It's oddly sad to see Vandemic wrapping up. Like any good binge worthy content we get emotionally involved and attached to these things we are only spectators of and find ourselves missing them once it's over. Although I know you will be keeping Vandemic alive and joyfully daily driving, the journey has definitely been a bright spot and I will miss it. You know, it's the journey not the destination. I will miss the journey but luckily the journey never ends! I guess that's what keep us building these old cars, one after the last. The new lessons or tricks we learn along with the repetitive tasks that are almost committed to muscle memory. You have done a great service to people just starting and learning about the car hobby but also to the veteran car guys and gals! Reigniting and energizing other builders, motivating them with your progress and determination. Bring on Dweezil!
Thanks so much for your beautifully written thoughts. You're right- it's great to accomplish a goal but a little sad to move on from the process. If we get it right, our experience should only make the next project better. Thanks as always for your support!
I have truly enjoyed all your videos. I am the proud owner of a 1962 11 window bus and I've learned a great deal watching your videos. You have an endearing personality with makes watching a real pleasure. I've watched many car videos on UA-cam, but yours are the only ones which bring a smile to my face while watching. Thanks
Wow 99unlv11, thanks for the wonderfully kind remarks. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and I appreciate the support! I'm sure the '62 is a lot of fun and a true representation of the classic split window VW bus. Thanks again!
Very cool Keoki, Squarebacks are super cool and I know you'll enjoy cruising in that classic. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos- thanks for watching!
I’m glad you do exist to keep them alive. You’ve got a tiny piece of history that your coaxing along present day with patience and skill and many of us in this throwaway world have forgotten that if you do it well enough, history should willingly come with you for the ride. Great video
Thanks Simon, very nice remarks. The deeper level of engagement we have with old cars is an experience we don't get with modern vehicles. There's good to both but the old stuff seems more rewarding and validates a virtuous approach. Thanks for the support!
I like what you said that these cars need us to keep them alive. With modern cars being so reliable, it seems that less and less people are capable of keeping these old vehicles on the road. There is great satisfaction in being among those that are capable. For myself, I get more out of making them useable again than actually using them. Great job you did and I am looking forward to seeing what you have to show us with Deezle.👍
Very nice! This is better than any prime time TV show. Thank you for your hard work and attention to detail. I can't wait to let my daughter see the beginning. She's a dog lover and aspires to be a trainer and/or work with dogs in some form or fashion. I couldn't help but reminisce a little when you were getting fuel. I remember in 1989 still being able to put leaded fuel into the tank of my 70 Beetle. That's what those engines were designed to use and I think they performed better and lasted longer. Again and as always thank you for the clean content. In a world (the internet) where there is so much hate and discontent heavily peppered with filthiness you come through with a pleasing gentleness. It is greatly appreciated! See ya soon! Until then I'll try to be patient waiting for your next video!
Thanks again Mofoco 1432, it's always great to hear from you. I kinda like the first part with Tig in it too. Yeah, leaded fuel had its problems but was stable and kept valve seats happy. Was good while it lasted! We are fortunate in this hobby to have a relatively high rate of positivity online. I appreciate that just as you do, and it's gratifying to be considered a part of it. I'll get to work on the next one and look forward to sharing again. Thanks for the support!
My throw out shaft broke on the welds found heavy duty welded cross shafts and been good since , Had one bent arm and thrashed my clutch but it was a subtle misalignment caused it . The safety wire on the clips hasn't been a problem .
Thanks erwinsm10, good to know. I ordered an HD cross shaft after completing the project; I keep it with the bus for the next time the engine is out. Thanks for watching!
Thanks Jesper! I really appreciate encouraging comments like yours; we'd do this anyway but it's great to know we're connecting on some level. Thanks for watching!
Another fabulous video, loved it a lot. Lots of great how to tips and it's great to see everything done properly and competently. I always wish your videos were longer... The introduction monologue was spot on and captured the spirit of VW ownership to a tee. You can never guarantee reliability, but you can always have a red hot crack at giving it the best possible chance. Can't wait until the next instalment, including work on the Beetle.
Thanks once again for a kind and well worded review of the latest video, I always look forward to hearing your take on what has been shared. I'm glad you liked the into, I'm pleasantly surprised with how it has resonated among many of us in the ranks of dedicated VW enthusiasts. Looking forward to sharing Dweezil's progress too. Thanks again for being a part of the channel Aussie Beatle!
@@HapticGarage I really enjoy your very thoughtful, competent and intelligent approach to VW maintenance and ownership. Hey Haptic. Sorry don’t know your real name. Glad I came across your channel. You are a great mechanic. Very meticulous when it’s needed but willing to be flexible as well. Inspired by your dedication to doing things the right way. Appreciate all the time you spend editing as well. Just caught up on the series. I learned a few tricks so I will keep them in mind when I get my bus on the road again. Goal is to drive across the county for my birthday next year. Wish me luck dude.

You are doing great; I love how methodical you are in doing things right and as your means allow. Your left rear transaxle mount looks a little suspect.
Thanks Vayabroder! Yes, good catch. Both rear mounts and probably the front mount are due for replacement. They're on the list for the next time the engine comes out. I really should have caught that during the original rebuild... but we'll go with it! Thanks for watching and being a part of the livestream, that was a lot of fun!
@@HapticGarage My car has been making a clunking noise occasionally for a while now. It happens when driving slow or when going in reverse as the clutch engages. Feels like something loose by the transaxle area and the only thing I can think of is the front transaxle mount. I have checked and tightened everything. I am thinking that mount is broken inside and you cannot see it; it happens quite commonly. I hope I don’t have to take the motor out; in my case it has dual carbs with linkage and all the trimmings so not fun to do. I was thinking I could get away with taking off the two big bolts attaching the transaxle cradle to the frame horns, disengaging the accelerator cable and maybe clutch cable, taking the rear engine tin out and hoping there’s enough space there to pull the motor along with the transaxle back to be able to fish out the old nosecone mount and put the new one in. Keeping fingers crossed!!
Oh wow, I hope this works out for you without too much trouble. I agree with your analysis that the rubber may have separated on the mount. I've had that happen on a different car too (a TH400 behind a 454, was exciting). I think your plan would be of most benefit if you have an IRS car; seems like it would be a little tougher on a swing axle. I'm guessing you've already checked the rear mounts, which would of course require pulling the engine to change. But anyway, I know you've got this and let us know how it goes!
@@HapticGarage it’s a swingaxle...🙄🙄🙄. I do have a new set of the rear mounts stashed for when needed. I was planning to switch some parts in the motor such as a counterweighted crank along with a performance cam and lifters and that will require a complete teardown including machine work on the heads to install dual valve springs. But I didn’t want to take the engine out unless I have everything ready to go to do the whole thing at once and at the moment I don’t. Let’s see if we are lucky.
Check the starter bushing before you re- install the engine. Your starter may be ok after all. Sloppy play in your starter shaft cuz of a worn bushing may make you think you got a bad starter.
