*Labor of Love Changes* The 1.4.4 update changed when you can get the Leaf Wings, and they are now only sold after Plantera has been defeated. Best options now are to farm Souls of Light or Night, Feathers from Harpies, and Souls of Flight from high-altitude Wyverns, and craft the Angel Wings or Demon Wings. Another option is to farm Pixies in the surface Hallow and craft the Fairy Wings. Also, smashing altars no longer has a chance to cause a random block to convert to evil / hallow, so feel free to smash as many altars as you want. Ore yield from crates has also been decreased, but since you can freely smash altars, there's no reason to fish up crates to get ore. And there are now Crimson and Corruption versions of jungle grass, so the evil biomes will no longer destroy the jungle by converting the mud into dirt, making it MUCH less important to protect the jungle.

Seeing you be so chill with your base being corrupted or crimsonified (as I like to call it) just makes me know that having the your very base get corrupted isn't really that bad
It's really just a temporary minor inconvenience. I've heard of people starting over with a new world when something like that happens, but the way I see it, it's just a curve-ball that gives you a little bit of added challenge!
Something worth noting is that in 1.4.4, evil biome blocks will NOT convert mud to dirt, and evil grass will directly grow on mud instead, making jungle restoration a heck of a lot easier

Bro I just killed wall of flesh cus I was bored and my entire jungle is now crimson 😭 I’ve died like 420 times and my trees are also crimson along with my spawn one ocean, dungeon and all my deserts my hallow is also in my underground crimson my world is well and truly fucked up 🥳 Anyway thanks for the guide at the moment I just need obsidian cus I’ve not even got molten pickaxe yet 😂

Im weird and I like the drills/chainsaws. Slightly faster is nice, and I like the feeling of progressing from primitive tools to higher tech things like drills. And I’m not going to lie, I like the noise too lol.
This has been a massive help I broke my ankle and was bored out of my mind until I found this, I'm now a little over 20 hours in and loving the game even though I'm getting wrecked in hardmode. Thanks for all the help so far :)
Terraria is like Skyrim for me.. in that I find I like the idea of finishing Terraria more than I like actually finishing Terraria. I always start a new game, all excited and ready to finish it.. build my starter house, kill the first four bosses, gear up and get ready for Wall or Flesh, get anxiety about hardmode, watch some UA-cam videos about it, and then stop playing. I’ve done this cycle like 8 times and I’m doing it again right now.

I just want to thank you because you helped me out so much when I first started playing a few months ago. I have gone so far, I almost got the angler achievements I think I have about 167 done or something close. But it’s crazy how little I knew while now I am fighting the hardest bosses in calamity.
What did you do about the corruption or crimson? I didn’t prepare tunnels because I beat the wall of flesh super early lol now a lot of my jungle is corrupted
Yeah, the spread of the Corruption/Crimson is definitely a problem. In my most recent playthrough, I've tried to isolate the Corruption, but my Ice Biome still ended up getting corrupted, probably from the underground up. Cleaning that shit up will take some time and I think the Clentaminator is also quite expensive.
By the time you can buy it, the Clentaminator isn't too hard to afford. Unless the Goblin Tinkerer has been stingy with good mods lol Overall though biome spread isn't as big of a problem as it was before the Labor of Love update. The lack of random blocks converting when altars are smashed will really decrease the amount of biome spread, especially if you contain the evil areas that are present when the world is created.
When I enter hard mode I almost always do a suicide rush for the altars. There are plenty of things I could do to prepare, but I enjoy breaking a dozen altars in a row before getting swarmed by wraiths and either dying or just coming close. It’s not practical, but it’s like a tradition for me.
I picked up Terraria about two weeks ago and have put +/- 40 hours into the game already 😂 I had no idea what I was doing for the first day or two but then I came across your guide and it saved my life! Currently, I am in hard mode with the “V” kinda contained and the mech bosses defeated! Thanks for the great info. P.S - Will you be adding more to the guide in the near future?
@@salendrak question. I entered hard mode a little too early. I'm only now setting up pylons. I'm trying to navigate the world but am dying very easily. My problem is I did not explore underground enough and can't figure out where my V is. But when I explore underground I get destroyed. But I'm really paranoid that if I destroy an alter I'll lose my world to corruption. Should my order of progress be: Set pylons up in each biom Quarantine pylons Destroy alerts Mine/figure out where V is? If I naturally let the V go will I be doomed?

