I rarely comment on the videos I watch but I have to tell you your series on this old bus has been one of the most enjoyable I have ever watched. Although it may be because I have been slowly refurbishing a 1967 bus myself, but I think it was more than that. Your series has not only been so helpful in my quest but, whether real or not(hoping it is), your delivery and personality have been so relatable. It's like watching your good friend accomplish a project and being hopeful. While I realize you possess outstanding skills and just make things look so easy, I often found myself envisioning myself standing next to you, with a drink in hand, helping out and simply shooting the breeze. Strange, I know, but also very calming and zen-like. I wish all channels were like this. Your attitude has often kept me going during times of frustration. How many times have we all looked at our project and feel convinced it has a mind of its own and is actually "trying" to give us grief. Instead of allowing these thoughts to get the best of me I find myself chanting your words, "remember, this is supposed to be fun........" and it always brings me back. Thank you again and, as I'm sure you hear this often, I really do hope one day to have the pleasure of meeting and saying hello. All my best and I will continue to watch future videos
----Robert (Massachusetts)
Thanks so much for the kind and thoughtful comment JoJo. It's gratifying to know the videos have been helpful to you on multiple levels; part of what I enjoy about sharing this hobby is relating to others with similar pursuits. Hopefully we get the chance to meet someday by chance or otherwise. I'm a regular at local shows but want to start checking out some shows north of I-10 soon. Either way, thanks for your viewership and the supportive thoughts!
Cant wait to chat with you at a vw meetup one day when my split is done, and let you know how much help you have been to me with this series. Sometimes, I found consolation in seeing you overcome small failures with positivity, giving me the motivation to get back in the garage and try again. As a beginner at restoration, but long time VW and canine lover, this series is saved for rewatching and relearning. Thanks man.
You're welcome Brandon, and it would be great to chat in person someday so I could hear about your project and everything you're getting accomplished. I'm glad you've enjoyed the series and look forward to sharing more. Stay tuned and thanks for being a part of the channel!
It was worth it ALL, thanks for taking us on the journey. It’s all about the journey not the destination🤔
Thanks Mike, good times throughout. Thanks for being a part of it!
What a GREAT conclusion to the project and the story! I really marvel at your attention to detail and how you apply that to EVERYTHING! I also greatly admire your approach to the unexpected…This is why I like to watch rather than do. I hate the unexpected and unlike you, when it happens I react like a pinball machine…TILT.. and the ball drains down the center. The way you take it in stride is really inspirational. On another note….please do something about your windshield wiper, the way it streaks right in the middle just drives me CRAZY…You can’t leave it that way. I’m looking forward to dweezle.
Thanks Ken, I'm glad you've enjoyed the series and I appreciate all of the positivity. The wipers are a disappointment; even the higher priced "top quality" stuff needs help sometimes. Working on Dweezil today. Stay tuned!
What a great wrap up for this series, I always look forward to your next video to come out. I love how you capture the spirit of a guy, working on his project, making due with what he has, and all the mental gymnastics one must go through to reach the goal. So much more enjoyable, and relatable than just throwing money at the project. I hope to see more in the future!👍
Thanks Nutt Farm Garage, I appreciate how supportive you've been over the last couple years. There is more on the way... I feel like we are just getting started. Thanks again for "getting" it and your continued viewership.
Very well said!
Excellent video and wrap up to the series! Can't wait to see what the future holds.
Thanks Gary, glad to have this one in the history books and moving onward!
Very enjoyable series. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I’ve been wrenching on and driving VW’s for 47 years. I currently own and daily-drive two…a ‘68 bug and a ‘68 Karmann Ghia. I enjoy the challenge of keeping them in top shape and in driving them in traffic alongside modern cars, mostly in the slow lane. I receive smiles and thumbs up nearly every day.
Shout-out! #projectvandemic
Fantastic project. Thoroughly enjoyed watching each episode. All the best.
Thanks Peter, this was a lot of fun to do and share. Thanks for watching and all the best to you too!
I would love a rusty old rat bus like that. I have a ‘72 bay and as much as I love it, an old bucket of a splitty is just so cool.
Thanks Soggz! It's hard to beat the charm of a Splitty. I like other VWs for other reasons- for example a bay has more legroom and is easier to get in and out of. They're all good. Thanks for watching!
Hi Dear Brent, Wow this was really great, from A to O, First the most important is the service of the steering rack Greasing all the points that needed service and the most Important the oil service. Well when that`s mentioned, Thank youfor taking me with you on this great road trip and journey. I did enjoy every minute of your experience with 57 Bus Project Vandemic. you have done great work to get hitting the road again. Great content and adding of this video. Keep up the good work .and I look forward to the next video. Greetings, Hubertus.
