man -- it would have taken me ages to figure out that application of the comb filter on my own. completely epic! i learned so much following along with this and recreating the groove along with you. at some point personal taste kicked in and i took a detour and ended up with something entirely different. thank you James! fantastic video mate.
I really like the on the fly experimentations, you pick up the most from these. To figure out the general functions isn't too hard. But also especially for someone new to this like me it helps to get inspired!
Was an unexpected upgrade addition for sure! Suppose it needs it now with possibility of 16 tracks and kits etc. I’m happy Elektron actually did a proper mk2 instead of changing a faceplate, adding a name generator and changing minimal things 🍻
Great tutorial/review/fuckabout. Can you tell me the theory behind saving those patterns all the time? For recall later? Do you move onto a different pattern number after saving them? cheers
Hey yeah I save as usual, so save all kits and patterns and presets on the hardware, then in Ableton I save each preset in its rack, for EQ, distortions etc. Those individual saves are backup reference only and then the main save for Ableton is actually one track max for live device called variations, I save a global preset, name it and make a midi clip for it to be triggered via a midi track on Digitakt. In my other videos I go over this but will make a deeper video soon
@@jamesorvis_mixhackers Ya lost me a bit there. I'll watch the video when you make it. I never really used the pattern save section of the settings menu. didn't figure out a reason to really......
Yeah it’s a bit long winded to explain in text. I was talking about patterns on all machines, on Digitakt 1&2 you save pattern data, there’s no need to save sounds and kits but on the Digitakt 2 I have started to save the kit also as backup. But yeah, name the pattern, save it, move to next pattern and either extend the previous song to have more pattern variations or start a completely new kit/pattern
I dont see anyone talking about this but I believe the DT2 now has parity with the Syntakt in the sound setup menu where you can set the degree to which like 4 different parameters will be modulated by the pitch controller, the breathe controller, or by velocity - which is basically like having a macro knob/s. Its tits, and I'm pretty sure I was not just hallucinating when I saw that.
Your definitely not hallucinating I’ve been going deep into it today making massive set macros via bridge 6, two crossfader a controlling all machines and macros it’s wild. Will do a video this week
You've mentioned that you will copy project into your live set if it's good. How can you copy patterns from project to project? Thanks for cool video!(:
Exellent video !!! and yep as a owner of syntakt , the ability to save midi presets and rename parametters was my first 'wtf moment on syntakt because tjose weren't implemented !! MAy i ask where did you got those angled cables ?
Hey James, got a question about migrating to DT2: Did you overwrite anything on the DT2 when transferring projects/samples or just add to what's there? Thanks!
Just adds to what’s there, all that was there was the stock sounds and one project that comes with factory unit. Using transfer you get to decide where you place project slots
I’m not sure!! But that is a fantastic idea, kinda like the octatracks comb filter eh! I’m sure it’s possible, maybe it’s a case of finding out what each position is for the notes. Be good if they updated it to have labels for notes
@@jamesorvis_mixhackers It has filter key track. If they implemented it properly you should be able to track pitch the same way you play samples chromatically. Like people do with vital and other vsts that have comb filters.
Hey!! Good news!!! Just tested and yes it works perfectly 🙏 I added 100% key track to comb filter and if you just send a short burst of a sample to trigger it you can play the comb filter like a synth 🏌️♂️
Longer ones can be sourced, I think Ernie balls go up to 128cm, and there are some long midi. Yeah not long compared to usual 1,2-5 metre cables. My soundcard is directly underneath the top row of machines, Syntakt, bridge 6, Typhon etc. all contained inside the pedal board
@@jamesorvis_mixhackers I returned my DT2 - the crippled transfer rates and endless import crashing was the limit for me. They need to do some serious work. It's not acceptable in 2024
I heard about all this on Elektronauts, luckily I haven’t hit that crash yet as I just uploaded what was on my dt1 and it went on ok. I won’t be transferring anything else on it until they fix that, you are right there is some pretty heavy bugs for a machine that costs 900 but these always get ironed out and I’m sure there will be an update soon. If u come back to it in a year it should be solid
Currently filming the Digitakt course but this is definitely on the cards. I’m going to make some packs that are not just samples but also contain parameter data and performance macros as well, so il be offering samples, presets and kit packs 🙏 check my website for sample packs, I have a couple that you can load onto the Digitakt 2 jamesorvis.com
@@jamesorvis_mixhackers thanks mate. Nobody mentions it in any video that I can find. Basically wondering if I could run my octatrack's audio through it.
Great! You're probably the only person doing tutorials around Uk Bass genre on digitakt. Keep doing!

Thanks 🙏 Always aiming to clash my fav sounds from breaks, electro, techno etc
Perfect. That comb filter does not disappoint ;-)
I think we all be hammering that comb filter for sure!

Great to hear! Comb filter is so much fun eh! I’m sure there is much more to discover with it too
One of the best elektron tutorials ive seen!
Good lord! I just got my Digitakt on Tuesday and I can’t wait to test it out this weekend.
Hope you enjoy it!
Great watch!
Looking forward to the Digi II Masterclass.. 🆒😎

Nice punky beat to start things off, this is going to be a good ride

Very cool presentation. I loved the knowladge of the DT2 with this style. Thanks for sharing!

So cool you just get excited by playing with ! You got me on this one 😅!!! Thanks buddy
No worries! I always do when it’s off the cuff

Does key tracking on the comb filter allow it to be sequenced chromatically? If so it opens the door for cool physical modeling sound design.

Rockboard flax cables and Ernie ball flat patch cables, can be found here: thmn.to/thocf/ndngqvdu4l

Overbridge is working?
No Overbridge yet
is there audio over usb yet? Or do we have to wait for Over Bridge implementation?

I was interested to see when you brought in the compressor all the effects almost disappeared. I found exactly the same thing.

Yes. See fig at p15. And search for "external mixer".