not gonna lie when i entered hardmode for the first time i quit almost instantly, because the biome spread seemed to be really fast and most of my npcs kept dying in blood moons. Thanks for the tutorial! I'll try to play hardmode again but with all the things you recommended.
The Uzi is a pain to get. But once you get it, it will carry you all the way till pre plantera. Even then it can be used as a secondary weapon. Grinding for it is worth it.
After accidentally summoning the wall of flesh and being woefully unprepared for hardmode (including a crimson diagonal that has wrecked my cavern pylon and threatens my forest one.) this is a huge help. Thanks for making an easy to follow guide.
Happy to be of service! And your experience is why I usually put my main base in the very center of the world, with the cavern pylon directly below it. MUCH less likely to have any V issues that way!
Tip: if you want a specific type of kre to be blessed, like you want palladium and not cobalt, save your game before smashing altar and if you get cobalt just close without saving and smash again. That way, you can get any ore you want
How do you do that? Close without saving? I've never tried to savescum in this game lol, but then I also don't care which variant of ore I ever get soooo 😆
I have found this series to be extremely helpful! Thank you for making these. Is there any timeframe on when you will release the next hardmode guide? (Totally understand if you don’t know, but thought I’d ask) I’m a first time player and am a little apprehensive to go into hardmode without a plan haha
Timeframe is usually pretty variable depending on how busy I am and what other projects I might be working on. I'll hopefully have another one out sometime in December though.
I remember that on my second playthrough I took up on fishing in early hardmode and a Toxicarp got into my hands really quickly. I did not quite grasp the rarity and strength of that drop, nonetheless I appreciated it for cheesing early hardmode

I find hard mode so much harder on expert mode compared to my normal difficulty playtrough. Im stuck defeating any of the mechanical bosses. But i will get them soon i hope! This guide helps a lot !

Thanks!! I do try to put as much value as I can into these videos, but that does tend to make them a bit dense. If you're newer to the game though, re-watching is definitely a good idea, as sometimes topics that don't make a lot of sense the first time you hear them suddenly click once you have a bit more experience playing the game. As for mech bosses - hopefully in the next month or so! I had been meaning to get to them a while ago, but keep getting sidetracked with other stuff 😉

early hardmode always felt like a chore to me...i always felt underleveled for anything and farming and getting the dawn ores it was just so...annoying and boring...i dropped the game several times at this point of the game...the only thing i defeated was queen slime...i am planning on going back to it, hopefully your tips will help me
Man, I wish the infection spread option from journey mode was on world gen settings, or as a perma buff item. I genuinely only play on the journey version of expert/master just because of it
I've never really been much bothered by biome spread, but from what I've heard, there are plenty of players who really don't like it. I bet there are mods to remove biome spread in non-journey worlds though, but those are only available on PC...
Bro your villages are insane. I just basically made a large underground hotel for all my NPCs at my spawn point. Guess I need to look into side villages instead.
While there's certainly nothing wrong with underground hotels (so long as you don't care about vendor discounts), having multiple pylon villages so you can warp around the world sure comes in handy!
As soon as hardmode starts get cobolt or mythral to make a drill THEN clean the corruption spreading. Drills have a waaaay faster speed at that point Rip sharkaxe😢
Leaf wings no longer sold by the witch doctor at night in the jungle, instead they're sold after defeating plantera, instead make Harpy or Fair wings maybe Frozen