Thanks as always Hubertus, I appreciate your continued support and kind comments. Looking forward to seeing your T3 on the road- I know you'll get there when the time is right and it will be a great day. Thanks again for being a part of the fun!
A friend of mine said do one thing a day for your project (67 sundial). In about a year (travel for business slowed things down), I drove it one day after my target date. The engine blew up 5years ago, I pulled it out the garage to take out next week, finally got the engine back in tonight, but that is my pursuit of happiness....during the pandemic, I installed teh subaru into the vanagon....
Thanks DanTheManIOM, I like the one-thing-a-day strategy. I'm glad it worked for you and you're still keeping the Sundial. Thanks for sharing!
Really enjoy your videos I just play them over and over while I am in the shop. You have really influenced me to slow down and be more meticulous on whatever project I am on. Definitely like the longer videos
Playing Haptic Garage on loop in your shop?!? That is soooo cool! Thanks for the compliment and feedback @kyridgejumper!
What an amazing adventure! The bus looks awesome! That rod trip looks like fun!
Thanks CT, it's been a great journey. Looking forward to cruising with Rusty when the time is right, we have some great roads to cover near us. Talk atcha soon!
those steering boxes are usually dry. and the bottom seal usually leaks. I use STP in them because it does not leak as fast. and works well. Super thick and light weight oil
Yeah, it's not on the top of everyone's maintenance list so a lot of them do end up dry. As I recall this one needed a lot of fluid. Nice to hear from you Mike!
Great video series! It’s been fun following along. Thanks!
Thanks Jed, this was a lot of fun to share and gives me a place to go while reminiscing this project. Thanks for being a part of it!
Great video and I completely agree with your one and only reason for touring in your bus.
The relatively trouble free driving is a huge testament to how thorough you are with routine and preventative maintenance. It’s an inspiration to us all. The repair on the grease point was awesome, well done.
When you do some merchandising, I’ll be there with bells on. I’d love to have a Haptic sticker on my 65 Microbus. Love this channel.
Thanks for all the support throughout this project Aussie Beatle, looking forward to sharing more. Thanks for the nudge on merch- I think it's time to seriously look into that. I replied to your previous email regarding a Haptic Garage sticker; it would be super cool to have one cruising around Australia!
I've been really busy wanting to watch this video and I finally did.
Congrats on the finished project, Brent. I totally get your feeling as I also did replace and renew everything "consumable" and that needed fixing on my '81 Mexi Baywindow. Having your bus roadtrip-worthy is the most awesome feeling, as you know your decades old VW works just like as if it was new.
I need to go through the engine on my bus, though. I had purchased another one that was good, no crank end play (no worn engine), but it developed end play after just a couple of months of use. I guess I'm going to rebuild it (didn't want to do it, but meh...) so now that the borders will be reopened, I'll be able to go to Texas and all those nice places I used to go. And who knows? Maybe I will get to Florida...
Nice vid, man. Keep up the good work!
Hey VochoTalacha, always great to hear from you! Thanks for the congrats, you're right about how great it is to have a reliable classic. I told somebody the other day that it doesn't really measure up to a modern car but I get other thing from driving it that modern cars can't provide.
Hopefully the thrust area on #1 main isn't the cause of your end play issues, but either way I know you'll get it put together and reliably cruising down the road soon. Sorry to hear about the unexpected issue with that engine. Now is the time of year to be in FL, so let me know when you're on the way!
Thanks as always for the support and I hope you and yours continue to do well!
@@HapticGarage ain't no modern car give you the joy.of driving an old VW
*mic drop*
Great series, will miss these videos. But now you can get back into the beetle 😃
You've got it McBeardface, Dweezil is up next. Thanks for being a part of the project!
One of the top 5 kombi channels.
Whoa! I'll take it! Thanks for watching Kombi Batuta, we'll keep it up.
You are the Marty Stouffer of vws....love the journey
Thanks for the compliment Eduardo, I'm glad you've enjoyed the series!
Great series and great work on the video. With all the trials and tribulations it came out very well. Looking forward for more content. Thanks
Thanks Matthew! There were a few bumps along the way but any great journey has its challenges. It was so great to have everyone along for the ride and I'm grateful for all the support. On to the next thing!
Lock n Lube has worked great for me. Another nice video!
