6,000' Runway + No Air Traffic Control + Bahamian Seafood | Airline Pilot Adventures, Island Style

- Think there's no adventure in being a regional airline pilot? Flying into the North Eleuthera Island Airport (MYEH) in the Bahamas looks a lot different than pretty much every airport back in the USA. We operate fully VFR in/out of MYEH, since there's no air traffic control or radar coverage. Plus, its single runway is only 6,000 feet long with no visual approach guidance from a PAPI or VASI. It's the perfect spot to refine your visual and hand-flying skills. The terminal has just one room, an outdoor boarding lounge, and no jetbridges. Being one of the most stunning Caribbean Islands, North Eleuthera is also very busy. You have to pay close attention to the uncontrolled CTAF (airport traffic) frequency to keep tabs on the location of multiple general aviation, airline, and charter flights into the airport.
Clear communication is critical while flying into this busy island. I've been flying with a Bose Aviation headset since I was a student pilot, and can't recommend it enough... Especially for days just like this, when tuning out the noise around you makes it possible to hear important radio calls from other traffic in the pattern. It's a purchase you'll use for decades to come. Click here to fly with Bose Aviation: www.swaynemartin.com/my-favor...
Our awesome ground agents will even order fresh seafood for our flight crews! Long story short, I love flying into places like North Eleuthera. It's a treat getting to fly into such a beautiful island and experience the challenge of operating an airline jet into a largely general aviation airport. Thank you to the ground crew in ELH for making our short turns into your amazing home so memorable!

The airline industry is finally recovering with hiring across the board! What do you want to learn about becoming an airline pilot?
Sooo I want to become a pilot and I want to know which all courses to take and what all subjects to study. So pls make a video on how to become a pilot after 12th
hey swayne! i would love to learn the process after university. i will be starting my freshman year at the ohio state university this fall and i have a private pilot certificate. i want to know how to transition from instructor to airlines
For me personally i am wondering if i would enjoy flying wide body international, or narrow body regional when i get to that position. I understand you dont have a ton of experience with wide body flying but i think that would be a very neat video.
@@wj8003 that's what I said
I would really like to understand the complex process of financing my dream career. Like you, I am currently enrolled at UND as a freshman, but still don’t understand the financial side of collegiate aviation, and debt after school. Any feedback is much appreciated.
This is the difference between a pilot with a UA-cam channel and a cinematographer with a pilot's license. Beautiful, inspiring content as always.
Thanks Mike!
Crazy how I started watching these videos as a zero-time student pilot. I am now a brand-new private pilot (about a month since the checkride), watching the world reopen. So cool how quickly things are getting back to normal. Let’s hope it continues. These videos bring me back to the olden days.
Right?! I'm so happy to see things getting back to normal.
Nothing much is really changing over here in the UK. Glad to see stuff moving in the US though!
Same, I started to follow him as a Law student with zero flight time, 3 years later I'm frozen ATPL and I passed my instrument rating on multi engine aircraft 2 days ago ☺️
The world is definitely not getting back to normal, look at the rest of the world outside of the United States.. global passenger numbers are disastrously low, years from how they were. Spare a thought for the millions working in the global travel industry who are still in a serious way.
Greetings from Bimini Island. My country is beautiful🇧🇸😍
Hello there Swayne!
I’ve watched your videos from the time you first joined Envoy, and your articulate the real world of flying, and especially regional flying as well .
I especially like seeing a true picture painted by you to aspiring pilots.
I just retired from Envoy in May of 2020, having flown there for 31 years, flying the 145 for just under 11,000 hours on it, and retiring on the E175, and I enjoyed every minute of it!
The way you explain not just the flying end as a pilot, but also how you blend in the jobs of all the support team members at Envoy is especially refreshing.
Take care and I look forward to your next video.
Your videos are slick and professionally done, I know that Envoy has a very good PR presence in helping you make these informative videos, and I’m just disappointed that I wasn’t able to fly with you before my mandatory retirement at age 65.
Regards
Capt Larry Robinson/Retired
Nice video mate! Good to see the industry is starting to recover!
WE NEEDED THIS SWAYNE!!! THANK YOU
YES, very well done. great flow, sound and video quality. not only is Swayne an FO, he's a pro video editor. keep up the good work.
Hey Swayne. I’m a retired 777 Captain and I did a video in the 80’s called A 747 Pilots Eye View as i was a People Express Captain on it back then. (Some people have put it on Utube) Not nearly as good as yours, but the first ever airline cockpit video (that became a SPORTYS VHS best seller) and ignited a path that thousands of utubers have followed in my footsteps since then with cockpit videos. (Plus i inspired and I am aware of helping a dozen people become airline pilots) I have a personal interest in Eleuthera, and I’m writing a screenplay about the abandoned secret military base on the island. (for real) Keep the blue side up and good luck in your career. Paul Havis.
Thank you Paul! I’ll check it out
Very cool Envoy is letting in more of the cockpit content. It's just good PR for them. They are going to be hiring a lot of pilots soon, so I hope they keep this up with you. Nice work as always Swayne
Glad you love my country and the fritters! I'm learning things I never knew about the airport.
Enjoy your video, Eleuthera was one of my first Bahama flights in a Cherokee 180 back in 1977 shortly after I got my pilots license. Now in 2021 I’ve stopped flying not for medical reasons. I’ve owned and flown in Aerostar since 1990 but this year I couldn’t buy any insurance. At 80 nobody wants to ensure you.Your video brought back pleasant memories, you look like you have at least 50 years of lying in front of you enjoy it all.
50 years of lying? What is he, a lawyer? Lol
All of sudden, I have this craving for conch fritters 😋
Love that you have including some of your radio calls in a CTAF environment.
Keep it up you’ve inspired me a lot to continue my flight training ever since your flight in Hawaii
Swayne Martin back with those awesome audio and visual vibes 7:22
Used to maintain that Delta CRJ900 N134EV. Good to see it still flying.
I plan on flying for Endeavor Air and it's cool to see how they go to North Eleuthera island, I'll likely be flying into this airport in a few years just like how Swayne is now.
The 1900c in the front of your J145 in eleuthera is operated by southern Air.I am a airplane technician for that company back here in Nassau Bahamas.
When I saw that this was uploaded 6 minutes ago, I dropped everything and clicked! Thanks Swayne and I hope everyone enjoys their summer!
Fantastic video as always Swayne! Your editing is next to none! A true inspiration to any aspiring aviator, Keep it up :)
Thank you!
Always excited to see a new video from this channel!
I've watched your videos off and on, but really enjoyed you including more things like the RNAV approach plate, showing how there's no PAPI/VASI, and the different VFR/IFR rules for the area. A good mix of entertainment (like seeing the conch fritters/travel) and knowledge of aviation.
Stunning video as always! Love the Captain!
Finally a new video, I've been waiting for this!!!!! Greetings from South Africa!
Flew there in April, loved it!
Great video, Swayne! I just love the working relationship you have with your Captain and FA ! It has to make working together so much easier, fun and enjoyable! 😀
Love this video, keep up the great work . Thanks for making my day brighter! I want to be like you when I'm older! You inspired me to become an airline pilot and taught me alot!
The wait is OVERR!!!! I've been waiting endlessly for your next upload Swayne, now I'm gonna watch it with headphones on for the best quality😀😎. Well done Swayne, you're doing very well. Next level production skills🔥🔥
That's why it takes so long! I plan my videos thoroughly, because of that I have a limited amout I can produce.
@@SwayneMartinPilot Hmmm....that makes a lot of sense, well done!
Awesome to have an uncontrolled airport that accommodates airliners! Great watching you two fly!!
Swayne your my favorite pilot UA-camr! You make me rewatch your videos over and over again because your so cool. Your awesome man!
Thanks for watching!
@@SwayneMartinPilot No Problem! Also did you apply for just American or did you apply for other Airlines like Delta,United, and like southwest?
So happy to see you again 👍
I was excited to see you in the right seat when I boarded my flight home from ORD to LSE this morning. Keep up the good work! I hope to see you in the left seat soon!
As a controller, I love seeing videos like this. It gives us insight into what’s going on in commercial cockpits and an understanding of the workload going on. Nice vid! Thanks for sharing!

