Seed is good. Frankly, I loved how the cast are basically representations of the entire war. Sai=natural's jealousy of coordinators. Flay=hatred borne out of prejudice. Miriallia=hatred born out of loss of loved one to an opposition. Kira = how war corrupts the innocent. His experience is very visceral from the way he cried after realising he aimed for the kill on the Ginn to finishing off a bucue without remorse later, and his burning hatred against athrun because of tolle'sand nicol's death blinding them to the fact that they were once best friends. Athrun and patrick=zaft's original hatred against the natural (his mom died to natural's atrocities) and how they are resolved. Dearka and yzak= perceived supremacy of their own faction. Nicol='he was 15, and he loved the piano'
The entire cast is aimed at allowing teenagers to relate their personal struggles with the struggles of the cosmic era war--hatred, and we see how both crazed factions becoming more and more radical. Rau is the embodiment of the hate.
The story falls flat after Kira got the freedom, because the message becomes more 'told' than 'shown'. Lacus' repeated preaching makes sense, but beyond that, beyond the war, no attempt at reconciliation was seen by either party. The Junius treaty is just a compromise. So all lacus and Kira did only amounted to might is right. Granted, no amount of lacus preaching could stop the violence at that time, but this approach will have its consequences in seed destiny, but sadly, it is never explored.
Seed has one of the better gundam designs of the franchise. And the naming of these suits are superb. You know instantly what the suit does or what the characters piloting them represents. Kira in strike Vs Kira in freedom makes the contrast even more palpable--kira who was once manipulated onto striking down opponents and experiencing that hatred is finally liberated from it. Athrun who pilots the aegis to protect his people and Kira on the battlefield (which he did at first) became vindictive. His next suit is the justice, athrun realises the extremism of his father and decided to do what is right, betraying his faction for the good of mankind.
Rau's providence is coloured black-- it is the dark god. The embodiment of hatred that plagues the entirety of cosmic era.
Earth alliance's suits became more violent. Instead of suits with names alluding to their combat roles, they got this: calamity, forbidden, and raider, as if to symbolise their increasing hatred. The pilots of these new suits are the tragic biological CPUs. Showing that the ea will stop at nothing to destroy their opposition.
Destiny has everything going for it. But the writers decided to give shin the boot instead. We could have gotten a compelling character arc. The might is right theme is explored in shinn with his impulse as he battled Kira and almost killed athrun and meyrin when he has the power to do it. Remember, shinn wanted power to protect, but he used it to kill people who have no intention to kill him (athrun, Kira(before he realised he had to get the core splendour to stand a chance) and meyrin)
Durandal wanted to use his power to kill what makes humans human because he fears that hatred in humanity will continue to cause war.
If shinn's character arc were to be explored in full, he serves as the perfect foil against durandal. And this might is right thing can be resolved. At one point durandal basically had the support of the entire earth and space colonies except orb after he exposed blue cosmos. He could have ended the war there and that and proceed to usher peace. He knows that orb doesn't want war, especially with cagali being restored to power, but no, he wanted war because he feared the cycle of hatred, therefore he wanted the universal implementation of the destiny plan.
Shinn would be the one choosing whether or not to go against this. Not Kira. Kira, as a character has been explored he should've died along with the entire archangel crew, athrun, and meyrin. Destiny has always been about shinn. It should have been, to the end, about shinn. How shinn understood that he abused his power because of hatred, and how he repented for being no different from the forces that took Stella and his family. Then, how he overcame it and realise that there is still goodness in humanity.
Why I criticise Kira's might is right approach as wrong: choosing to kidnap cagali and making it difficult for talks to start. He could have intervened and gathered the moderate factions with cagali. Killing Stella (this is more symbolic) when shinn had the chance to talk her out of it. Ripping off athrun instead of properly listening to him because he believes outright that athrun is wrong. Heh, clyne faction's obvious breach of the Junius treaty with nuclear gundams and mirage colloid doms are hypocritical when cagali criticised zaft of making more gundam suits. Kira needs to know that after stopping the war, he, lacus, and cagali must be the arbiter of peace, and that should be done through 'mutual understanding' not might.
Yes, Kira did not want to kill anyone, but his actions only solidified the 'might is right' theme.

