Played this game for the first time in decades when I was sick with COVID. It is very grindy but I had a real blast reliving the Yugioh of my childhood with my adult brain and helped me get through being super sick.
You know, Joey really would make a good player character for one of these old-school Yu-Gi-Oh! games considering he uses a lot of random stuff in both the source material and the games just like a player scratching for cards to get by.
Crazy how foundational this game was for future ones. Clearly made on the same engine used for the other world championship games. Introduced the relationship system tag force, and even the honored tradition of tag force games forgetting to censor character's boobs.
what the hell happened to humanity in the last 20 or so years i will never understand, i grew up in a time where the first tomb raider was all the rage, i was a teen full of testosterone at the time horny all the time but for some reason, i never noticed anything hot about Lara Croft or for that matter, boobs in ygo cards, i play the game since it came out and would firs notice boobs as such in 2016 when a testing partner brought up censorship, dont get me wrong, i loved the artworks in ygo big time, the oldschool ones even more, and really paid attention to them when i was looking at new cards and artworks were super important to me for liking and playing a specific deck, if it did not have most of the cards with artworks i liked i would not play it, but for some reason, not me not the 3 dudes that started along with me to play the game not any subsequent player for 10 years never mentioned boobies in card artworks....
@@weedhigh2564 I was talking about Mai's bust not any of the cards. 4kids shrunk her and later characters' breasts in their dub because they wanted to market to a younger audience, and in this game they didnt censor it for consistency. This is also a thing in the tagforce games, namely with Aki in the 5Ds ones. Also only reason you dont remember anything like this from yugioh in the card game is probably because it was also censored up until few years ago. They only continue to censor cards that already were for consistency, like most of the Harpie Ladies are all pretty much naked but were censored to look like they have body suits. Theres also Dark Magician Girl's big boobs which are consistently deminished.
@@CatManThreeWell, that's the majority of the censors for sure, but cards DO still get "censored"- usually in such minor ways that it's shocking they did it and anyone even noticed. The Exosisters (or w/e the military girl archetype was called) has their colors changed to be less militaristic and more cartoony. Fairy Tail - Snow had her Colosseum changed to not be too similar to Disney's Snow White iirc. Cards as recent as the Tearlaments still get small outfit adjustments, lengthening skirts, shorts, adding more clothing to the stomach, etc. It's not nearly as crazy and noticeably different as in the 2000s, but it still happens, funny enough.
@@Aigis31 Damn, only case I knew out of these was Exosisters. Exosisters were recolored most likely because anything containing references to imperial japan in media gets censored for Korea, and censorship shared between Korea and the TCG. The recolors were also more or less just, brightening the already color coded outfits to look less black. Idk why theyd censor the other stuff.
I wish Konami would port old YGO games like this to the Switch or PC and price them fairly, because I'd totally pay 5-10 bucks for a lot of them. Super fun and nostalgic games!
@@Aigis31 I hgave my DS with Spirit Caller and Nightmare Troubadour stil llaying around (in fact I recently picked up the former again) and I still would play money for a port, or even better: a Remaster.

