The last Avensis series is a bullet proof car. Boring perhaps, but a very well executed car. Better than the German cr@p

Hi. I have had my Avensis 2009 2.0 diesel for a while now. It has a lot if km and is so reliable. I do not complain over the the interior because the leather models feel more expensive. If you are in to a marked of a Avensis you have to go for the manual. The auto is no go and the manual is so much more fun to drive. I do not like the passat becuase every used model i looked at for sale seem to burn oil or having a expensive issue. The gearbox in the passat is also a bad thing. Toyota puts a expensive and good engine in their cars while VW puts small and cheap made engines but more expensive intorier in their cars. The Avensis 2,2 D-CAT 177 hp is faster than the passat 2.0 diesel. I prefer the Avensis over every other same sized cars.

Reliable, low fuel consumption and classy. Would not trade it for mondeo or insignia.

I've had two Avensis, currently on the market for a 3rd. I don't understand the thing about the Mondeo's, they depreciate like crazy, and not many out there with the type of miles you can get from an Avensis. Passat, everything after 1.9Td seems to be a headache. Avensis will keep on keeping on. It's a good motor, not very comfortable, not fast, not great handling, does everything just enough but very good on the wallet.

    • @andreborges2106

@Uncle Gilbert not compared to a Mercedes or a Lexus. Meaning, it's comfortable for a cheaper vehicle range, but still not a proper comfortable car.

I love the mondeo, it's more luxurious and they are dort cheap even with a titanium spec, but the toyota is more reliable

I used Skoda Octavia 2012 1.6tdi for 4 years. I drove 105000 KMS and I bought when it was 205000kms. What a painful experience it was. Everything single part has been broken. Since then I am afraid of buying a used diesel car. However, should I buy a diesel Avensis as Toyota is known for reliability.

I was looking for a family car and will be making ocasionally trips. Saw a 2013 restyling 270000km 2.0 petrol with multidrive transmission and a price of 5500 euros. What do you think about it?

      Have a toyota avensis with 243000km 2.0 petrol (2009)
Had for 3 mpnths. only problem i had with it was some parking brake sensor but fixed for 150$ but not any issues with it always starts even in cold temperatures like -20 celcius. These japanese cars can run forever.

a toyota T27, avensis III, D4D, 1998 diesel, 2009 is a sluggish car, its acceleration is slow... this car needs a DPF replacement after 180000km, can have problems with dashboard electronics also : for example -AC control interface. That’s the issues i had to deal with... bear in mind i have 250000km now.. i’ve bought it as second hand- 160000km on board.

Can anyone tell me the 2009 avensis D4D.the newer model. Anyone ever have one are they reliable.
I heard they can give DPF problems.
The DPF filter was not put into the Toyotas till 2010 onwards from what I read online.
Can anyone confirm if there is one in the 2009 models. Some people say the injectors fail in the diesel and if that happens it's a very expensive fix.
So any info from previous long term owners would be great should a person stay away from the d4d and stick with the petrol model.
    In your opinion.
I have owned the old petrol model the car was very reliable.
Can any long term previous owners shad some light on the 2009 model onwards 2.0 d4d reliability.
Are they a good reliable car or should a person stay clear of them and stick to the petrol model thanks guys.

I have a 2009 T27 2.0 D4D - T4. Fully equipped with leather and all the extras. Exactly the same as the navy blue one shown in this video.
I have it 4 years, bought second hand with 50k on it. Had the door hinges done under toyota warranty due to they failing ( Design Fault) Replaced Alternator. Other than normal servicing absolutely very reliable. Yes you are correct in that the T27 was introduced in 09 but the DPF was not added until 2010. Mine does not have one so one less problem. Electronic Parking Brake can fail and its an expensive fix but no more so than any other car, as they all seem to have them now. They are getting up there age wise and If contemplating buying one I would avoid the mondeo and passat, as they dont age well and turn out being money pits. Funny how no one mentions that. Look around and its mostly Japanese cars that are still driving after the 10+ year mark. So in summary, I think they are great, so best of luck whatever you decide to do.

There are a lot more things to go wrong with a diesel, with any car brand. Injectors, Turbo, Dual Mass Flywheel, DPF. They don't heat up very fast in the winter either and are noisier. I think it would depend if you do a lot of long journeys and your milage, if you do a lot of miles and long motorway trips a diesel might pay for itself but it would take a lot of miles to do so.

I have a 2010 d4d Avensis. My mechanic told me it didn't have a DPF. He said it seemed to have two cats like his Honda accord. Mine is now on 120,000 miles and I think it's still on it's first clutch. I've had it since about 60,000 miles 🤔
I recently had a reoccurring injector fault. I'd always used cheap Asda fuel so my mechanic said it might be worth trying a cleaner before buying a new injector. On two fills I switched to premium fuel and added the injector cleaner and went for long motorway runs. A few thousand miles later and no more issues.

Horrible car. Owned one for 6 month and hated it more than any car I have ever driven. It is POS. Made for people, shorter than 1.50m, with no spine, damaged hearing and blind. Engine just goes HHUUUUUUUUU whatever gear or load you have. Springs and dampers are so stiff that you can feel a grain of sand on flat tarmac. Sound proofing is nonexicstent.