:-O 7:20. WOW. That's the shot of a lifetime!
Love your channel and your stories!
Absolutely great amazing videos brotha!
Flew in and out of N Eleuthera a few days ago. Two American and a Delta were on the ground. First time that I’ve been in there with more than one regional at a time. Had to back taxi to the first 7 exit because they had the ramp completely blocked.
I'd love to see you upload more content Swayne! I understand your personal life, work balance, making and editing videos take a long time for you to produce more videos. But hey, you always upload stuff when I watch you!
You've come so far from your college days flying the old Cessna. Thank you so much for taking us along for the ride!
Excellent video young man! Great work 💪
Working like must be a dream. Thanks to share all of this.
Yesss :D I always look forward to your videos. Your my favourite channel.

A few times :) Thanks for watching!

Great video! I'm there quite often in a Lear 60. Spot on with this video. Maybe I'll see ya there some day!
This was a beautiful video to watch as an Eleutheran! I'm not a fan of flying, but watching the video and listening to you do your thing is kind of calming.
Swayne, great video!
Love to see your vlogs 💝💝💝💝
SICK shots!
Very informative as always, I love that 3 person aircrew… never break that up. 😎
Awesome! My student pilots love your stuff
Great vlog as always! You ARE a true proffesional film maker my friend! Keep up the good work. Greetings from Norway!
ELH is all I’ve done this month! DHD to MIA and ELH turn after turn. Beautiful flying and by far one of the best ground crews in our system.
Good times indeed! Shout out to the MQ fAAmily! :)
Nice video . Always interesting and never boring . 😃 🙂
Another good one! Loved it!
Thanks Kevin!
Awesome, bro!
Such an amazing video! You inspire me so much to follow my dream of becoming an airline pilot!
I always love watching your videos. They are so professional and such an inspiration. I am a fleet service clerk for envoy at ORD right now and I am going to school this fall to become an airline pilot. Again thank you for the awesome videos and keep up the outstanding work.
Are you going to keep the job during training?
@@THEFAAL1 unfortunately I cannot because my school is not close enough to the airport. I hope to come back in the summers though because it is an amazing job. There are people that go to school and come to work though as long as they can do both with there time
@@planehub3146 do you know if your seniority remains with the company till you’re ready to apply to be a pilot
@@THEFAAL1 that is a great question! If I stayed with the company until I became a pilot with them I believe I would keep my base seniority however I would lose my job seniority.
Cool to hear radios incorporated into your video!
Yes! This is awesome! Thank you!!!
Glad you liked it!
Flew into MYEH about 5 years ago in my T206. Had to go around the first time because of an initial bounce (was really heavy) that would have potentially ended badly. Went around and landed nicely. The island is great and the water is simply amazing! Can't wait to go back!
You are amazing. God bless you and your coworkers 😇😇😇