This game came to me at the right time, played it on my dsi during a long plane flight to and fro lmao. consecutive duels were so tense in this game man
Yup yup although you have to own the card in the game already before using the password to get a copy. it's fine though, I was still able to make harpies with the password system lol
I was soooo excited when I tried this on a later World Championship DS game, but NOPE, it asked for 1000 DP or something for the card I wanted the most. In real life you are better off buying used cards as opposed to packs, but in these games? Speedrunners buy packs.
9:50…. The Cynthia jumpscare 🫠, but all in all great video. I love these more in-depth reviews of the older YGO games like this: what works, what doesn’t, mechanics etc.
Funny story about this game: when I was about 6 or so my dad took me to this game shop to get my very first DS cartridge. I told my dad I wanted a Yu-Gi-Oh game (had literally never played yugioh in my life) and I pointed this one out for him to buy. It was at this moment that the owner decided to display astronomical levels of hating by calling my bluff. "Do you know what a duel is?" He asked me condescendingly. I did not. Long story short we left the game shop with a used Pokemon leafgreen cartridge lmao. That didn't stop me from getting into yugioh when I was older though Now I'm a grown man still playing Master Duel constantly raging against Tear-Ishizu and Spright lmao. In conclusion, fuck that one guy for robbing me the experienc of playing this game. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk.
That employee was lame as fuck what the hell??? It's a children's card game and it wasn't even that crazy at the time. Gatekeeping kids is so low what a dirtbag
I dont comment much but i have to say that Yugioh/3rd Strike mashup completely took me off guard and was the best thing ive seen in a while. You should release it as a seperate short video for sure
I will admit, I was one of those that thought the Vampire could make your attack your own monsters. Also had a friend that used to say Infinite Cards lets you draw as many cards as you wanted lol
I love the topics, I love the editing, I love the journey, I love the videos. Thanks for all your effort. This isn't even second monitor content, I'll just watch it straight. Stay excellent.
God, this was worth the wait. Phenomenal video of one of my favorite games. I do agree the early game is slow and difficult until you get usable cards, and it's not true goat format, but its close enough and gives you access to banned cards you could probably never get to fuck around with. No other format that I know of has the "1 forbidden card per deck" card ruling. It also has the best versions of the god cards that are about as strong as the anime versions. My advice is if you're on emulator, just go ahead and cheat to have infinite kaibapoints to buy up all the cards you need to power through the early game to the good stuff.
i wish the god cards were not so ass IRL lol. I heard cheating in the game is wonky and often messed with save files but i don't mind getting card the slow way. i thik 04 is a game worth cheating in for sure lmao
Excellent video as always. I agree this was the swan song of classic DM era games, and despite its hiccups it's a good game to go out on. Glad you decided to release it in one video as well, good fortune all around!
I missed out on this game until after I beat gx spirit caller and found out it existed both were really fun to play. Can't wait for your pkmn tcg video
This one was of the first DS games I ever got as a kid, next to Animal Crossing and Metroid Hunters. I didn't really play Yu-Gi-Oh physically, but this game was a lot of fun for me and I have a ton of fond memories of it. Your video on it, and your videos in general, are so satisfying. Thanks for all of your hard work.
Let me start off by saying this video was magnificent. You gave a thorough review, while being extremely entertaining and interesting to listen to. Stellar job/editing! And now to the nostalgia: I remember loving this game to pieces. I did get it on sale for like 16€ back then, so maybe you’re right. It wasn’t selling well. But the three cards inside were pretty sweet imo. And omg I’m so so glad I’m not the only one that thought of it having “Persona-like” mechanics in regard to the daily time management! One of my friends always gave me a lot of shit for saying that. Also, those visuals. The monsters look okay, but I swear I’m in love with the pre-rendered backgrounds. More games need to bring those back nowadays… Lastly: you actually finished the whole game honest!?!? Back then I probably wasn’t as good at Yugioh to begin with, but I was never able to get through the Big 5s in a row and the secret base with Noah. And I had cheated with the action replay to get every card in the game… I was playing stall with stuff like Bowanganian, nightmare wheel and such. But still, I just couldn’t get past it. I eventually cheated to auto-win those duels and played the last part normally. But seeing you going through it, and with my current level of knowledge about Yugioh, I almost want to give it another try. No cheats. Also, spicy tech I got from Master Duel (where I play older/wacky formats with my friends): the spell card “Acid Rain” clears Jinzo and your own Cyber Stein from the field! Because I lost so many games by leaving that liability with 700ATK around for half a turn lol Always looking forward to more of your content!
I love the back ground and character portraits in the game. I didn't have space to mention how nostalgic it is to see pre rendered backgrounds again. And the character art looks straight out of the manga. If you can find a way to make the grind shorter at the start I would recommend playing it again
Just finished the video and it was an absolute blast from start to finish! Amazing work! I can't wait for you to cover the Pokemon TCG game. Not only did I have a ton of fun with it back then, but I remember the music in it being phenomenal!
This game kicks ass. It was my first ds game cause they only had 2 games at the store i got the ds (since it was so new), and i stayed up all night playing it and hiding it under the pillow/covers. Felt amazing to use all the cool cards i saw in the anime but could never get. Amazing video my man!
Your video's are genuinely a treat! Looking forward to the pokemon video as I have never played it. Addressing 6:29, I don't blame them. The systems and engines they are using for master duel is different from that era. Translating it into the current system is possible but time consuming. Now code EVERY card in YGO and all the rulings! Not to mention developing an efficient system and engine to fetch rulings and code all the effects, man it sounds like an engineers nightmare! This is why when people mock master duel I can't help but shake my head, it's a miracle they even got it working from an engineer's POV!
