Loved the video! As a GIS person with the 13 pro I was excited to get a general model of my yard using LiDAR. Great to hear from a surveying prospective
It is really awesome to see this type of video. I still remember the forums back in 2020 full a surveyors excited and asking if it will be possible to measure accurate and make workflows using just your iPhone’s lidar. The answer was yes and obviously it is the same proven workflow we had for years with conventional equipment. I really hope we get to the point where surveying equipment will be much more accesible ($$$).
Very nice About the GCPs, we've now added support for the viDoc RTK, it's a much cheaper solution to existing devices, and you can measure GCPs in the app. Not only that, we also use it during capture to get much better initial results
Also, which software apps are you using to: 1. Capture the scans on the iPhone 13 Pro 2. Process the scanned point clouds on your computer? 3. Register the different scans into one big scan Thanks!
What is the app you are using on the iPhone? I have android, but this ability is intriguing. I am the GPS machine control model builder and topo guy at my company and if I could get stock pile quantities with an iPhone over physically taking every shot with gps, this could be beneficial.
hey Rami, i have a question. How accurate is the gnss app and rtk rover integrated as one compared to a normal base station and rover set up? I saw in your video you use the gnss app and rtk rover to collect ground control points, but i always wondered how precise is that set up, is it similar to the leica gs18I tilt compensation rtk rover?
At 6:44 when you talk about making layers, is the iPhone good enough to distinguish between ground and ground cover? If I could create a micro elevation of the soil under my lawn and garden that would be very helpful for fixing a drainage problem. I'm thinking of resolution to 1/4-inch. Would more passes with the iPhone give better resolution. Criss-cross patterns? Spiral patterns?
HYD Spindle is movable, use a bonnet bolt on the HYD. then call out which bolt is used for the benchmark! Just a tip. I sometimes use a chisel to make an XCUT in the bonnet bolt, but DPW is not a fan of this.
Hi sir hope you’re doing great !! I just want to know, that is there any course which is related to the use of lidar technology in building construction? On Coursera or on any other platform, or you can teach us like surveying, levelling, etc. Of roads and building by using iPhone 15 pro. That would be very helpful sir. Thanks for giving me your precious time!!
Hi Tamini. wich do you prefer? Iphone or Ipad, when we need better precision in industrial work? which scanner device to attach to Apple do you recommend? can you help me with a good device for this that does not cost so much
You have some pretty cool videos. Wondering how a noob like me can use some of what you show to practical use. I'm looking to buy some land and many of the plots are not level. I don't want to replace having a proper survey but might want to eliminate some properties from my search. So, how can I use the lidar of my iPhone to let me know the elevations I may have across different areas of my property? Definitely not buying AutoCad.
iPhone 13 Pro, but you can use any iPhone with a LiDAR Sensor. I used the Pix4Dcatch app. And no, you simply hit the shutter button once and it begins collecting data.
Very good technology. Im cartographer tecnician. I am very happy that the technology has advanced so much. With this technology, GPS and many other measuring devices can be history. It would be great if there is a feature to give coordinates to the area measured with the camera.
I'm a drone mapper, and you can do that with an RTK PPK drone such as the autel evo 2 pro RTK. It's pretty great at creating ground control points with quite remarkable accuracy and giving coordinates outside of the control points. Often within a few cm 🤙 pretty expensive setup and software though
Rami greetings from Peru, I would like to know if you know if the lidar of the iphon was tested in a closed environment such as a salon to know if it also registers it. Thank you
What about Vidoc pix4d? The rtk antena to use with iPhone lidar? Do you know a cheaper vidoc antena or rtk phone solution? 3d scanner app just got updated with many new features!
Awesome video. This is great information... my application would be for metal detecting if like regular Lidar it could spot areas that used to have buildings on them. I'd also like to get a new drone that has this built in.
Rami, thanks for sharing your videos, they are amazing. I wonder if the sensor is able for mapping topographic surfaces in shallow water (1-2 feet for example) from above the surface, of course. Have you tested it already?
hey tamimi. can you make a video about the dji phantom 4 pro rtk drone connected to the cors station by the ppk method. then the photos from the drone already have global coordinates. do comparison correction if not tied to gcp
I love this video, I am just curious if any other phone can be used like this. I have been a fan of Samsung always, the RTK surveys we do seem to go a lot smoother whenever I am running a hotspot off of my Samsung vs my coworkers Iphone. I am due for an upgrade and would love to go for the note 10 or the s20 plus because they may have similar 3d modeling abilities. Is an attempt at a Topographic survey like this only possible with an iphone or would one of the android models be capable of this as well?
Can I do an accurate merge of the scanning projects into one with out GCP? Just with the iphone and perhaps using a DJI gimbal? Great content mate! Greetings from Paraguay!!
Rami, great work, thank you! I am curious if you were to mount the phone to say a camera tripod and do the scans from fixed points. If it would improve the data. This would mean the data relied less on the IMU to keep track of all erratic movements. Thoughts?
I'm in the surveying business and this technology is both good and bad, i have ran into surveyors in new york that clearly use technology like this and when we go back to the subject property the client is wondering why the results are so different. This type of work needs to be done at centimeter level accuracy but some surveyors are abusing the fast and easy yet not accurate technology like this and producing legal documents.
Is it legal for a person who is not a licensed surveyor to provide data to a surveyor? I'm in NC, which has statutes on the subject if that makes any difference. Your content is great at any rate.
Rami: You can make a topo survey with just an iphone! Also Rami: uses a GNSS receiver for control points😂 I love this channel. I'm learning so much. Please do tons more videos. I actually just switched to the iphone and bought the dji om 5. Totally revamping how my company does site investigation. Now I just need to get a GNSS receiver.
Thanks for the video. I’m an architect and I use Revit 3D software for my design work. I’ve done about ten projects using a (expensive) Faro scanner and can import the point cloud using Autodesk’s Recap software. How can the iPhone’s scans be imported into Revit? That would be a real gamer-changer!
If you use Autodesk flow of work it should be an ease. All point clouds can be exported in .laz and you can import .laz files into recap. Maybe more relevant questions would be if accuracy and georeferencing is important to you?. For real projects accuracy are often a must and iPhones do not have the accuracy you need for that. Then you have a project that is not really attached to any coordinate systems unless you establish ground control points and measure them physically (that requires a gnss receiver). I would definitely give this a go for preliminary sketches/ideas, preliminary existing conditions that do not require accuracy. I would concentrate my efforts on small projects since the iPhone can only do so much on bigger sites (larger files tend to be a problem).
Hey @Rami Tamimi I have a question for you... Using the iPhone LiDAR can we measure the volume of a big boulder??? If we can please make video about it please.
@@RamiTamimi everything looks better in feet 🤣 I haven't realize the iPhone was using gnss with Lidar, which means that with an external simple rtk receiver we could possibly achieve stunning results while highly reducing drift... I don't know how those apps work but they clearly use some kind of sensor fusion algorithm between lidar odometry and gnss... They're really one tiny step away from getting awesome results with the aid of an external device. Real-time would be a little bit trickier but post processing would definitely be easy. There's probably no market for that for anyone to get their hands on it though. Thanks for the test, it's always interesting anyway.
The fact that you give out that Information for free is just amazing. Thank you!

