mega Man games but I’d never heard of this at all. The Wonderswan was just such a weird console.
The only reason why any of us back in the day heard of the Wonderswan was for the remake of Final Fantasy 1 (pre gba and Playstation 1) and the Macross games. Good video as usual.
The FF ports are pretty great, especially 4!

I'm a Mega Man fan since NES and Game Boy and follow a number of artists on Twitter. The first time I saw these robot masters, I thought they were fan-made, then I found out there was a whole other game we never got in the west! Wish I could play it somehow. If we were ever going to get an entry with some semblance of bridging the gap between Classic and X, this was it.
Been a Mega Man fan for at least 22 years and never heard of this. Crazy! Thanks for the informative video! I only wish you'd touched on the different special weapons more, like what each boss gives you and what the weapons do.
I feel like MM8BDM took some serious notes from this game. I mean, I know V4 was all about MM&B but the fact that it focuses on King leading a rebellion instead of him just trying to insert robot superiority like he did in the first MM&B. Granted, MM9 was all about a robot rebellion and an expiration date, but then again this is MM&B2 and you mentioned something about a rebellion in the end so its not too far off, no?
That, and Quint's tearful departure here seems almost reminiscent of the secret boss fight with him after the completion of V5's final boss.
The Quint bossfight there is nuts, the ending of it is sad and just makes me want to wish i didn't win that fight, but at the same time it's completion so what do i know?
I'd recommend you give Mega Man & Bass another shot. You said you disliked it in this video, but it's actually one of my favorites.
Oh my gosh just found your channel through G to the next level. This is outstanding content. I am very impressed with the quality for a small channel and believe that you are going to go far! Subscribed. and I had never heard of this mega man game. Seeing quint as part of this story get's me excited that perhaps he may be in another game down the line.

This game came out on my exact birthdate.
Just a small correction, on megaman world, you can only travel to the future and back to the present (which was why wily didn't go to a point in time megaman still didn't exist)
After wily traveled to the future where he had reformed, he kidnapped the megaman from that time with future wily's help and returned to the future, but everything that happened on that future won't happen in the main timeline (yes, this is an alternative timeline.)
In short, On that future, X and Zero were nerfed even considered to be built because the world was in peace after wily reformed himself. and after what wily did by traveling to that future, that future no longer became true (aka it was separated from the main timeline)

Rockman & Forte: Mirai Kara no Chousensha was never officially called Rockman & Forte 2, it’s a fan-name lol. I just feel the need to call that out because it was on the wiki for a long time and it is not correct.
Very true, and I should have clarified that. But, I think it's a very fitting fan name, particularly in regards to how the game itself plays out
I really do think this game should have a proper remake into MM&B2. The story is actually quite good and helps further the timeline with Quint.
P.S.: I can proudly(?) say I have actually beaten this game. For whatever reason my save file vanished though. :(
The good folks over at Reploid Revo did a video about this whole Quint situation. It's possible that this is a self correcting paradox.
Since Light, Mega Man, Roll, and everyone else knows that Wily will try to come to the future in 30 some odd years, it may create a new timeline where they stop past Wily from reprogramming Mega Man into Quint. This also would create a timeline where Mega Man's mission officially ends within his operational time and Dr. Light's lifetime.
Theres an even more obscure game for the Wonder Swan Color that takes the Mega Man Battle Network into series into a platformer for only other time than the Wii one

That's incredibly convoluted
You get more of the story wrong:
1) Wily could travel in the past because the time skimmer can ONLY travel to the future
2) Megaman Shadow isn't Quint he's a prototype of him
one question. how does one go about making a prototype of reprogramming of an already existing robot. or was quint designed and then he decided to use megaman as a bass (pun intended) for quint? really in that since quint was never originally megaman but just a robot shoved into megamans body. its kinda like the broom paradox. if you replace parts of the broom is it even the same broom, and if not could you use the old parts to reassemble a new broom but then which broom is the broom you started with.
@@iananderson4754 well Wily tried to replicate Megaman with Megaman Shadow but he failed so he tried again but now he reprogrammed Megaman

Again with this „Mega Man and Bass‘s levels was built with Bass in mind“ bullshit. I guess we cannot expect anything else at this point.

It's called challenge, MM&B is completely doable with Megaman, no problem. When people lack skill they like to lash out and attack the game instead of realizing their own inadequacies.

This game could use a good remake but with additional stuff like Dr. Wily fight at the end, rematch with the robot masters. Compass Man would have a weapon called Compass Shot which shoots in multi directions. Dangan Man would be renamed Bullet man, Aircon man would be renamed A/C man and Konro Man would be renamed Stove Man. As for Megaman Shadow, he could use a second form in the remake, weakness Compass shot.
The reason wily doesn’t stop megaman from being made is because the Time Skipper can’t go to the past. Only the future and then back to the present.
Rockman Shadow is from a time in the future where the world is at peace. That's why the robot masters have such household designs. Also I think Rockman Shadow isn't actually Quint. He was built to be a Mega Man by Wily but was discarded by why in favor for Quint which is why he want to prove himself by fighting Mega Man or Bass.
The emulator I used I was able to rotate the screen for the vertical level
I thought mega man and bass was really good, actually. Not as good as other titles such as 2 or 9, but it was a decent 7.5/10 to me. The only bs moment to me was the last 2 king stages.
Well.. if you compared MM&B to any other classic Mega Man game, it's pretty much identical, Bass just breaks the levels because of his movement abilities, and since most of the popular youtubers play as bass, it gives the impression of poor level design when you play them as intended with Mega Man instead if you were to play as Mega Man first, THEN play as Bass.
I learned from a megaman lore video that Dr. Willy is unable to go into the past with the machine he stole. Dunno why he go back to his timeline tho.

Megaman and Bass is a great game. Something actually new looking compared to the rinse and repeat 8 bit crap. Need to move forward with the graphics, not backwards....

Nice video, but as others have said please stop with bashing the original Mega Man and Bass. It's a fantastic game, expertly crafted.
Megaman and Bass both require different strategies and approaches, making for even more varied gameplay than Megaman X4. I've always felt that those who label the game as trash are truly upset with their own lack of skill and are too immature to admit, accept, and ultimately grow to achieve what they couldn't before.
I still stand by that I think the original MM&B is a trainwreck. You're welcome to feel differently, but this is my opinion on that title and I stand by it

@@train4292 yeah there is such a thing as too much difficulty. and then there's just outright unfair spots where you take leaps of faith into a bed of spikes. but I only played the gba version so maybe the screen crunch is just a massive detriment to the gameplay
What makes this game bad is the terrible controls. You seriously need to pixel perfect your dash move to not get killed by all those beginners 1 hit kill traps early on, for example. It doesn't help that very little feels very Mega Man. It's Mega Man in the most broad of strokes.
Also I've never used a Wonderswan emulator without a switch screen direction button.
Just use retroarch.

The MegaMan and bass hate is insane😭 I’m playing the game now with only 1 robot master left. Plus as MegaMan and on the gba version (since I had it as a kid) and it’s not that bad, less hard then I remember