No. The characters and storytelling in SEED were great. Having a war where both sides are in the wrong and everything is in shades of grey was a great idea. It was very politically complicated as well. I liked it in the same way I liked Zeta, but SEED managed to be far less totally dark than Zeta was.
Its one of the more mature treatments of war and politics I've seen.
There were also some really great moments. Like with Badgiruel where she started out as an obey no matter what officer and gradually & finally getting pushed to her moral breaking point where she did a mutiny. There was Cagalli who kept making bad decisions when she was finally in charge. There was the coup in space against the father of Lacus. And there was Rau Le Creuset who was working on the inside of the military to make everything worse.
The only I think I regret is that they didn't do one more series to show Lacus making mistakes and how every leader (including Lacus) has strengths and weaknesses when running things.

SEED is kinda okay, but Destiny butchered anything good it had. Aside from the mecha designs, SEED mecha designs are top notch. Mu is still one of my favorite Gundam characters ever though.
I always wondered how, at least in Japan, Destiny was the most popular Gundam, beating out the original Gundam, the milked-to-hell Unicorn, and the forever-praised Zeta, this is some really good insight on the question.

@@thelinedrive that girl is flay. That toxic relationship drives the story forward. Flay has always been an interesting character to me. Don't get Me wrong though, I don't like flay as a person, but as a tool for storytelling she pretty darn well does her job better than almost every other supporting cast.
Flay has a character arc and is always destabilising the archangel crew's equilibrium. But sadly, she is doomed, perhaps as a form poetic justice.
She is also the lens for us to understand the deep-seated hatred for the coordinators borne by the naturals. And her hatred stem from prejudice, rather than vendetta (mirriallia haw exaemplifies this) or jealousy (sai argyle).
Seed is gundam remade into an entry level show, and it uses its characters as a means for us to connect with the overarching war narrative on a visceral level. Unicorn, turn a, zeta, and the many UC OVAs deals with far more abstract concepts of war, and this loss of depth and the clear, black-white characterisations make the story too simple for any UC fan. But it gets the job done--its entry level, after all. It was the first gundam I watch.
Similarly, Your name is more popular than shinkai's earlier works because it is much simpler to understand--lol, some of the symbolisms are mentioned outright, that's a no-no for me (the scarlet thread, for example). But don't get me wrong, seed is not comparable to your name in terms of writing, it's still inadequate.

Did you do any research regarding early Gundam's demographic for this video? Even since the first MSG aired a huge part of the fanbase was female and they noticed this early on which is one of the reasons why Kamille is a bit girly for example. Hell, characters like Garma and Char had a lot of female fans and from what I've gathered there was a lot of doujin material made by females even on the days of the original run of MSG.
It was probably going to be mostly aimed at male kids to sell them toys during it's first days but if that was the case then that changed pretty quickly.
What Seed did was not being the first one in having a big focus on elements that female audiences enjoy, but having a more melodramatic approach to it's relationships and story telling. I don't wanna sound elitist but it pretty much used the lowest common denominator tropes that attract young female audience which I think it's what separates how it attracted them compared to the previous series.

    • @jebe4563
      @jebe4563 3 роки тому +3

If anything SEED is the only Gundam TV series to not be largely reliant upon heavy handed tropes, and a combination of short attention spans or audiences not thinking things through up to when it came out. It actually took the proper time to develop things, handled issues at a rather sophisticated level, and made characters people. Since then IBO is the only other TV series to raise to the level of being well written.
Large portions of UC fall apart the second you realize Amuro was born in Canada, Lalah in India, and Quess on Earth thus debunking the entire NewType hypothesis. While you can have a false prophet in a series when the false prophet is that blatant and literally no one goes "wait a minute..." when you have things like Char proposing mass bombardment of Earth following said delusion, you have a problem.
The series in UC usually considered the best is Zeta, and if you've watched it all I should need to say is "Reccoa." Along those lines do I need to remind you the Titans pilot Zeon suits because Tomino was afraid the audience might get mixed up on who the "bad guys" were, and beyond the series equivalent of Finn they were cartoon evil for the sake of being cartoon evil. Indeed Zeta is so deeply flawed 0083 exists specifically to make setting modifications just to fix serious setting related problems Zeta otherwise has.
Wing's characterization is such an utter joke they had to literally invoke "the little girl and her dog" in EW to try to pretend Heero wasn't a one note sheet of paper pretending to be a person, and its Absolute Pacifism thesis is so flawed and oversold it repeatedly debunks it in the process of trying to sell it. Plus has blatantly obvious narrative coherency problems like the Preventers just hiring the guy who wanted to literally make Earth uninhabitable "for peace" the last time anyone saw him and giving him the keys to one of the last high performance MS they knew existed, no questions asked... Friendly reminder if the Mariemaia group had waited an additional week they and Zechs would literally be the only one with MS, per the Narrator conceit at the end of EW.

