- Urgent government action is needed to boost resilience in extremely warm weather amid warnings that up to 10,000 people year in the UK could die as a result of heatwaves, MPs have said.
The increasing frequency and severity of such events are set to have a profound impact on public finances as well as health, with heatwaves potentially costing the economy about £60 billion a year, according to a report by the Environmental Audit Committee.
The committee’s Conservative chair, Philip Dunne, suggested the Government is not responding quickly enough to the evidence despite action on heatwave mitigation being a “no-brainer”.

When that heatwave hit the kids in the playground were challenging one another who could stand on the asphalt for the longest😅and even the girls including myself were running around bare chested, the teachers allowed us because it was that hot lol.

The true cost of net zero has never been explained to the public. Tucked away in a recent budget was £20 billion for carbon capture, equating to approx £1000 per uk household. Money many could have done with to get through the winter. That is a mere tip of the waste of money. I'm sure that guy is old enough to remember the summer of 76. I know that I am, and surprisingly, I'm still here to remember it. Was the heatwave of 1976 a traumatic experience? No! I spent every day out on my bike because it wasn't chucking it down, for a change! Back then, you made the most of what you’ve got rather than whinging about it.
I don't like very hot weather so that's why I'm glad I live in the UK because there's so little of it.
I must be super human able to live in Florida for 40 years in all this heat. My brothers live in Arizona with temps over 100 degrees F for 100 days a year.
No it is just your thing, you have no negatives from it obviously, or not many, and enjoy hot weather!
For me it is a misery, and i feel poorly, and sweat, and feel sick, i love the cold weather, frosty mornings fresh air, hardly ever feel the cold, i love it, i thrive in the winter, does not make me super human, it is what suits me, and what i need to be happy!

Some of us who grew up in the Arizona desert remember swamp coolers before air conditioning.
All I know is that when the internal temperature of the body drops to 80 degrees, you get sleepy and die. Never heard the converse with heat. People have survived high temperatures. Lived in the deserts for thousands of years. Debunked 😂

More people die in winter than in summer. In summer, the number of deaths goes down, but the average weight goes up. Little old men and women die in winter, fat people die in summer. If the number of summer deaths increases, is that because of climate change or because of increasing obesity?
I notice places with seasons the people living there adjust to the weather - winter clothes, spring clothes, summer clothes, autumn clothes . They even adjust their homes - opened windows, closed windows, heat on, heat off, air conditioning on air conditioning off.

The figures from official sources show that even in hot countries it’s the cold that kills - and by quite a margin. It’s also a nonsense in the sense that about 16 million British people a year fly to hot countries to go on holiday and about a million (mainly pensioners) have moved homes there.

I'm in central Louisiana. Our summers run for weeks on end up to about 110 degrees F. We never hear of people dying. Even the poor folks, like me, have AC. Communities open cooling centers during the worse heat.
I hope we do get more hot days - it'll give me justification to get air-con installed in my house.

In 2000 my wife and I went on safari in East Africa. We stayed in hotels out in the wilds with limited electricity. The rooms were nice and cool in the heat of the day, why? They were built so that there was a through breeze which blew through the rooms, we slept well afternoons and nights.
2019 we went to Tromso, see the Northern lights we were really grateful for fossil fuel heating.

I used to live and work in 35 + degrees, not once did I hear of anyone dying.
I know lots of people who seek the sun every year to climates far warmer than this and not one of them has come back dead or even saying “I nearly died”. We thrive on sunlight and warmth.
I`m sick of them quoting 40 C as the deadly number. As a child living in the north of England I remember the tar melting on the roads. Last year I decided to find out at what temp tar started melting and it`s 50 C, and there me and my mates where using lolly sticks to collect the tar and make a mess on the pavement that we called pictures.
Trying to distract away from the fact that a lot of people can't afford to put the heating on, including me.

A smart guy (who worked for NASA) said, a lot of the so-called green alternatives such as solar are actually helping toward the green issue. I.E global warming. As in summer the solar panels heat up the surrounding area and in winter cool the area, so causing more issues. (or words to that effect).
I don't think Dale even holds a graduate degree in meteorology. He wants the Tories out, what does that tell you?

This is so stupid. The hottest in the uk is maybe 30 ish for a couple of days. Here in spain we can have up to 40 deq for 2 months or more. People come here in the summer for this heat
