Thanks for the video! I have a 22 F150 that I purchased in December of 22. I noticed that I don't have a navigation tab at all, is there a setting that I'm missing to turn this on? I wasn't aware that there was an option to solely have navigation through apple carplay/android auto. I don't mind it, but when I do lose signal occasionally SYNC4 goes dead until apple carplay comes back up.
You're welcome! If it's this larger screen you should have factory navigation included. The smaller Sync4 screen wouldn't have navigation though.. What model of the F150 did you pick up? With the Sync 4 issue.. does it only occasionally cut out when using CarPlay or does it happen all the time?
Hmm the 22 Lariat should have factory navigation but there are 2 different types. The 501a would have connected navigation that gives 3 months of service then reverts to a moving map without destinations unless you subscribe to the connected features again. There's also the connected built in navigation that's in the 502a and optional in the 500a/501a with the Ford Co-Pilot360™ Assist 2.0 package. Built in gives you 3 years of connected service that reverts to a traditional GPS after the 2 years are up For the navigation tab to just not be there though is odd. Does yours have the Assist 2.0 package?
My new Galaxy S22 Ultra allows for Super Fast charging with a 45 watt brick charger. Are any the the USB chargers for your cell phones in the truck considered "quick chargers"? Thanks for your continued great content, Steve!
I've been trying to figure out the wattage of these chargers but haven't come across a definitive answer yet. From what I can tell from my use so far they aren't fast chargers though
@@GoogleUser-xr2hr That's what I found as well - but was hoping for a response from the blue oval directly. There are some aftermarket high capacity chargers but it would be great to see it as a factory option
Here's some things to know about quick charge functions. There's a difference between wattage chargers and technology style fast chargers. Qualcomm makes their quick charger that is based not only on just a particular wattage (20 watts, etc) but also on the flow. E.g, samasung licenses Qualcomm tech for their fast chargers, in order for it to work properly the charging block has to have the tech and the phone has to use it too, cable doesn't matter. That type is different from the generic wattage chargers that throw as much power at the phone as possible (60 watt, 40 watt) problem with those is the phone has to have the ability to charge at those rates through its charge controller, if not they adjust down as heat is the by product. Anker, Samsung, Belken license the Qualcomm fast tech in some of their products and you can get some great performance, but when you're charging at those rates heat can become an issue, which is why QI wirless tech is usually limited to 15watts or so, however the Qualcomm fast charging tech makes it possible to fast charge without using higher wattage at reduced rates but you need that tech to be both on the block and phone for it to work. The Samsung wired 45watt charger that's offered will "super fast charge" that s21 ultra you have though, but you'd have to run an inverter in the car. Wireless chargers in cars aren't worth it unless they possess all the mentioned above. I do wish magsafe would be available on android natively, honestly its the only apple feature I find innovative and it centers the Qi receiver so its always charging, unlike free standing versions.
We just bought 2022 Ford 150 Platinum I went to your video as I am very confused about why my Android auto will not stay connected. Can you walk me through why this continues to happen. I asked are salesperson he just mumbled some stuff. Thanks again for your help
Under the Apps screen (18:30 mark of the video) is Android Auto showing up there? Should just be a button press to reconnect it if it is. What phone are you using?
Weird.. the SE 20 is a compatible device. Could try a screen factory reset but it'll remove all data but it could also be a bug that Ford isn't aware of. If the screen and phone are up to date, and a reset doesn't fix it I'd send an email to Ford with the issue so they can be made aware of it
My truck keeps, connecting to Bluetooth but not to CarPlay. My phone is connected to Bluetooth Phone and Media. I have a 2022 F250 and an iPhone 13. Any ideas? Do I need to be connected to Wi-Fi? Thanks!
If you've got the Sync4 media screen it would be a wireless connection. The 2022 F250 still had the previous gen Sync3 screen standard so you might have a wired connection. Assuming you have Sync4, make sure Wifi is on your phone. Then: 1. On your phone, delete the connection to the vehicle in bluetooth settings 2. Remove the vehicle from Settings --> General --> CarPlay 3. On the Sync4 screen, remove the phone from the vehicle 4. Reconnect the phone and it should prompt for you to connect CarPlay If you're on the older Sync3 system, plug in via USB and the CarPlay connection prompt should show up!
About the connected services, after the 90 days what happens if you don't subscribe ? Does it still work like my 10 years old Ford's factory system, meaning shows maps without any comments about diners, etc ?
Great question, I've been trying to point that out now in my newer videos.. 90 day navigation The map reverts to a moving map with no destination input. So your vehicle will be in the middle of the screen and it's a live map view instead of working GPS 3 year connect built in navigation After the 3 years if you don't renew then the navigation system reverts to a traditional GPS just without live traffic alerts, weather etc
with the 90 day it would. If you could get your hands on a Sync 4 screen with the 3 year of service you could always swap them out and get it programmed to your VIN
Thanks! Outside of mentioning the HotSpot and some basics I haven't really dove into the feature because it needs a data plan. I'll add that to the list for a future video though
Unfortunately not. There are talks of Google allowing some video apps through Android Auto but the feature hasn't officially been rolled out. Can't see Ford adding that feature in their screens directly though
If CarPlay was disabled you could but there's no user setting for you to be able to choose your startup screen. But typing that makes me realize how easy that would be for them to program haha
Excellent! When activiating the wifi hotspot, I recieved a message that I could no longer use Apple Car Play. Is there a work around? I like wireless Apple Car Play, and also like using my laptop at times when working from the truck. Thanking you in advance for your reply.
Thanks Will! There's no workaround that I know of because Apple CarPlay actually utilizes bluetooth and wifi at the same time. I've never run into that scenario before but thinking about it now.. they should be usable at the same time. I'm wondering if it's limitations on Apple or Ford's side of things now