Haha because I had already played with op friends in my first proper play through of Terraria I already had a somewhat better understanding of the game. But of course I dont know everything so this time around I started experiencing some of the things you were warning about like not destroying too many alters haha oh boy did I mess that up
Well, with the 1.4.4 update, you can smash alters without any negative repercussions. Not gonna lie though - I kind of miss the RNG of alters smashing causing odd pockets of evil / hallow popping up in random places...
I’m a little bit of a new player and I just started a hard mode world by complete accident and this world was relatively new so it was not ready for the new world horrors I real-leased upon the world. I died a lot.
My Hallow spawned in my Jungle biome. Which is good because Hallow can't take over the jungle, but on the other hand... my Hallow is in the hardmode Jungle.
I just bet wall of flesh, went to check on my dryad in the jungle and realised the the corruption is in the middle of the jungle really close to my village
Doh! Yeah, that can happen. You'll probably need to set up a new jungle village somewhere else for the time being. But at least the corruption no longer destroys the jungle anymore!
For anyone not aware, the Witch Doctor no longer sells the Leaf Wings until AFTER defeating Plantera in the latest version Edit: Just saw that he commented about about it lol. My bad, I forget to read pinned comments sometimes
Well, I'm a busy parent of two kids, and have other projects I've been working on. So depending on how busy I am, I basically get to them when I get to them, which honestly is never as often as I personally would like 😆
That used to be the case, but was removed in the 1.4 updates. Before 1.4, you could just fish up a ton of crates in pre-hardmode, and then open them right after the wall of flesh was defeated and get tons of hardmode ore. But not anymore, and with the 1.4.4 update they greatly reduced the amount of ore you get from chests anyways!
Me and my friend just got thrown into hard mode because my friend ACCIDENTALLY killed the wall of flesh... so i then had to do it on my world too so i wouldnt fall behind... His summons killed a voodoo demon above lava and we didnt freak out because he was just gonna kill himself if he did too well... his summons destroyed the wall of flesh when he wasnt even looking at the screen...
It's hilarious how Obsidian Armor is still so OP even in hardmode. I managed to beat a Mech Boss and crafted the Durendal from the Hallowed Bars. Obsidian Armor + Durendal + Blade Staff just melts enemies so far.
I finally managed to get into Terraria (the controls on switch to me a while to get used to) and killed WoF yesterday with no troubles. Aaaand like minutes later I got savagely killed by a f***ing cloud of rain. Needless to say, I’m gonna enjoy this video.
Before or after entering hardmode? Before entering players definitely feel like that, but usually once they're in hardmode, they get humbled pretty fast! 😆
And that's why it generally works better to make your pylon villages in pre-hardmode! Also, leaf-wings got changed in the Labor of Love update and are only sold after Plantera has been defeated. So maybe don't worry about the jungle for now?

I cant believe it. I was playing on classic just like you were, then suddenly a pirate invasion came and I was like: okay, Ima beat them and then I was wrecked 100 times my main village turned into a graveyard, all npcs died and then... out of nowhere... the twins just spawned? and then I was beating off a pirate invasion with only 20% progress and the twins.....
Im very new to Terraria, I have it on the Switch, and wow is this game expansive. I am looking for some clarity on biome spread/containment, do I want to let Evil & Hallow spread a little bit into each of the other biomes (for different mob spawns?) or do I want to completly isolate the Hardmove V once it generates? There is soo much to learn here, it feels pretty overwhelming. Thanks for any advice and thank you for these videos.
It honestly comes down to personal preference more than anything. Some people really DON'T want areas to be converted, especially to evil, while others don't really care one way or the other so long as all their villages keep functioning. I would say play through the game at least once, be as protective as you feel like being, and see how it goes and then make adjustments for next time!
Honestly, I don't really pay attention to how many altars I'm smashing. The more the better, I only want it to be a multiple of 3. I don't bother as well with quarantines in my worlds and my jungle is mostly fine, most of the time. The main problem occurs when the pylons stop working because of it, then it's a matter of deciding on how to fix it or just leave it be and keep going.
Sounds good to me! Sometimes I enjoy the chaos of random chance, but sometimes I like to control and shape the chaos as much as possible. Both approaches can be a lot of fun!
Weird question but let’s say I just got into hard mode and the evil has just corrupted the entrance into a cave.i enter the cave,but the further down I go,the further the evil spreads in the cave,like it’s running from me.why