Every Gundam series has a different premise but most are about war and it’s horrors. You can hate SEED and SEED Destiny if you want, but to me... The Cosmic Era... Is my favorite timeline... I love... (still on present tense) the characters (ALL OF THE MAIN ONES), the more simple style of Gundam story telling, ZGMF-X20A STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM, the romance side of the series, and the SOUNDTRACK!!! The Freakin' Soundtrack... I really don't know how they did it... But damn, the OPs, the EDs, the BGMs, the insert songs... Most of the Gundam songs on my phone came from SEED and SEED Destiny... So yeah, I love the series... The story is flawed, and the characters, and so many more, BUT!!! THE TIMING... The timing was just... Perfect!!! I accept the hate...

I'm sorry, but I really can't agree with almost everything you've said here. For one thing, the bias in this analysis is overwhelming. Now, you do make good points about things like the way the interpersonal drama of the characters draws heavily from OTT K-Drama, but a great deal of the conclusions you come to are just... bizarre.
Let's begin with your assertion that 'the man can only change and improve thanks to the influence of that one special girl in his life'. How did you come to this conclusion? SEED has a pretty well-defined and solid character arc for both of its main characters; Kira and Arthrun. Yes, they do receive considerable character development from their interactions with Lacus and Cagali, but this is in _tandem_ with the very extensive character development they receive from other sources. Kira in particular is arguably more influenced by the likes of Mu La Flaga, Rau and Arthrun. Lacus doesn't even have that large of a physical presence during SEED itself; she shows up once during the space arc for her initial bonding with Kira, and then doesn't see him again until over halfway through the series. Their relationship is surprisingly low-key, and her influence mostly serves to push him over the edge of decisions he was very much in the process of making already. To make this assertion is to neuter the story of much of its nuance and intricacy.
The next assertion I have to take issue with is this; 'SEED [...] follows a basic mainstream narrative, by simplifying the story to its basic elements and nullifying the complex themes and subject matter, you get an easily digestible series capable of reaching a wide audience, especially children.'
At this point, I have to sincerely ask; did you watch the same show that everyone else did? SEED is renowned for having a complex plot that extensively deconstructs the concept of a generic good versus evil narrative, arguably _more so_ than the UC era ever managed. Throughout the entire early portions of the show, the central character dynamic is Kira fighting for a side that is actively seeking to destroy his own people. The writer takes great pains to show how both sides are morally grey, and that a victory by either side would mean the virtual extinction or subjugation of the other. In the original MSG, Zeon are depicted as consistently evil throughout, and the show never comments on what will happen to the colonies after the Earth Federation has conquered them again. The series was also noted for never shying away from showing the true horrors of war, as well as the racial tensions that exist between the Naturals and the Coordinators. I must also take issue with your definition of the show as 'easily digestible'. Rather than debate this, I'm just going to include a list of scenes that are presented without censorship during the course of the animation.
    1) The destruction of a colony by nuclear weapons, and the hundreds of civilians that are either vaporized or suffer from explosive decompression as the hull is ruptured.
    2) A shuttle full of civilians exploding from a beam rifle shot, as shown from the interior in slow motion.
    3) A laboratory full of dead children, complete with tanks of decaying fetuses.
    4) Images of said children being experimented on and killing each other in trials to produce super-soldiers.
    5) Multiple sequences of people being cooked from the inside out by microwave radiation, then bursting like blisters.
    6) A character being violently decapitated by the blunt edge of a shield thrown through the cockpit of the Skygrasper he is inside at the time.
    7) A main villain being disintegrated by direct exposure to a beam saber, in slow motion.
    8) The complete destruction of a major city by an out-of-control super-weapon, with many shots of civilians being vaporized by energy weapons, crushed by debris, or torn apart by explosions.
    9) Surrendering soldiers being executed by mobile suit grade projectile fire, blowing them to pieces.
    10) Shinn witnessing the death of his entire family, complete with a lingering shot of his little sister's severed, bleeding arm lying mere feet from him.
    11) Lone Coordinators being violently lynched by hate mobs.
And this list goes on. And on. And on. I actually missed out a fair few that sprung to mind, simply because I couldn't think of ways to easily summarize them.
I would also dispute your argument that the heroes and villains of SEED are binary in nature. Again; the show takes great pains to show how both sides go from one extreme to another, being manipulated into increasingly greater acts of violence and retaliation until neither one can see any solution but genocide. The main villain, Rau Le Crueset, has a rather tragic backstory and spent most of his childhood as the plaything of a megalomaniac who denied him even the most basic form of self-identity. He is also a flawed clone, doomed to die in his early thirties or forties. All of the personality traits that make him a villain are explored in some detail by SEED, and further - posthumously - in Destiny. Muruta Azrael on the other hand is much more actively evil and unsympathetic, but he is also supposed to serve as an example of how paranoia and mistrust inevitably allows fascistic monsters to take control over society and twist it to evil ends. Even _then_, the show goes out of its way to demonstrate that he does not have total backing by his underlings, who question his authority and his plans for genocide constantly. In the end, he dies after being betrayed by the very individual he personally selected to command his flagship, due to her loyalty and dedication to the chain of command.
I could go on for many paragraphs, but I hope I've demonstrated my points adequately enough in this mini-essay here. I think this video has _some_ decent points, but it _vastly_ overestimates the impact of these points and hugely downplays all the really good things contained within the Cosmic Era timeline.

