Also, which software apps are you using to:
    1. Capture the scans on the iPhone 13 Pro
    2. Process the scanned point clouds on your computer?
    3. Register the different scans into one big scan
    Thanks!

About the GCPs, we've now added support for the viDoc RTK, it's a much cheaper solution to existing devices, and you can measure GCPs in the app. Not only that, we also use it during capture to get much better initial results

It is really awesome to see this type of video. I still remember the forums back in 2020 full a surveyors excited and asking if it will be possible to measure accurate and make workflows using just your iPhone’s lidar. The answer was yes and obviously it is the same proven workflow we had for years with conventional equipment. I really hope we get to the point where surveying equipment will be much more accesible ($$$).

I'm a drone mapper, and you can do that with an RTK PPK drone such as the autel evo 2 pro RTK. It's pretty great at creating ground control points with quite remarkable accuracy and giving coordinates outside of the control points. At 6:44 when you talk about making layers, is the iPhone good enough to distinguish between ground and ground cover? If I could create a micro elevation of the soil under my lawn and garden that would be very helpful for fixing a drainage problem. I'm thinking of resolution to 1/4-inch. Would more passes with the iPhone give better resolution. Criss-cross patterns? Spiral patterns?

I’m an architect and I use Revit 3D software for my design work. I’ve done about ten projects using a (expensive) Faro scanner and can import the point cloud using Autodesk’s Recap software.
How can the iPhone’s scans be imported into Revit? That would be a real gamer-changer!

    • @CreateHubTips
      @CreateHubTips Рік тому +1

If you use Autodesk flow of work it should be an ease. All point clouds can be exported in .laz and you can import .laz files into recap. Maybe more relevant questions would be if accuracy and georeferencing is important to you?. For real projects accuracy are often a must and iPhones do not have the accuracy you need for that. Then you have a project that is not really attached to any coordinate systems unless you establish ground control points and measure them physically (that requires a gnss receiver). I would definitely give this a go for preliminary sketches/ideas, preliminary existing conditions that do not require accuracy. I would concentrate my efforts on small projects since the iPhone can only do so much on bigger sites (larger files tend to be a problem).

This type of work needs to be done at centimeter level accuracy but some surveyors are abusing the fast and easy yet not accurate technology like this and producing legal documents.

I haven't realize the iPhone was using gnss with Lidar, which means that with an external simple rtk receiver we could possibly achieve stunning results while highly reducing drift... I don't know how those apps work but they clearly use some kind of sensor fusion algorithm between lidar odometry and gnss... They're really one tiny step away from getting awesome results with the aid of an external device. Real-time would be a little bit trickier but post processing would definitely be easy. There's probably no market for that for anyone to get their hands on it though.
Thanks for the test, it's always interesting anyway.

In this area topo is pronounced toe-po when used as just topo. When topographical is used it's top-o-graphical. Hearing it pronounced toe-po-graphical is driving me crazy. (But everyone just calls it toe-po most of the time.)
A guy at work would use top-o for the plan old topo (not the full topographical). My bother-in-law (we work together) kept telling him, "It's toe-po. Stop saying top-o." It drove him crazy. I thought it was funny. (Not my brother-in-law telling him over & over. Just the guy not even thinking about saying it any differently. I would have tried a few times then let him say it how he wasted. The guy didn't listen to a lot of things & that was one of them. He never acknowledged ever hearing it.)
He keep calling Surveyors asking for a Top-o that I've known for years & I've never heard a single one of them say anything but toe-po, unless they use the the whole thing with "graphical" on the end. Before that job I worked for a couple of those surveyors as party chief & I did a good many topos (toe-po/tow-po) not one single person ever pronounced topo as top-o.
Hearing the full topographical pronounced toe-po-graphical I realize the guy at work saying top-o must have really drove my brother-in-law nuts.
But, that's how we say it around my area.
    Also...
...Cool video on all that. Thanks for sharing it. That's one thing I wish Samsung had stuck with (& used better tech than they did when they used similar tech). It's something I find myself needing more & more. (Well beoynd what you can get on any Apple product, but could use it to the level that's found I'm their products. But, I am surprised at the accuracy they manage to get without it & I'm also curious as to how that is done and also how far it could be taken.)
