I had a 6’ block wall built, bright lighting installed, a coyote vest for my smallest pup, and always take pepper gel spray, a taser and an air horn with me when I take them out back. I also have cameras to track any activity; thus far I’ve had none in my backyard. I also had a 6.5’x14’ coyote-proof dog run built so they can go out when needed through a dog door. I looked into coyote rollers, but if a coyote can jump a six-foot wall anyway, I don’t see that the expense is worth it. The coyote could just hop right over without even touching it. If they were full-proof, I’d spend a few thousand more to have them installed, but it’s not so I don’t see the value with the other precautions I’m taking. Even with rollers, I’d never leave my boys out alone.
My mom lives in Sun City and one day she watched a coyote jump the fence and go grab somebody's poodle and then jump back and run off with it. Another time I was at her house and we opened up the front window curtains and there was a coyote just walking down the sidewalk. Seems like they're getting worse down there
VERY nice! Congrats on a GREAT video that addresses Sun City's coyote issues in a positive manner. Sometimes people look to outside agencies to address the issue while downplaying the steps WE can take as a community and pet owners. If you see a neighbor feeding coyotes, politely approach them. If they continue, report them. It IS illegal... and it is the single most effective action a human can take to make coyotes aggressive toward humans and pets. Again, KUDOS Carla. :)
I ALSO WANT TO BUILD A VERY LARGE KENNEL I COULD WALK INSIDE OF FOR MY NEW PUPPY SO AT NIGHT SHE WILL BE ABLE TO GO OUT OF THE DOGGY DOOR TO POTTY. I DONT THINK THE COYOTES WILL GO AFTER THE DOBERMAN BUT THEY ARE PACK ANIMALS AND THAT IS THE PROBLEM. SORRY FOR THE BIG LETTERS BUT MY VISION IS VERY BAD NOT YELLING JUST BLIND ALMOST. LOL
