when your home town becomes unrconisable and looks like a foreign country it just doesnt feel the same
I was around yes luton is one of the worst town ever compare to London and Birmingham
Those who voted Luton no 1 have obviously never been to Slough, where I live. I think the only "named" shops are Boots and Primark. 3 charity shops, 2 of which are the-end-of-the-line shops where anything that hasn't sold anywhere else goes to die.
I saw a video about Slough recently.. lots of problems in the town it would seem.
worst place to live in Luton lol never been to Stoke on trent lol
Well I am in Wolverhampton but am from Stotfold originally so I know all the places you go to - Unfortunately I think this is pretty much the case across the country - we all love buying stuff online but this is what it's doing to the Town Centers
Yes, convenience is king nowadays
Used to be Woolworths where Lidl is now, moved in from George St, Only if I must go into town, last time I got a ticket for entering a bus lane, which was never there before
I remember getting pick n mix there back in the 90s
I was born in Luton too (1980) then moved to mid beds, much nicer 🙂. Then moved to outskirts of Bedford which isn’t great nowadays, Bedford used to be nice in the 90s, when I went to school there, but it’s gone downhill. A few years ago we went charity shopping in Luton for a bit of fun and a rat ran across the road, near the Moat House, in broad daylight, and I said never again 😆. The better charity shops in Luton, are in the housing estates, not the town centre ones. I think, you said the other day your middle name was Amber, in the village I grew up in (Maulden) there was a younger girl than me, called Amber, and I’m now wondering if it was you! Could it have been?
Oh gosh, rats are never a good sign when you see them out and about. The good old Moat House carvery. We used to meet each other there sometimes on a Wednesday eve before we lived together 🤣 Yes that’s my middle name, doubt it was me. I grew up in Silsoe. My parents live in Maulden now though. Where did you live? We do whizz around the other chazzas in Luton sometimes but we don’t tend to go over that way much these days now we’re over near Biggleswade.
We lived opposite the Rec, in a little close called Brightmans Drive. I love Maulden and would move back if I could afford a house there. How funny that you know the moat house, my brother was assistant manager at the moat house, for a very short while in the early 2000s. I went to Girl Guides in Silsoe but it was a bit of a rubbish troop 😄
I live in outer NW London - I don't go to Luton (there is a Keech discount shop out of town near a trading estate which can be ok but I haven't been for ages) and it always surprises me that Harpenden is only a few miles away and that is super posh. Charity shops in large town centres and tourist towns tend to be pretty awful.
I (Simon) grew up in Harpenden and I’m ashamed to admit that we always used to say that the worst thing about Harpenden was Luton 🤣😬
Stopsley , is somewhat better, lived here since, 1958, a babe in arms back then. can film in Stopsley Keech.
You might know my mum! She’s from Stopsley and went to high school there.
@@Married2Reselling My mum had the corner shop on Wigmore / Sowerby, Gizi General Store Closed since 1995, I went to SHS 68-72
My mum had left by then. 🙂
Hanley in stoke on Trent . A ghost of its former self
Such a shame
omg it really is its shockin, i miss all the old chazzas too
Sadly all town centres are dieing......ppl just shop online so all the little 'mosey around on ya dinner break' or sat afternoon, are just gone now. or moved into a big indoor shopping centre, and the town shops are left empty, and thats everywhere. I grew up in Cornwall, its all the town down here, and Plymouth is the same. Just way it is nw.
Thanks 4 the look around guys, I pictured Luton to be much more vibrante, and woulda thought alot more there, but ovz not.xx
but why is Luton the worst town in England?
You’d have to ask the people that voted but with good transport links, international airport, university. In paper, it shouldn’t be bad enough to make #1
Luton was not as bad as I imagined. A lot of towns look like that these days sadly. It’s kind of Swindon level grim. I I think there are many far worse places. I went to Banbury recently, which I assumed was going to be a pretty wealthy market town, and I was surprised how horrible it was
Wow wouldn’t expect that of Banbury, used to travel around there for a work 20 years ago, used to seem nice
I live in Winchester which has got nice countryside around so I do realise I am lucky to live here. It has often been voted to be one of the best places to live but charity shops are really expensive - I hardly ever go into them plus frequent traffic jams where the city wasn't designed for vehicles. Car parking really expensive, lots of rubbish on the streets and people sleeping rough. Then there are the tourists which also clog up the pavements. I think every town has its issues these days unfortunately.
Wheeyyy my home town, it’s not as bad as people make it out to be you just need to know the places to stay away from 😂
We always say that you can get a completely different impression of a place depending which way you drive in
My parents married at St Mary's church in 1953 .. beautiful church. I never go in to town and there's been so many changes. I hate the place it makes me anxious. It was great to see it on your video though . Not the town it used to be by any means. Ill carry on shopping on line. Thanks for filming it. Xx
Oh wow! Thanks for watching 🤗
A lot of places in the UK have change a lot over the years, and not for the better. Last year I took a trip back to Oxfordshire where I grew-up and worked for many years. Didcot, Wallingford, Temple Cowley, Benson, Abingdon, Oxford City... Hopefully at 56 years old I will be gone before the Government totally trash Norfolk too.
I love norfolk and i agree, it feels like old england their thats why i love it so much
Oh yeah please can Norfolk not change, we go over there quite a bit
My birthplace too lived there for the first 21 years of my life
Oh what year? 1982 here
i was banned from my local Keech because i am a reseller walked in one day and was told i was no longer welcome used to spend a lot in there every week their loss
Oh no!
You'd have thought they would be grateful for every penny especially with the cost of living as it is.
The first indoor shopping centre in the UK was the Bull Ring in Birmingham
Ah sorry it was Europe’s biggest when built, not the uks first 🤦🏻♂️
Its a weird weird vibe out their now esp in citys, Im from leicester, used to work at natwest in the city, but industry has took a nose dive, their were banks now thats all outsourced! same as leicester was known for its factory's in hosiery and knitwear thats all gone, doc martins was in my village they made them their thats gone, all their is is eateries, no proper jobs, I feel you i watch all of the you tubers like wendal et el who go to all the dive places and document the struggles of the u.k and i agree with them. phase eight i get that on the pound rail! but thats in the shires in the town they just price up i dont even look. great video
Love Wendell’s vids!
