This is exactly what I need for our 34 acres of West Virginia.
I need to build logging roads to the very top of the mountain that are no more than 10% grade so they can later be safely used for side by sides/ATV use later (after logging)
Our mountain is very steep but this would tell me where is best for logging roads.
    Awesome video.

    1. What is the maximum flight time of the drone?
    2. How accurate are the measurements taken by the drone?
    3. What is the maximum range or coverage area for a single flight?
    4. Is the drone capable of transmitting and analyzing data in real time?
    5. What types of sensors and cameras are equipped on the drone?

One topic I'd actually be quite interested in - though it may be too personal - is how you got into it all.
What formal qualifications did you need?
Did you start out with all that expensive equipment, including the LiDAR, or with a simpler drone and then gradually worked your way up as you started making money?
Would be interesting to hear what you consider the "minimum starting position", both in terms of equipment and qualifications. Thanks!

    • @IndianaDrones

    • @IndianaDrones
      @IndianaDrones  3 роки тому +1

Hey Drew! Yeah we do this by uploading a both the GCP in the site coordinate system and the corresponding point on the LiDAR dataset. We need at least 4 pts to compute the false northing/easting and scale factor. We also have a way to project into grid then manually enter in the false northing/easting and scale.

That said, I agree with @Patryc. The name of the video is "What is LiDAR Drone Surveying", and the gentleman hosting the video says LiDAR about twenty times, but doesn't once define what LiDAR is (Light Detection And Ranging, or Laser Imaging Detection And Ranging if it is spelled LIDAR). Great Video... you really break it down well... quick question... I'm in the final stages of my licensing, and would like to open my own business... how much did your total set up cost.... drone, rover, base...etc. I know it wasn't cheap...

you're living my dream man!! I'm in talks with a land survey team to join them as a basic crew member, hopefully that will give me the experience along with my part 107 to get me closer to realization. Do you have any other pointers for someone starting out in the industry?

    Vey well explained video.
We work on Government projects in India related to urban planning and topographical survey is usually a start point at it. I was always skeptical about drone survey as they may not be cover the physical attributes like ravines, temples, temporary shed, etc below the tree canopies. Hence we are used to combining the Drone survey with Total station survey. But as you said LIDAR is able to offset the problem of tree canopy by mapping the physical attributes below it, makes it really interesting.
Can you mention what would be the comparative cost of performing a Total Station vs. LIDAR vs. Aerial +Total station, some hint like is it three time or fours times of Total station ?

As others have mentioned in your videos, this is really really great information that I can't find anywhere else. Keep it up!
One question/request I would have is to know your drone fleet and software setup. For example I am very curious about the laptop you use, is it a System 70 type machine? Either way, I'm looking forward to the content you continue to create!

Hey Mo! It is a system 76! But it is a bit overkill. We needed this laptop for a deep learning A.I. project I was leading. One of the teammates really wanted to deploy all the models in real time. But now we figured out how to do this using a little computer the size of a credit card

Thanks for the great informational video. This is a great first video for creating interest in the field of Surveying. The tech available these days is amazing compared to when I graduated with my degree in 1983 from PSU. I'm going to use this with generating interest in the field of surveying among high school kids. We are a dying profession-the average age of the professional surveyor in US is somewhere in the upper 50's which says we are aging out.

Great video.. I have been dabbling with drones and the related technology for LIDAR, SONAR, autonomous flight etc for fixed wing and hex/quad copters for a while now simply because I find the technology fascinating BUT that has led me to realize there is so much potential in this space and that will only continue to grow as time goes on. In your case or experience what formal certifications, degrees etc are required and/or common as a pre-requisite to performing this kind of paid work?
