I'd say it's fine when a game that has a different tone defines itself as a new sub-series. My expectations for a story in the classic series is way different than my expectations for the X series, for example. Sure, they take place in the same universe, but the lens you view the world from differs. Similarly, I'm fine with darker takes on the classic series like Ariga's Megamix series since they're their own thing separated from the main games.
Black Sheep of the classic Mega Man series is an understatement. I think this game would've ended up better received if the gameplay was handled a lot better, because at the same time I like how they went for more bold storytelling. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates the Archie Mega Man comics.

This was great, James! It's so very bizarre but I fully understand why Inafune and Capcom kinda push it to the side of all the Mega Man lore. To the far, far, far side... and I agree, the Archie comic was fantastic! Such a shame that they canceled it.
Yo, this sounds absolutely amazing. This should be remake as a standard MM game and be fleshed out so it's all like the disk 1-content. Beating a megaman stage and not having to do the fight because of talk no jutsu or because you took an alternate path that sneaks around the boss or you did a clever order of events sounds like it's truly next level for the series(With, ya know, the obvious downside to avoiding bosses being that you power up less).

Gotta say when I heard about this game I was expecting it to be majoras mask levels of dark. I'm a little disappointed it's not as dark as I thought. But I have to remember I looking at this at my current age, If I was seeing this some 23 years ago it would have scared the crap outta me with its darker tones. That said I can see why (and I agree with why) it wasn't released to the west.
I love the hand drawn anime artstyle in the megaman 8 fmv cutscenes, but the animation in this game just looks awkward. The characters just look off and the animation just feels less dynamic. I feel like we are not looking at the same games here with your comment on it.
...What if they made a remake/a remastered version that they doubled checked and make sure that their is no errors in it. I like the idea of a super computer that is supposed to represent the dark side of the moon, later on became a super computer that can make adjustments/enhancements to its own creations or make robot's program and designs come to life out of thin air. Without Ra Moon I couldn't make up what should happen in my episode 5 (Its in development right now but I made a opposite version of Ra Moon. He's name is Ra Sun). No I am not trying to self promote and I bet this guy's content is WAY better than mine. P.S. Ra Moon I think created the Stardroids
Wait RA MOON? Is this thing the basis for Ra Mu in MegaMan Starforce 2? Ra Mu gave humanity the gift of EM Wave Technology, but then war broke out between the tribes of Mu. Its very similar.

So, the question at 24:34 can be explained. Mega Man 4's robot masters were built by Dr.Cossack, not Dr.Wily, and Ra Moon re-created Wily's robots based off of his computer data. Beat the Bird does first appear in MM5 but was created and gifted to Mega Man by Dr.Cossack. For me the worst Rockman game is Rockman 6. I never liked it that I cant jump after performing a slide. I played Super Adventure Rockman during the early 2000's and this is very underrated and unappreciated game. I like almost everything about it: the FMV, the decisions you can do in the game that affects the story, and also the battle system where it becomes like a light gun shooter although I think having a light gun support would had made the game easier to navigate during fights.
I actually love the idea of Ra Moon returning in Mega Man lore. He has an amazing backstory and his powers are unique and threatening for a Mega Man game

Also gogdamn do I miss the Archie comic's. I was excited for the Stardroid saga- I wasn't aware until like 2-ish years back on what actually happened. I just thought it was still in hiatus and went to wait for news of the Manga adaptation- that also fell off before the Stardroids... -Curse you Penders not only did you kill Sonic but you took Megaman down with him.-
I think only the wily bots from 2 and 3 are present because the masters in Megaman 4 weren't built by wily, they were built by doctor Cossack. So, because of that, Wily wouldn't have the data for Ra Moon to copy. I'd say it probably takes place between 4 and 5, sometime after beat is made but before the megaman 5 robots were constructed by wily.
Oh, I remember seeing a compilation of all the cutscenes in the game on UA-cam with Spanish subtitles. I'm honestly impressed someone got to translate it to my language.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'm surprised there hasn't been much other coverage of this on UA-cam. I may go back sometime and do a similar look at the trilogy of Mega Man DOS games and the Wonderswan game!