Yeah BigEstudios, it's worked well with a flex hose. Kinda pricey but the good stuff always is. Thanks for watching!
I absolutely love the opening statement, I think we can all relate and we all have the common goal of getting our project VW back on the road, I’ve had my VW bus for about 3 years doing minimal work on it but after watching this series I got motivated and the engine is going back in hopefully this weekend god willing. Thanks for the inspiration please keep making videos we all appreciate them.
Thanks TypeR, it's great to hear you are pushing hard on your bus project. Good luck with the engine install, it'll be on the road soon!
Got the engine in yesterday, did a test start and it ran perfect!
Great news TypeR! Nothing like cranking up a sleeping engine and hearing it purr. Good stuff.
Vantastic good deal👍🍻
Hey I see what you did there, mic drop! Thanks for watching Katmandu!
Awesome video! Well made. I have enjoyed watching your journey. Thanks.
Thanks a080867, it's great to have you along for the ride. Thanks for the support!
Loved the vandemic videos and excellent work throughout, really enjoyed the tinware fixing .Bring on the beetle 👍
Thanks vwcoco, I enjoyed sharing the tin work. Onward to Dweezil!
Man, I really love your dog
Thanks Matildo, I do too. He's a great dog and he loves the bus!
Great style - enjoyed watching from Suffolk in England - thank you for Sharing your toil and enjoyment :)
Thanks Ian, happy to share. I hope all is well in beautiful Suffolk!
AWESOME great music too.
Thanks TheWhitetailrancher!
Hi Brent, It`s hit the sack time for me, Good night, and a jump into the vid again tomorrow-It`s now hee 22:15.Greetings.Hubertus.🇳🇴
Thanks for spending some time with us again Hubertus and keep up the great work!
@@HapticGarage Thanks Brent I surely will do that. You too.
I fancy your attitude in these videos, dandy change of pace..
Thanks Marcus!
Good times.
Looks like you have a great copilot.
Enjoyed the video.
Good times indeed John, and my bus-loving copilot is one of the best. Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching!
Great end to the project Vandemic. Makes me anxious to get my project done or at least driving!!
Thanks dtadpole! Keep at it and you'll be updating us with road trip stories soon!
Congrats on Vandemic.
It made for a great series.
How about a tour and history on the motorhome?
agreed ! WHat was that thing ??
Thanks Steve, I'm glad you enjoyed the series! You can see more of The Moseyhome here: ua-cam.com/video/87r0kkFNR9Q/v-deo.html I like the idea of a tour and would love to include more travels in Haptic Garage videos. Thanks for the support!
Thanks DanTheManIOM, it's a 1975 Argosy 26 made by Airstream. Based on a Chevy P30 chassis with warmed up 454. Thanks for the interest, will be including it more in future videos.
Good philosophie of life !
When i drive my spleety vw , for the next road trip,
I' remember
Thanks Breiz, I appreciate the positivity! These old cars make it easy to remember the finer parts of life. Enjoy your drive!
Grate to see a roadtrip!
I agree Manie, thanks for watching!
Oh no, bummer you got Zerked off! I hate when that happens. Keep up keepen up with the Darling VWs.
Yeah, that turned into a mess but we got through it. Thanks for watching Peter!
I enjoyed seeing my home town (Daytona) on your video!
Nice! I'm driving back from Daytona right now- had to catch the last bit of Biketoberfest. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for video! I'm still in the restoration process with my 65 bus. I'll definitely come down to the show when I'm done! Hope fully next year lol
Very cool, best of luck on your progress with the '65. Ok, put it on the calendar- Bug Jam '22!
Awesome video. You do such a great job on your videos. Thanks for bringing us along on your adventures
Thanks Zimm, glad to have you with us. Looking foward to seeing your continued progress on your '76!
Loved the series!
Thanks Mighty Quin, glad to have you along for the ride!
Great series! Thanks again for sharing.
Thanks Christopher, I'm happy to have everyone along for the ride. Thanks for watching!
Add windshield wiper blades to the list of things to do :)
Yeah... those have been a disappointment- they're actually new! They don't sit perfectly flat on the windshield. I should try to straighten them a bit but anyway, thanks for watching!
great video as always! can't wait to see what else you share!
Thanks Levi, we'll all be cruising soon because show season starts now!
loved the video . great job
Thanks bad91teg, glad to have you with us!
At 34:00 - That Permatex is like aspirin. Some things you just can't improve upon.
I hear ya Rob. Can't argue with proven solutions. Thanks for watching!