@@salendrak well, in my case I had to remove the pearstone untill the water turn back to be able to buy those, either that or I had to have another NPC there as well, not sure which one allowed the pylon.. I moved both the WD and the Driad in Hardmode, this was the one thing I didn't bother to prepare before the WoF
My entire jungle was corrupted from the hardmode V and because of the temple, I can’t progress further into the caves and I’m planning to clean it up after the mechanical bosses are defeated so I can beat Plantera
On my very first terraria world I overprepared for everything and I was so scared of running out of room for the wall of flesh so I leveled out the ENTIRE underworld place. I chose like the middle of a building and made the whole biome stop there so I could walk across the whole thing. It took about a week of playing for a few hours after school each day l but I guess at least I killed him. Gosh I feel so stupid looking back at that.

As soon as I got hardmode i mistakenly used the teleportation potion and ran into a storm where I had to fight a boss I managed to defeat it from where I got forbidden artifact

When I enter hard mode I almost always do a suicide rush for the altars. There are plenty of things I could do to prepare, but I enjoy breaking a dozen altars in a row before getting swarmed by wraiths and either dying or just coming close. It’s not practical, but it’s like a tradition for me.

If you have a Night's Edge, the 1.4.4 changes to it should keep any wraiths off of you no problem.
I picked up Terraria about two weeks ago and have put +/- 40 hours into the game already 😂 I had no idea what I was doing for the first day or two but then I came across your guide and it saved my life! Currently, I am in hard mode with the “V” kinda contained and the mech bosses defeated! Thanks for the great info.

@@salendrak question. I entered hard mode a little too early. I'm only now setting up pylons. I'm trying to navigate the world but am dying very easily. My problem is I did not explore underground enough and can't figure out where my V is. But when I explore underground I get destroyed. But I'm really paranoid that if I destroy an alter I'll lose my world to corruption.
Should my order of progress be:
Set pylons up in each biom
Quarantine pylons
Destroy alerts
Mine/figure out where V is?
If I naturally let the V go will I be doomed?

not gonna lie when i entered hardmode for the first time i quit almost instantly, because the biome spread seemed to be really fast and most of my npcs kept dying in blood moons. Thanks for the tutorial! I'll try to play hardmode again but with all the things you recommended.

The Uzi is a pain to get. But once you get it, it will carry you all the way till pre plantera. Even then it can be used as a secondary weapon. Grinding for it is worth it.
I honestly am not sure if I've ever gotten it when I would have wanted to use it!
After accidentally summoning the wall of flesh and being woefully unprepared for hardmode (including a crimson diagonal that has wrecked my cavern pylon and threatens my forest one.) this is a huge help. Thanks for making an easy to follow guide.
Happy to be of service! And your experience is why I usually put my main base in the very center of the world, with the cavern pylon directly below it. MUCH less likely to have any V issues that way!

Tip: if you want a specific type of kre to be blessed, like you want palladium and not cobalt, save your game before smashing altar and if you get cobalt just close without saving and smash again. That way, you can get any ore you want
How do you do that? Close without saving? I've never tried to savescum in this game lol, but then I also don't care which variant of ore I ever get soooo 😆

I have found this series to be extremely helpful! Thank you for making these. Is there any timeframe on when you will release the next hardmode guide? (Totally understand if you don’t know, but thought I’d ask) I’m a first time player and am a little apprehensive to go into hardmode without a plan haha
Timeframe is usually pretty variable depending on how busy I am and what other projects I might be working on. I'll hopefully have another one out sometime in December though.

I remember that on my second playthrough I took up on fishing in early hardmode and a Toxicarp got into my hands really quickly. I did not quite grasp the rarity and strength of that drop, nonetheless I appreciated it for cheesing early hardmode

I find hard mode so much harder on expert mode compared to my normal difficulty playtrough. Im stuck defeating any of the mechanical bosses. But i will get them soon i hope! This guide helps a lot !