With a card pool that big, they probably have to test a lot of interactions and clear out bugs before considering releasing an archetype. Plus people pay for the service so you can't risk releasing something buggy
I would have adored this game back in the day. I loved Worldwide Edition, and this game sounds even better. The only thing it's missing is bullying Mokuba for cards.
I rarely write comments but i need to props you for your videos everyone is a hit man i watch them over and over you brought me so much Entertainment and fun in the last year. I hope you can make a living or atleast Profit with your channel you deserve it.
this is MARKETING BRILLIANCE! GREAT KONAMI REPRESENTATION DUDE I FEEL U SO HARD ON HOW THEY HAVEN'T KEPT UP WITH REASONIBLE GAME SPEED OMG NOW ITS always 1tko or 50 turn loop stall for annoying the clock operators NOTHING FUN happens anymore in the game and its makin me sad =(
The good thing is that fans will aways pick up and try fixing. Play goat or edison format, since there are no new releases there can be no more breaking of the game. And contrary to what people say that it makes the game stagnant the metas aways change here and there with some experimentations.
Was expecting you to be rough on the game but I was pretty happy to know that you enjoyed it! There's something about this game that just screams charm and good (while also being really nostalgic to me) You got it all covered, the length, card pool, opponents, pretty much everything Worth my 2 hrs lol I really hope one day people can grab the best parts of each game and mold it all in one
55:04 ok this part of the video was really cool. I wasn't expect a Yugioh variation of the SF3 Thrid Strike intro, but it was pretty hype. I (and most defintely many others) appericate the effort you put in these videoes.
I loved this game as a kid and still loved it on a recent replay, the affinity system is great, it makes you feel like and important part of the world. I think the cardpool is great without making anything (besides wave motion cannon) feel overpowered. The summoning animations and sprites were really cool, it felt like the show where your monsters are actually in front of you battling, something that hasnt been captured in games since. I think unlocking packs made leveling up feel exciting, wondering what cards i could unlock and upgrade my deck with next. It's cool that certain characters decks level up with you and become more difficult as you go without becoming unfair. Idk what you mean with people giving up at mokuba, i had no problem with it even at the age of 5 or so
it's more like giving up cause it takes a while for the game to get anywhere. Also had 2 people so far confirmed they stopped playing for a bit because of untimely activations of des koala lol
I just wanted to thank you. I started replaying Capsule Monsters Colosseum with the Libra Mod because of your video and had a lot of fun. Then the nostalgia and your video led me to also start replaying Duelist of the Roses (since I enjoyed the libra mod I looked up if there was a mod for DotR and found the redux mod) , which has also been pretty fun.
9:55 My boy is SPITTING FACTS. ...It's especially weird since Tatsuya in innocent sin is one of the most expressive silent protags in gaming history. Maya just. Isn't. At all.
Maya in EP shows a lot of expressions but I feel a lot of moments would have been better if she wasn't a silent protag. especially since she was talking a storm in IS
The reason the big 5 have those decks, is that technically, it is what they played in the anime, with the deck master rule. Big 1 was the nightmare penguin, Big 2 was the Ocean Warrior, Big 4 was Machine King, and Big 5 was Jinzo, with a strategy revolving around summoning the Satellite cannon. Big 3 was Judge Man, but I dont remember how his deck worked. It is interesting that they gave them decent decks, focused around their weird gimmicks. Keep up the good work.
Such a good game I was so amazed that they had models for every single monster card in the game Nowadays they just display the cards without any models
So I'm guessing future games let you do this but by holding and pressing the a button for you to start a chain between phases with a trap card. As a kid I put a lot of hours trying to make everyone on the social list a friend. Those were the days
Played this game for the first time in decades when I was sick with COVID. It is very grindy but I had a real blast reliving the Yugioh of my childhood with my adult brain and helped me get through being super sick.
The decks you can make are very funny too, I made the gane lasts longer by running stall decks 😂
This is hands down the best Nightmare Troubadour video. The editing is brilliant. The animation at 55mins is absolutely insane.
I'm happy to do the game some justice!
Part walkthrough, part gameplay analysis, part Moment In Time meta discussion. I'm really enjoying this video I think I'll check out your other stuff
Thank you so much for enjoying the video. it means a lot to see this in the comments!
You know, Joey really would make a good player character for one of these old-school Yu-Gi-Oh! games considering he uses a lot of random stuff in both the source material and the games just like a player scratching for cards to get by.
THIS! it makes so much sense
Crazy how foundational this game was for future ones. Clearly made on the same engine used for the other world championship games. Introduced the relationship system tag force, and even the honored tradition of tag force games forgetting to censor character's boobs.
Yeah I hear this game is somewhat like spirit caller? I never played spirit caller but i can't wait to get to it and compare the 2 one day
what the hell happened to humanity in the last 20 or so years i will never understand, i grew up in a time where the first tomb raider was all the rage, i was a teen full of testosterone at the time horny all the time but for some reason, i never noticed anything hot about Lara Croft or for that matter, boobs in ygo cards, i play the game since it came out and would firs notice boobs as such in 2016 when a testing partner brought up censorship, dont get me wrong, i loved the artworks in ygo big time, the oldschool ones even more, and really paid attention to them when i was looking at new cards and artworks were super important to me for liking and playing a specific deck, if it did not have most of the cards with artworks i liked i would not play it, but for some reason, not me not the 3 dudes that started along with me to play the game not any subsequent player for 10 years never mentioned boobies in card artworks....
Having a shitty day, but this made it a whole lot better!!!!
I got you!