Thank you. I appreciate the support. To clarify something; I don't think SEED is the best Gundam show, and it has plenty of flaws and issues that can be analyzed from a pretty objective standpoint. I do however like it a lot for what it manages to do right. Even Destiny, despite fumbling many, many times, has its own virtues and a lot more depth than people often give it credit for. If people dislike SEED and its sequel, that's their prerogative. But I do feel a certain need to critique and dissemble arguments about it that don't seem to have any real veracity to them.

      couldn't agree more!
This what I loved about this series, it tackles the moral judgement of humanity whether it was good to modify our DNA for the better of humanity (Coordinators) vs the normal human being (naturals). It also tackles of what might happen when Humanity takes the route of human enhancement which is very achievable now, for instance if the people suddenly have a cognitive enchantment due to genetic engineering and they became the most smartest being on earth and because of our moral compass today for the religious it would blasphemy, and in most extreme cases imagine the slavery period slaves became super smart I'm pretty sure that slave people would be extinct (I admit this is a worst example). This is just one of the example of human behaviors and in SEED it just tackles of all that. That's why I don't really know the hate on SEED, I'm pretty sure that people who watch didn't understand the message of the series or just haters who join the bandwagon of haters and just hating it.
This where SICnanigans biased comes in, her logical argument she's states how ordinary this series is and focused on how clean and to her eyes how bishounen drawing style it was, by that conclusion she argues about how money making industry makes money. In business perspectives she hates how business industry makes money talking about irony of the irony that's why haters gonna hate.
Hopefully you understand my point, I'm not fluent in english at all.

Regardless of SEED's merits or lack thereof, SEED Destiny had the potential to be a worthy sequel. Then they ditched the new cast in favor of the older characters, copied the last half of SEED practically word for word, and hoped that the audience wasn't smart enough to realize it.

Matthew Batts they didn’t copy the end of the first season but they did copy the original Gundam and Gundam Zeta/Double Zeta series mostly, as for your perception of a lack of story you have to dig deep into the story, here’s a clue it’s about hatred?! That might also explain why you feel that they just got lazy and copied the first season because in the first season it was about how these children adjusting to being adults in war about hatred, now Destiny takes it to whole new level and makes you see pure hatred and its outcome which isn’t that much different from the first season, but in season two the original cast have adjusted moving on with life and new cast are struggling and on the wrong side from the beginning to the end. Now the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Zeta/Double Zeta was about the horrors of WAR on Children, I think most of them are about the horrors of war, but Seed/ Seed Destiny series is about hatred a subject sadly we human don’t wanna talk about?