I think I was the 4,000th like! Great video, and super informative! I have a way to go until I'm ready for hard mode on my current player, but I'll be coming back here frequently when I'm there! I love how you layout your videos--they are jam-packed with awesome information, but can be too much for me to take in all at once so I frequently find myself re-watching portions and/or coming back them, but I never get bored with seeing the same information again!

Thanks!! I do try to put as much value as I can into these videos, but that does tend to make them a bit dense. If you're newer to the game though, re-watching is definitely a good idea, as sometimes topics that don't make a lot of sense the first time you hear them suddenly click once you have a bit more experience playing the game. As for mech bosses - hopefully in the next month or so! I had been meaning to get to them a while ago, but keep getting sidetracked with other stuff 😉

early hardmode always felt like a chore to me...i always felt underleveled for anything and farming and getting the dawn ores it was just so...annoying and boring...i dropped the game several times at this point of the game...the only thing i defeated was queen slime...i am planning on going back to it, hopefully your tips will help me

Man, I wish the infection spread option from journey mode was on world gen settings, or as a perma buff item. I genuinely only play on the journey version of expert/master just because of it
I've never really been much bothered by biome spread, but from what I've heard, there are plenty of players who really don't like it. I bet there are mods to remove biome spread in non-journey worlds though, but those are only available on PC...

I just basically made a large underground hotel for all my NPCs at my spawn point.
Guess I need to look into side villages instead.
While there's certainly nothing wrong with underground hotels (so long as you don't care about vendor discounts), having multiple pylon villages so you can warp around the world sure comes in handy!

As soon as hardmode starts get cobolt or mythral to make a drill THEN clean the corruption spreading. Drills have a waaaay faster speed at that point

Haha because I had already played with op friends in my first proper play through of Terraria I already had a somewhat better understanding of the game. But of course I dont know everything so this time around I started experiencing some of the things you were warning about like not destroying too many alters haha oh boy did I mess that up
Well, with the 1.4.4 update, you can smash alters without any negative repercussions. Not gonna lie though - I kind of miss the RNG of alters smashing causing odd pockets of evil / hallow popping up in random places...

My Hallow spawned in my Jungle biome. Which is good because Hallow can't take over the jungle, but on the other hand... my Hallow is in the hardmode Jungle.

@@salendrak Certainly. I just decided to dig out a chunk of my world to create an artificial Hallow.
I just bet wall of flesh, went to check on my dryad in the jungle and realised the the corruption is in the middle of the jungle really close to my village
Doh! Yeah, that can happen. You'll probably need to set up a new jungle village somewhere else for the time being. But at least the corruption no longer destroys the jungle anymore!
I was today year's old when i leanred that the jungle is no longer at risk from the evil biome.

I was told keeping fishing crates from pre hard-mode, can have the same loot of hard-mode crates.
That used to be the case, but was removed in the 1.4 updates. Before 1.4, you could just fish up a ton of crates in pre-hardmode, and then open them right after the wall of flesh was defeated and get tons of hardmode ore. But not anymore, and with the 1.4.4 update they greatly reduced the amount of ore you get from chests anyways!

Me and my friend just got thrown into hard mode because my friend ACCIDENTALLY killed the wall of flesh... so i then had to do it on my world too so i wouldnt fall behind...
His summons killed a voodoo demon above lava and we didnt freak out because he was just gonna kill himself if he did too well... his summons destroyed the wall of flesh when he wasnt even looking at the screen...