Cool. May I know what app were you using to scan to produce the point cloud?

It's amazing this tech is so readily available. I feel bad for not buying an iPad with LiDAR when they first came out!
Very nice

Was wondering the same thing regarding the phone application.
Absolutely amazing what technology can do. Will be interesting to see how surveying evolves over the next decade. Really neat video!
You and me both! Thanks for the kind words.
Very informative. Which scanning application have u used for scanning?
Mind blown. How cool is this. Thanks Rami for putting this together
Awesome video Rami, you are seeking answers for questions a lot of people have!
Hello Rami, pretty cool job you did there. One question..which app are you using for capturing the point cloud?
Hi Rami , could you share with us the app. that used in iphone for scanning?
BRO! Wow, nothing for the average Joe\Jane! Lol. It was fun to watch, you're content was fire!

For the scanning I used Pix4dCatch, and for the GNSS I used Emlid Reachview 3
@@RamiTamimi hi! I can’t work with those apps. Could you please show us how to.
Excelente aporte.
Honestly even having the scans would help tremendously with drafting surveys done in the field.

Hi, thanks for the practical examples. Always interesting. Can you tell me what APP you used for scanning?
of course no problem. Pix4dCatch
If you had more GCP, over lapping scans, would that increase the accuracy?
Of course, in the future videos I am going to try increasing the accuracy of the project.
