When an existential threat comes for humanity we band together. We have a a golden age, we fall into arguing and war until the next big existential threat comes along. I have a feeling that a space faring humanity is going to factionalize but when push comes to shove we put aside our differences and bully the enemy

Maybe not. Remember, the Rakheti had been on Earth for some time, had granted us knowledge, and become good friends. The sense that we owed them and wanted to return the favor (aka reciprocity) is a very strong motivator that exists across human cultures, and could have pushed humanity to protect them.

I like the message. The other galactic races fall over for them, since that is the 'right' and 'logical' choice of the moment. None of them think ahead to what it will be like when things like this happen, or that they will keep going.
And that IS the point. The Triple Alliance was far away, their enemies weren't a threat. But they came anyway, since they weren't satisfied with merely 'winning'. They had to 'crush' these people, like all bullies.
Humanity's history is full of people like this, and we look farther ahead than a single battle, or even a single war. We look ahead to the next war, and the one after, and know that somewhere, you have to draw the line, and with people like this, who have demonstrated they will never be 'bought off', it's time to make them pay for ever parsec.

A very wise old man said about fending off blustering fools, speak softly and carry a big stick. I'd say this tale is definitively all about the Jaumon alliance getting the stick alright.
You know we are seeing the lesson of giving the bully what they want play on the world right now. The bully wanted more and more each time, eventually Ukraine said no, before they were with nothing left to fight with, but they had given away enough they needed help. The bully is now showing the cracks in his eggshell.
Grow strong to fend off the bullies, but never become one in turn. For if you do your fate is sealed.

THAT is magnificent, it was decades ago when I and my peers learned, grew, expressed ideas because teachers in schools actually shared, inspired principled ideas, not indoctrination of ideologies as today's Generation Ameri-CAN'T abides to: Marxism, Socialism, Communism, Anarchism, poisonous levels of unhealthy Cynicism.
We were encouraged to write to express ideas as language, as early humans did with pictographs, hieroglyphs. Science fiction wasn't an abstract of science of the time of Asimov, Bradbury, Clark, Ellison, it was truth of imagination made prophetic.
Metaphor is an improperly & over used term, but the author(s) of this tale uses it well & truthfully. Yes, there are plenty who'll be merely, momentarily entertained or worse annoyed because of the underlying truth told of mankind they don't "like", blinded by poisonous ideology taught them as curriculum, CRT, gender-identity, godless & soulless ideologies of hate.
These would be those indoctrinated men & women-childs who loath others while screeching "you Generation Ameri-CANs & America ain't so great". What fools, this great tale & its author(s) prove Generation Ameri-CAN'T is also Generation HATE and how utterly WRONG they are...

Oh, really? You actually want to pick a fight with someone who knows how to fight? You asked for it, pal.

These reddit stories are always Ok-ish. But there's just always so much disconnect from actual reality in them to me. It's like it's far better as a premise than an actual story.

Disconnect from reality? Bro, it’s a bloody story. A STORY!!

@@ng8tvinfluence78 So a story should have no connection to reality?

@@crazypantz3492 ??? It’s a story, it can do as it pleases. You might enjoy stories where humans need to be taught some type of lesson (usually an environmental one) but I’m tired of them. The best stories do away with that garbage.

It's slight amount of work, but why not rewrite the obviously mistranslated subtitles. Rest bit is clearly respite, sickness is obviously Cygnus. It's tiny amount of work for infinitely better final product. It's stuff like this that makes it really appear as if this channel is just a cash grab for other people's stories.

The narrator is not a pleasant voice, used to much for factual narration.