Honestly, I've always really loved Super Adventure Rockman, but that's mostly just because the Archie Mega Man comic's adaptation of it is really good and I think Ra Moon is a cool villain
This game also has the only incredible music i ever seen, Brand New way, as you can see megaman games doesn't have music like this, but you have to listen now on UA-cam, it's beautiful!
Stuff like this is what i dont like about the franchises and why it has no future. Sure they could still just make the same formula over and over again until its just boring. But this was a change of pase. Sure the "tellstory" gameplay may not be appealing to everyone, but disown a game because its "Too dark"? I simply don't get it, i know megaman classic is not supposed to be "Serious" like megaman X does, but i think thats what they're wrong, sure the people dying in the helicopters was a bit too much, but that was pretty much it, the action is felt here, there is no cheesy stuff. It almost feels like im watching Astro Boy, that series featured a lot of robot violence and it was fine. Why not here? Its a shame, this was definetely a fun watch, and even tho the "Gameplay" sucks a lot, i think it could have been the start of an *Actual* Megaman animated series loyal to the original designs with an interesting story about Robotic Morals. Is that too much to ask?
my guess is they only included masters from 1-3 because the only wanted to make the game a certain length and including more robot masters would make it longer.
I've been wondering what anime studio did the actual animation for this game 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔. Like I know that Xebec did the cutscenes for Megaman 8 X3 and X4 and Maverick Hunter X including the OVA included with it. They also did Megaman NT Warrior/Rockman EXE Anime. I'm wondering if Xebec also did this uncredited thinking that people would assume that since Capcom had them to produce the cutscenes in Megaman 8 X3 X4. I personally can't tell if Xebec did this and I'm pretty good at being able to tell by the animation style who did the animation.
25:20, ah yes, I agree. 26:58, was gonna bring that up. 28:51, pffft. Oh pls. Megaman 10 had a virus story and that was pretty intense. >_> 30:20, shout-outs! 31:10, aw yeah.
I love this silly game. Came across it while in college, watched playthroughs of it, and drew oekaki art from it. Shame that Inafune disowned this game
Yeah its not great but I wouldn't say its so bad that Inafune-san had to disown the whole damn thing. I think if the gameplay was more classic Megaman jump-and-shoot action instead of the first person shoot-outs that it would be more fun to play, especially with the alternate pathways; maybe they could even flesh out the ability to talk Robot Masters out of fighting for a different true ending. I don't think the game is too dark either, kids can handle a lot of heavy shit in games; Megaman X4 had the shit with Sky Lagoon where a bunch of innocents also die, and X4 made it one of the first things that happens in the game! I also learned about this game via the Megaman Comics, and as a sidenote I'm still mad about how that Archie shat the bed with that comic and the games it never got to adapt. Like did we really need a whole ass Sonic crossover? They could have at least dedicated that time to properly adapting Megaman 4. It's been like 5-6 years and I'm still angry about the comics, _we could have had so much_

It's not darker than the X series, it's just out of place for the classic series.

I kinda wanted to skip the sponsor message, but then I realised what the website he was being sponsored by actually is. Screw Ebay, this is my go-to website, now. Thank you for introducing us to it.
I'm a girl lol. But thank you tons!
Honestly, I've always really loved Super Adventure Rockman, but that's mostly just because the Archie Mega Man comic's adaptation of it is really good and I think Ra Moon is a cool villain
Thanks for making this video! I didn't even know this existed!
You're welcome dude! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
This game also has the only incredible music i ever seen, Brand New way, as you can see megaman games doesn't have music like this, but you have to listen now on UA-cam, it's beautiful!
Somewhere, the full res version of that animation must still exist! And the painted Cels
22:59 it's no wonder why keiji inafune publicly and famously disowned this game the endings are disturbing and dark as hell
I'm from the Philippines who didn't understand a lick of Japanese yet I know and played this game. I even remember Wily's laugh.
16:45 he actually still tries to kill you
Sounds like it could have been pretty awesome
It certainly had a lot of potential!
Hey, I like the content of your channel. You got yourself a new subscriber! Thank you for all your hard work! 😁👍
Thank you so much!
I wouldn't exactly call it "disowned" given how the Megaman Robot Master Field Guide outright acknowledges this game.
You know what's even weirder? The fact that this game's story was adapted in Archie's Megaman comic run.
my guess is they only included masters from 1-3 because the only wanted to make the game a certain length and including more robot masters would make it longer.
Megaman 8 voice acting:
*(Megaman screaming for a minute... like, who wanted to know he could win a screaming competition, anyway?)*
I completely forgot this game existed. Thanks for the review.
This game is a cool thing to see a playthrough on UA-cam and not that much more
They should at least dub the anime scenes. If not translate it and re-release
Or remake it with a better fps system
I need a English dub for super adventure of rock man and where is mega man 4 5 6 7 8 robot masters dr Cossack and rest
At least the events of this game was adapted in the Archie comics so I guess SAR was completely not forgotten
i wish this game came out in america
That could be very interesting if it had!
It would've been incredibly expensive, probably rarer than Tron Bonne.
I own that and quite expensive during the time I purchased it, never finished it the game is just way too hard.
I’ve actually watched some of the American cartoon on UA-cam lol. It’s campy but fun
It is! It's also rather nostalgic for me. I still have nightmares about buff Protoman sometimes
Stuff We Play hahaha
25:20, ah yes, I agree.
26:58, was gonna bring that up.
28:51, pffft. Oh pls. Megaman 10 had a virus story and that was pretty intense. >_>
30:20, shout-outs!
31:10, aw yeah.
Deltarune Spamton Eyes at 7:56
I love this silly game. Came across it while in college, watched playthroughs of it, and drew oekaki art from it. Shame that Inafune disowned this game
Megaman is in Dragalia lost!
I saw! I might finally try it out now haha
ppl only remember this cus of the archie comics
0:46 I dunno, Inafune. You may feel regret, but I'd say it's. Hmm, how'd it go? Ah yes; *better than nothing.*
I think you oversold the obscurity of this one in the intro tbh my man, it has a lot more exposure thanks to Archie
Great video this game has always been interesting to me the Archie comics story adapting it was actually pretty good
Great video, this is super interesting and I love dark stuff in mega man !
You could get his shield in mega Man 7
Wow this is dark holy shit.
It's been like 5-6 years and I'm still angry about the comics, _we could have had so much_
I get the feeling Ra Moon wasn't very good on the planning, really...
Virus on Robots? What about humans, which presented on some cutscenes?
Yeah, I don't believe I would have liked this game if I played it.