@@samaguirre3283 seed is about hatred. Seed destiny is about Hatred and the use of power.
Durandal feared humanity's hatred, therefore, he wanted to implement the destiny plan. In his naive thinking, if everyone is set on his destiny, there is no point in breaking out of it. It is similar to the caste system, just with genetics, not birthright. Durandal, at one point, had the power to usher in peace after he exposed blue cosmos and has almost everybody Except orb on his side. But orb doesn't want war, durandal knows that given cagali is now in power. He decided on going through with war because of his fear of hatred. He intends to use his power to rob away freedom. It is unjust.
Shinn should be his foil just as how Kira was rau's foil. This is because, despite how Kira talks about peace and mutual understanding he used his power in ways that prolonged conflict. And he thinks he is always in the right. Kidnapping cagali instead of intervening and getting cagali to stand up against seiran to initiate a negotiation means he did not trust that they can reach a mutual understanding. Him killing Stella when shinn could have talked her out of shows that he did not believe that a mutual understanding can be reached. Imagine if at that point, Kira also shouted at Stella while sheathing his sabers and observe the scene because Stella literally stopped what she was doing. I am not discounting that Kira should kill Stella to prevent the devastation at the soonest possible time, but from a narrative standpoint it shows his willingness to use force when mutual understanding could have been reached. Clyne faction's use of mirage colloid and n-jammer canceller shows that they are all on board on this might is right thing, and yes, they just violated the Junius treaty after forced zaft and EA to sign post seed. Kira could have met with durandal and try to talk things out with cagali in hand. This could be accompanied by athrun. Whether or not the talk succeeds is not the point, but it shows his unwillingness to understand his enemy (durandal have issued orders to kill lacus). If the talk ends in failure then all the better: what happens when both sides disagree? Is there room for peace? This can be explored further throughout the series. Kira confronting shinn would also make a good drama, shinn reminding Kira of his dead family, showing that despite his efforts, he still couldn't prevent collateral damage, questioning his use of force. And shinn being reminded of the inevitability of deaths in war, even of the one killing his family is on the right side. This humanises both characters and it is something Kira must contend with in destiny. (My beam spam hurts people too)
Shinn pilots the impulse when he was an impulsive brat. That's why, despite his conviction to use his power to protect others, he succumbed to hatred and used it to destroy people who never intended to kill him i.e. not his enemies. Exemplified by shinn repeatedly exploiting Kira's unwillingness to land killing blows until later on, and him taking down athrun and meyrin. Frankly all three should've died. And that segues into shinn's character growth. His next suit is destiny, because his choice later on determines whether humanity is destined for durandal's plan or freedom and justice, two beliefs destroyed by shinn (Kira and athrun)
Essentially seed destiny could have explored in deeper themes whether peace in eternal tyranny is better than freedom with the risk of war. Team kira uses direct force to enforce peace, while durandal stands by the destiny plan: enforcing peace through social segregation and genetics.
Remember the lesson in seed: regardless of who you are, we are all humans. So durandal's values are contradictory to seed's themes. It's the same for Kira because he contradicted the ideal that mutual understanding is the road to peace.
Shinn should represent the belief that humanity can reconcile and transcend hatred without the use of force and tyranny. Another very idealistic thing, but it's something that resonates well with us.

A chest cannon and also not one but two beam rifles that can be combined into a beam cannon. The only thing that would make it more OP is if it had cloaking teching too.

I think a strong point of SEED and the cosmic era is the the dynamics with Naturals and Coordinators most of the franchise before it follows space colonies wanting independence both as antagonists and protagonists there’s nothing wrong with that but SEED adds the question of genetic modification and the reactions to it some embracing it in the colonies and rejecting it on earth it adds a extra layer to the conflict with both sides being no better than each because the prejudice on both sides leads them to commit horrific atrocities in the name of extinction of the other.

    • @JTaylortrois
      @JTaylortrois 11 місяців тому

This was something I liked about Seed as well. I thought the conflict between Naturals and Coordinators was relatively easy to understand compared to UC's Spacenoids and Newtype evolution mumbo-jumbo. Similar to the sci-fi film Gattaca but more generalized, it raises a lot of questions about what should be valued in people and why (for example, is it better to excel as an individual or to help push the team forward). If I had seen Seed as a teen high school honor student I'm sure I would've sympathized primarily with the Coordinators, but as an adult I understand their creation to have been a great crime and a set-back for humans, it isn't clear to me how they can coexist peaceably with Naturals.
Unfortunately, like a lot of things I found interesting about the first half of Seed are wasted potential in the second half where all sources of conflict are simply killed off.