This, Spirit Caller and World Wide edition are unreal when it comes to portable Yu-Gi-Oh. Wish this or Spirit Caller was on Switch.
a collection of games would be peak
I wish Konami would port old YGO games like this to the Switch or PC and price them fairly, because I'd totally pay 5-10 bucks for a lot of them. Super fun and nostalgic games!
@@Aigis31 I hgave my DS with Spirit Caller and Nightmare Troubadour stil llaying around (in fact I recently picked up the former again) and I still would play money for a port, or even better: a Remaster.
You guys are not gonna believe what just got announced
@@michael13849 It's only the early GBA games so far though. Would be the era just after that. 2004-2010 that I'd be interested in.
Love this series man. It's like a chronological walkthrough of my childhood
The Third Strike recreation was hot as hell. A+
I loved the Duel Puzzles. Made for a really nice side attraction. They put a lot of effort into them. And that puzzle with the Battleguards that's a total subversion and you're supposed to do something else entirely? Genius.
I would love to talk about more of them one day honestly. there so fun!
Your knowledge of Yugioh is vast, as is the ammount of laughs your videos bring. Keep it up!
I've been around for a while in this game. I played from the start up to 2018. I still play Edison and goat and keep up with modern yugioh every now and then. I'm too deep in the property lol
The Third Strike parody intro is Godlike!
That took me a day to make so I now have a new found respect for editors making openings lmao
@@gameboylad How I wish I could make something like that in a day. Even making an amateur little video for the laughs can be a pain at times. UA-camrs truly are ascended entities.
That 3s edit was sick. Hype for the pokemon tcg vid, I've been playing it since ir got added to nso it's pretty fun
I've been eyeing the game for a while. I can't wait to start production
You got me to play Reshef and I enjoyed it.
Now i'm playing this and i'm enjoying it too, really wish the plot would actually start though.
you'll get there......Eventually lol
Fam, a lot of the Yu-Gi-Oh games you review I don't even play, but the memes and references / OST you have of other games make it so enjoyable to watch.
I try to aim for my videos to be enjoyed by almost anyone who plays games. It's more fun that way lol
I want the bit from 54:54 to 55:38 to be a separate video to just listen to.