Great video Brent! I've been thinking about getting one of those "Lock and Lube" thingy's.. Looks like they work pretty good.
Thanks Rob! It does work well but I recommend using it with a flex hose instead of the standard hard line. As long as the access is decent, it works great. Not sponsored, but if someone there wants to give me a call...
Very nicely done sir. Some day we will drive that Daytona loop with our Bus. Just have to get out of Canada...goals!
Thanks Cathy and Greg, it's a nice drive- particularly the north curvy section and A1A. There's a lot of nice drives on your way down from Canada too! Blueridge Parkway, Dragon's tail, etc. Good luck pursuing that worthy goal and thanks for watching!
My favorite sequences are the ones with Tig. The “Tiguences”
Good one Greg! Tig approved.
Loved it ! great commentary its a great feeling every dunebuggy event we go to and put 200 miles or better on the buggy and no issues. Loved the video looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks Robert, a successful road trip is a great thing indeed. More to come, thanks for the support!
Kool episodes of VW life. Wondering why u never primed and/or painted the ceiling with box linere paint??? Great job , cheers from B.C. Canada
Thanks Peter! I'm not familiar with "box linere" paint, please advise! I didn't do anything to the body, just stayed focused on mechanical reliability. So far it's been great and maybe sometime I will be able to do a proper metal work and paint job. Cheers to you too!
Excellent. I'm just starting my journey with a 64 bus. Will probably watch all of your bus videos again for motivation and encouragement. Where can I buy your window sticker?
Sooooo cool Ozarks Hillbilly, I think you'll really enjoy your '64 and I'm glad you find the videos motivating! I haven't done the merch thing yet, but just for you- find my email in the channel's "about" tab. Send me a mailing address and I'll just mail one to you. Thanks for watching!
Hi Brent, how you doing my friend? Your videos are always so good. It's a inspiration, a motivational video. Keep going, be safe and health !!!!
Thanks Andre, great to hear from you! I hope all is well for you and yours. Thanks for the support!
Nicely done
Thanks Simon! Great having you with us today.
@@HapticGarage it’s been a great series with your skills and meticulous devotion on show, could only be improved upon by having Morgan Freeman narrate your journey 🤣. Thank you for sharing, it’s been most satisfying.
Wouldn't that be cool?!? To hear Morgan Freeman say ANYTHING about old VWs? What do you bet he has a VW story just like everybody else... I guess we can dream.
@@HapticGarage That would be something.
The Proper repair for your stripped zerk fitting ..would be to just upsize the thread diameter and retap it to fit anything ( metric or standard threads ) and fix it quickly and easily without taking it beyond what you need...which is a zerk fitting that snugs up and isn't loose.. No need to go overboard on what is a simple repair.... I would buy extra zerk fittings and a tap ( if you don't own one the right size ) and keep them ready for any future zerk problems....
Probably over tightened at some point in life... The grease in the fitting will let you contain the debris from retapping ( which will be minimum if you clean as you tap and can get anything in the grease easily inside your part )....
Welding a hole is way overkill in this repair.....a zerk fitting has no strain other than being " snug " ( not torqued !! SNUG as in barely past tight )...
Thanks for your thoughts Gary. I considered that option and perhaps it would have been easier. As a hobbyist I don't mind going a little overboard on occasion. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Love the bus! What brand cleaner do you use in your parts washer and does it work well for your needs?
Hi Rich, thanks for the compliments! I use kerosene in my parts washer with great results. I did try biodegradable cleaner for a short time but it was not satisfactory. It's important to make sure the pump is rated for whatever you're using; sometimes it's listed as "solvent safe". If needed, you may take a look at "Little Giant" pumps. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
What was that oil additive you recommended?
Hey Scott, thanks for the question. The ZDDP additive I used in the video is made by Engine Pro, but there are many widely available ZDDP additives that are the same/similar. It's good for protecting our flat tappet cams but it's use was decreased due to damaging catalytic converters and the proliferation of roller cams. I hope this helps, thanks for watching!
20:36 beautiful
Thanks Bearded G, that was a big moment for me. I've wanted to drive a VW to the beach for a long time. Dweezil is next. Thanks for watching!
Right now as just today, I change from alternator to generator I have a 73 super beetle, I was having a lot of trouble with the wiring of the alternator, I installed a radio too, just need to wire the voltage regulator, and we'll for me it's easier.
Can't go wrong with the tried and true! I've yet to run an alternator on a VW. I could see doing it on a camper with a house battery, but gennies are easy to find and service.
In 1967 these were daily vehicles so why not today