The reason why I love the side stories or alternate timelines like seed and 00 is because the stories are much more condensed and you don't need prior knowledge of the previous series or events. I have tried many times to watch the main timeline gundam series but I always find myself lost and hardly knowing what's going on. And I've even tried slogging through the original gundam anime, but to me it's not a fun watch. So I cannot retain it or will essentially not pay attention to it because it's not interesting to watch. But for side stories like seed, G Gundam, 00, etc. They're all fun to watch and I can get into them without needing to know any backstory

  • @JustinVillemure

Seed is a beautiful exploration on what chain of command, taking orders against your better judgement does to a person, to a soul; especially in times of war. Kira is only able to break free from all of it when he is provided the tool to do so - with the apt name, Freedom Gundam. Kira's friends, were all students, free and neutral, and when they are subdued its at the orders of a soldier, who only takes them in as she awaits further orders on how to handle the kids; the kids eventually join the chain of command, and we see the toll it takes (we see the Tolle it takes heh heh). That's ArchAngels initial journey, finding the place where they can get orders - they do not have the agency , they are looking for their place amidst the chain of command. By the end of their long journey they are betrayed by the one's giving orders and this culminates into the crew breaking free and following through on their own ambitions and convictions in this hellish war - throw in the fact that both sides are being commanded by volatile extremists who ultimately want the complete eradication of their opposition - and amidst all of this, are two best friends who are losing their friendship over said orders to carry out the whims of the deranged commanders.
Ppl who don't like Seed don't appreciate the sheer weight of the story its telling.
I see the complaint about reused shots time and time again - what Gundam series prior to Seed didn't do that? Enough with that. Its as shallow a reason to dislike Seed as there is.

This video is really interesting ^^
As someone who has been watching Gundam Seed (on and off until now) it's good to hear someone talk about it from the perspective of a Gundam fan. Yes, it is an easy way to get into the Gundam series, and it has some pretty cheesy moments (and especially Flay for about 80% of the show), but I think that some do love the cheesiness, the K-Drama levels of drama. Hell, this show got me yelling at my screen because of certain moments, like the end of Phase 40 or when Ramius and La Flaga kissed (because we all knew that was gonna happen but it was still enjoyable nonetheless)
But I am glad I came across your video, even if it was because it was recommended on a video of the first intro ^^'

Because it was the first all out war sub-genre from Gundam since the Universal Century days. With Gundam you either get two things:
young kids piloting gundams fighting a large organization (Wing, Iron Blooded Orphans, 00)
    or
young kids piloting gundams trying to stop? two large organizations who hate each other (Seed, AGE, Original Gundam)

There's something this gets wrong. Gundam attracted a large female viewership since the beginning with 0079. Tomino himself has gone on record saying that the vast majority of Gundam fans when the original was airing were young women; they created the first fanzines for Gundam and visited the cast after recordings While male fans only really became the majority after the fact with the introduction of Gunpla and the compilation movies. Recent sunrise polling further backs this up, as large segments of Gundam's female fans in Japan very much skew older, old enough to have watched Universal Century shows when they were new. The original Gundam is NOT your typical action show, especially for something in the late 70's; it's focus on melodrama, character development, sympathtic villians, and willingness to kill off characters ("Who will survive" is even the tag line. ), and rather handsome and fabulous really make out the story to be a drama, even if it is a WAR drama. In terms of contemporary shows of it's time, it resemebles shoujo dramas like Rose of Versailes as much as it does a super robot show. Char, Amuro, and Garma are seen as heartthrobes just as much as any Seed, 00, or Wing pretty boy in the Japanese fandom. Char x Amuro and Char x Garma are some of the oldest ships/yaoi ships in the history of anime as far as "fujoshi" / yaoi culture is concerned. And the ancient douins that prove it aren't all that hard to find proof of. Seed is not special in this at all; it tried to recapture the original in so many ways. And the focus on drama and gaining a female fanbase was just another aspect of that. Like I understand thinking Seed or Wing was the first, but it comes from misunderstanding in being from the Western side of the fandom where you don't have the complete picture of Gundam's history. And that's true of me too, for certain, but a little digging can do wonders.

    • @Raydnt69
      @Raydnt69 6 років тому +12

Not really, they already started a bond when they first met on the Archangel.
Lacus already saw what a gentle person Kira was during her brief stay on the Archangel
When she made her way back to the plants she told Arthun that she was "quite fond" of Kira, signifying her attraction to him.
Then when Kira was rescued after his battle with Athrun he had quite some time to get more antiquated with Lacus while he was healing.
And then Lacus gives Kira the Freedom, to not kill as Flay wanted him to, but to protect.
This ideal rings soundly with Kira, which gives an attraction to Lacus on his end.
Finally when they reunite in space, they solidify their bond as Lacus depends on Kira for emotional support after her father died while Kira doing the same after finding out the truth about himself.
So naw, not really out of nowhere.