Yo dawg, just want to say that ever since I found your channel I've been having a blast, great content as always and keep that good work going!

For someone who always keeps their record in these games a 100% win rate, needing a forced draw to progress was a nightmare to me.
There is a glitch that counts joey's losing to bakura for you so a lot of the time most people couldn't even be 100% 💀
Bro same
This game came to me at the right time, played it on my dsi during a long plane flight to and fro lmao.
consecutive duels were so tense in this game man
The consecutive duels are some of the best challenges in the game
I've seen this game a few times at a store, and never knew how it played. Glad to see someone break it down for me.
I'm convinced this game just sat on shelves
My memory of that time is vague. But I never saw that game on the stores. Had to r4 it lol
One of my favorite YGO videogame. I remember getting this game because you could get 3 cards with it
Yeah and as a kid I really liked silent magician. She looked so cool to me
this game was crazy cause you can put in the numbers from the actual cards and then have them in the game itself
@@vanesslifeygo I feel that lmao. even with this game it was easier to get most of the cards in my end game deck from packs over the password system
"switch outfits with me"

Funny story about this game: when I was about 6 or so my dad took me to this game shop to get my very first DS cartridge. I told my dad I wanted a Yu-Gi-Oh game (had literally never played yugioh in my life) and I pointed this one out for him to buy. It was at this moment that the owner decided to display astronomical levels of hating by calling my bluff. "Do you know what a duel is?" He asked me condescendingly. I did not. Long story short we left the game shop with a used Pokemon leafgreen cartridge lmao. That didn't stop me from getting into yugioh when I was older though
Now I'm a grown man still playing Master Duel constantly raging against Tear-Ishizu and Spright lmao.

Good review dude, this one of my favorite yugioh games along with eternal duelist soul, sacred cards for the gba and ds games for the 2000s.
I think it's my preferred DM era game for sure
eternal deulist soul was the shit!
I will admit, I was one of those that thought the Vampire could make your attack your own monsters. Also had a friend that used to say Infinite Cards lets you draw as many cards as you wanted lol
that and the MST negates is a right of passage lol
That Yu-Gi-Oh x SF3 intro was just *chefs kiss* a work of art 🤌
I said it once but I’ll say it again. I’m so glad I found this channel. The meme images and commentary make me bust up laughing. Good vid man. 👍

I hope you do more of these, editing and memes and commentary are on point man. I rewatch these.
I am, just taking a lot of time upgrading my style on top of the holidays. Next vid should come out hopefully this month so be on the look out :)
Your entire yugioh video series is basically "who the hell thought this was a good idea, a tale of Konami decisions".
It is konami after all. The last 10 years for konami is entirely a tale of dumb konami decisions 💀
The third strike yugioh intro was perfect. I'm suscribing just for that.

That Meruem edit was insane, it feels exactly like that when a NPC outplays you😂

Wow Metroid hunter and animal crossing takes me back omg 😭 thank you so much for watching
More games need to bring those back nowadays…
Lastly: you actually finished the whole game honest!?!?
Because I lost so many games by leaving that liability with 700ATK around for half a turn lol
Always looking forward to more of your content!
I love the back ground and character portraits in the game. I didn't have space to mention how nostalgic it is to see pre rendered backgrounds again. And the character art looks straight out of the manga. If you can find a way to make the grind shorter at the start I would recommend playing it again
Great video Ladd, the story really seemed to go in depth for this game.
1:16:28 wow a yugioh game where bakura reaches his status, never thought I'd see the day

This game kicks ass. It was my first ds game cause they only had 2 games at the store i got the ds (since it was so new), and i stayed up all night playing it and hiding it under the pillow/covers. Felt amazing to use all the cool cards i saw in the anime but could never get. Amazing video my man!
Konami's so allergic to reprinting powerful cards in the current meta, they didn't even add them to the video game. lol
LMAO. Chaos sorcerer? no freebies
@@gameboylad "Best I can do is Witch Doctor of Chaos"_Konami

And contrary to what people say that it makes the game stagnant the metas aways change here and there with some experimentations.
Let's go we're getting into the era kid me started to understand Yu-Gi-Oh somewhat with rules and thru the games that mimicked formats that existed

55:04 ok this part of the video was really cool. I wasn't expect a Yugioh variation of the SF3 Thrid Strike intro, but it was pretty hype. I (and most defintely many others) appericate the effort you put in these videoes.
thank you, it takes a lot of work but it's worth it when people are happy with what I put out
I loved this game as a kid and still loved it on a recent replay, the affinity system is great, it makes you feel like and important part of the world.
Great to hear! One day I can give duelist of the roses the best video I can give
Yeah this game does a good job trying to think up creative decks for the characters. A far cry from wcs 2004