It's hilarious how Obsidian Armor is still so OP even in hardmode. I managed to beat a Mech Boss and crafted the Durendal from the Hallowed Bars. Obsidian Armor + Durendal + Blade Staff just melts enemies so far.
I think I heard it's getting nerfed in the next update though. Sad day! It is a bit OP though...
Unless it has changed you can fish the crates pre-hard mode and then open them in hard mode and still get the ores.
Nah, that was changed a while ago! These days you can only get hardmode ore from crates that were fished up in hardmode.
Tip if you have a big Arena and you are fighting biome mimics you can go far away and they will come to you not doing anything in the process

I finally managed to get into Terraria (the controls on switch to me a while to get used to) and killed WoF yesterday with no troubles.
Aaaand like minutes later I got savagely killed by a f***ing cloud of rain.
Needless to say, I’m gonna enjoy this video.

And that's why it generally works better to make your pylon villages in pre-hardmode! Also, leaf-wings got changed in the Labor of Love update and are only sold after Plantera has been defeated. So maybe don't worry about the jungle for now?

I cant believe it. I was playing on classic just like you were, then suddenly a pirate invasion came and I was like: okay, Ima beat them and then I was wrecked 100 times my main village turned into a graveyard, all npcs died and then... out of nowhere... the twins just spawned? and then I was beating off a pirate invasion with only 20% progress and the twins.....
Sometimes the stars just align like that. I'll bet it made for a pretty memorable gaming experience though! 😆

The best way to farm souls is definitely king slime. Spawn hun underground where you want your souls and just farm him a few times :)

Im very new to Terraria, I have it on the Switch, and wow is this game expansive.
I am looking for some clarity on biome spread/containment, do I want to let Evil & Hallow spread a little bit into each of the other biomes (for different mob spawns?) or do I want to completly isolate the Hardmove V once it generates?
There is soo much to learn here, it feels pretty overwhelming.

It honestly comes down to personal preference more than anything. Some people really DON'T want areas to be converted, especially to evil, while others don't really care one way or the other so long as all their villages keep functioning. I would say play through the game at least once, be as protective as you feel like being, and see how it goes and then make adjustments for next time!
Honestly, I don't really pay attention to how many altars I'm smashing. The more the better, I only want it to be a multiple of 3. I don't bother as well with quarantines in my worlds and my jungle is mostly fine, most of the time. The main problem occurs when the pylons stop working because of it, then it's a matter of deciding on how to fix it or just leave it be and keep going.
Sounds good to me! Sometimes I enjoy the chaos of random chance, but sometimes I like to control and shape the chaos as much as possible. Both approaches can be a lot of fun!

Weird question but let’s say I just got into hard mode and the evil has just corrupted the entrance into a cave.i enter the cave,but the further down I go,the further the evil spreads in the cave,like it’s running from me.why
Most likely the area got hit by the hardmode V and then spread before you explored it.
There is an issue with hollow and jungle as well, the witch doctor wont sell the wings if it is hollow.... likelly every other biome speccific sale...
Interesting! I'm not sure if I was aware that hybrid biomes prevent sales like that, which is odd since you can still buy pylons in those situations...I think.....
@@salendrak well, in my case I had to remove the pearstone untill the water turn back to be able to buy those, either that or I had to have another NPC there as well, not sure which one allowed the pylon.. I moved both the WD and the Driad in Hardmode, this was the one thing I didn't bother to prepare before the WoF
My entire jungle was corrupted from the hardmode V and because of the temple, I can’t progress further into the caves and I’m planning to clean it up after the mechanical bosses are defeated so I can beat Plantera
With the most recent update you don't actually need to clean it up. It's totally optional!

My jungle got hit by crimson. Thats a pain. My hallow also got hit with crimson biome, ehich means hallow cants spread on surface
That happens! Not too hard to spread stuff manually to get it where you want it though.

On my very first terraria world I overprepared for everything and I was so scared of running out of room for the wall of flesh so I leveled out the ENTIRE underworld place. I chose like the middle of a building and made the whole biome stop there so I could walk across the whole thing. It took about a week of playing for a few hours after school each day l but I guess at least I killed him. Gosh I feel so stupid looking back at that.

As soon as I got hardmode i mistakenly used the teleportation potion and ran into a storm where I had to fight a boss I managed to defeat it from where I got forbidden artifact