    • @romutulus253
      @romutulus253 6 років тому +3

Well, but all of that are all inferred. The show certainly was not trying to lead us that way until it happened. "Quite fond" could mean the various levels of attractions. And holding the same ideal doesn't mean that you need to be emotionally attracted to her. It's more like... you can consider her as a comrade or sth. I don't know really... It feels like you are putting a lot more words into the story than the story writer is. I understand that not all shows will throw you all the information, but this isn't even subtle, it's basically nonexistent.

    • @Raydnt69
      @Raydnt69 6 років тому +7

It seems you disregard my evidence purely based on your speculation of the scenes.
Well, to you it would look like it was out of nowhere since you think nothing of those scenes.
They wouldnt have Lacus say something like that about Kira unless there was a good reason.
Its supposed to be subtle, theres a lot of subtle parts in this series.
Sure I might be looking into it a little bit more, but thats what you have to do with subtle scenes, gotta look beyond.
If you didnt notice any of it then I guess its just how you see it.
They're together, I explained evidence, if you dont see it then you just dont see it I suppose.

Plus, it's a decent reboot of the original UC material and even features a good deconstruction of the Brigth Slap trope in Destiny.
It is far from the best Gundam in the series but it certainly deserves its spot in the middle of the pack. In a formulaic show like gundam, any innvovation is welcome (Except for FUCKING RIBBONS). They changed it up a bit and took a chance, which is commendable in the end.

Incoming fanboy essay, boy I wrote this one quite long:
What a coincidence~ I just finished my rewacthing of SEED and SEED destiny, 1st was years ago when it aired locally in TV, then years later, during high School I must say, SEED is my first serious Anime, it's what got me into this fandom, all from copying 48 episodes of animation series off my Friend's Hard Disk. I got engrossed in it, downloaded the sequel, and finished a full 100 episodes, suffice to say, I was hooked.
Though I have to admit mostly because i was left in awe to it, as the 1st series I watched, actually, I find years later, encompasses a lot of the genre I still love and sought after now. SEED's OST and music are my most memorable anime music, I love to listen to them when the mood strikes me, they got that one aspect nailed, truly.
A couple years later, did a quick watch of the movie series, it was short but enjoyable. then 2 week Ago, in a whim I restarted it again, from 0 now with the Remastered version now in my hands... and you know what, years after hundreds of watching other anime, some great some mediocre and everything in between, also 2 other Gundams, 00 and IBO (edit: ah also, Unicorn... but I never watched UC so it's just a blur for me), I have to say, SEED is still my favorite Gundam (yes, REALLY!) with IBO a very close second.
It's a combination of nostalgia, great music, and the very familiar characters, I just can't put them down, also the topic at hand I see never truly came as a clear Black and White as you may have said, the Action of Flay, I can see and relate to happening to other characters in some novel I'vce read before, Chairman Durandal and his Idea, I can finally understand after watching episode 29, and Meer's for her past, just a couple episodes I remember can't really understand as a kid and skipped (haha). Yes, it presented an idealistic point of view of their way in saving the situations from total genocide, but hey, some look into anime because it has different values than reality from the start, is it not?
It's also a series that reminds me of my preference, yes, I accept I AM a Romance Junkie, and Dramatic development too, I can't seem to leave my childish side to still be awed by Kira Descending from the Sky, saving the crew from peril, also even though it has "way more than really ever should be" rehashed animation in its fights, I still love the action, and find glee to see new animations added for Remaster.
This Gundam is made for me and I don't regret saying so. 😁

THANK. YOU. I was JUUUST talking to my bestest bud about this, and you captured EVERYTHING I was saying too it's scary xDD all done in a WONDERFUL video format. SEED Destiny was my very first series, which then drove me to the craze of watching everything else as well. And as much as I can try to claim other series to be my favorite, Destiny will always haunt me for the nostalgia and lovey dovey overdose that caught my attention when I was younger. Honestly I love the whole cheesy lovey stuff in Gundam series (thats I guess what I was looking for in watching all the other series?), and is thus why G Gundam is actually (and ironically) on top of my list of favorites followed up by 08th MS Team.

I subscribed to/discovered this channel today. This video is really well put together! I get the impression that this channel had more videos at some point? I really hope this isn't the last video uploaded to this channel.
