    @m1217k I mounted the blades Thursday to do a static balance and lead lag. I got the positive and negative pitch set. I changed the coolant sender and put in an oxygen sensor today. I plan to pull it out of the garage and run it tomorrow (Sunday) without the blades and if everything is running good and the rain holds off then I will mount the blades and run everything Monday during tethered testing. Then after 5 hours of tethered operation i will start hover testing.

    @donold009 The blades that I have were made for my helicopter by Precision rotors. The root end is 2.8" thick for my larger rotor hub, the blades are 12' 1'" long for a diameter of 25' 10" , 8" chord, 1.1 inch thick. I ran it today at 510 rpm after geting the lead/lag close to where it needs to be. The Subaru engine runs great now that I have all the wiring sorted out.

      @@jonb9428 you've inspired me to get another RW. I have a subaru to rebuild out of a outback I own. I'd be willing to pay you for how you did all this. Your dash looks great too. I plan to throw out the old dash and built a standard T console. I had to sell my first one during a divorce. I lost the house but won the dog so I won that little spat. Anyway, I'm an old army pilot that's just crazy enough to do something like this so I could use some help.

      Miclair Miclair The gear reduction needs to be suited to your machine. Too small and it won’t be able to handle the torque, too big and it will be too heavy.

    Wow, that's a old heli.... I remember back in the late '70's one of these came through Starkville, MS airport on a trailer for sale $700 - $800....... I sure wish I would have bought that thing.......

      It looks old but the only things original on my helicopter are the cabin, seats and parts of the frame. Everything else I came up with on my own. I see original scorpions for sale occasionally.

    Hi,
    great job.
    What is the total weight of the helicopter and how much do you think it will be able to carry more cargo?
    I ask because I'm starting to build a coaxial helicopter, I'm thinking of using an EJ 25 engine, so I'm interested in some winning characteristics?
    For me, only the main shaft with gears will weigh close to 100 kg. :(
    Thank you very much...

    • @jonb9428
      @jonb9428  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, Empty weight is 1460 pounds. I can fly with me (200pounds) and passenger (200pounds) plus 15 gallons of gas if the outside temperature is less than 70 degrees F. At 100 degrees F outside temperature it will barely lift me. My transmission and rotor system without blades weighs 180 pounds. Feel free to email me at jonb9428@msn.com

  • @jonb9428
    @jonb9428  13 років тому +1

    @JTGolden250 It is a series 100 from superior gearbox with 1:1.4 ratio speed increaser. There are several different versions to choose from just find the one that suits your needs. My gearbox temp has never gone above 160*. What are you working on?

  • @2strokeorchoke496

    So cool... There's one of these for sale in my town it's in peices it needs full restoration I was thinking about buying it but i didn't see the swash plate set up in the pics. Static balance and lead lag sounds like theres quite a bit to know to put one of these together. How long did it take you to put this together? how much do you have invested?

    What is the diameter of your main shaft? In my case, the diameter is 35 mm (round bar, material 4140) for the central one, because it is coaxial. I hope it will be enough because the mlment is divided into two shafts??? Thanks

    • @jonb9428
      @jonb9428  17 днів тому +1

      @@aleksandarbrankovic3482 It depends on what the total weight is, but 35mm should be good . The diameter of mine is 1.5” or 38.1mm

    What blades are you using? Rotorway blades rotate clockwise and your system turns counterclockwise. That is the problem I ran into, it would be nice to see someone get a Subaru engine to work.

      The engine is a Subaru EJ257 with modified SOHC heads and intake. The main gearbox is a front differential from a 97 Chevrolet 4x4, modified internally to run at 90 degrees offset.

    Hello sir Jonb 9428.'m in Brazil, I have a dream of building an experimental helicopter, however I intend to use a VW 2.0 liter carbureted, I wonder what kind of transmission was used in their helicopter, to connect the engine to the main rotor and syrup. would be a replacement or a differential pick-up. take my doubt.
    I await your return. have a nice day
    grateful .Jair

    O companheiro do vídeo, por favor, nós próximos aproxime mais das peças pra se ver os detalhes construtivos. Pra quem tem "sinho" de construir um, é importante a visualização das peças principalmente o "swashplate" e as pás do rotor, assim como os material de que são feitas e como são feitas, do contrário não ajuda os iniciantes. Ok?
