Just a few corrections to iron out for noobies: 1. Don't hammer the alters until you're ready to fight the mechanical bosses. Otherwise, just stay underground or save and exit when you're warned about them and still need to prepare. I suggest getting the Spider set, Shadowflame Knife, and Amarok and you have easy early hardmode gear without mining a single hardmode ore. Plus, you can get hardmode ores via fishing, although that's way more time-consuming. 2. You only need a THREE-block wide hole to avoid spreading corruption, not four. This may sound negligible, but if you use Scarab Bombs, you'll thank me later. 3. Build a Cavern pylon next to the shimmer so that the Bottomless Shimmer Bucket is not much of an upgrade.
Idk about the first one. To me, the regular hardmode enemies only start to get manageable once I get the first hardmode ore armor. I can't imagine fighting them without it for longer than necessary.
A few more: 1. Terraprisma isn't exclusively the best summon weapon, as it's outperformed in dps by the Stardust Dragon. However, it does perform better while exploring or during events as it can reach multiple far-away enemies at once. I'd recommend keeping one segment of Stardust Dragon and filling your other summon slots with Terraprisma outside of boss fights, and using Stardust Dragon exclusively against bosses, especially Moon Lord. 2. To add onto whether or not to mine alters: many hardmode weapons and armor are locked behind ores, primarily because of furnace and anvil upgrades. While mech bosses occasionally spawning might be inconvenient, fishing is usually much more tedious, as is making preparations while in pre-hardmode gear. And some extra suggestions: 3. Buy your class's buff stations ASAP. They're easy to get and only have positive benefits. Ammo Box for ranged, Grindstone for melee, Crystal Ball for magic, and Bewitching Table (if you don't have from the dungeon) for summoner. Crystal Ball also let's you craft bottomless ammo pouches, although now that you have unlimited access to silver bullets you may want to use those as fodder ammo instead. 4. Especially in Crimson worlds, start making Ichor/Cursed Flame flasks. For melee and summoner, the extra damage will help tremendously. 5. Clear out space in the surface snow biome for when it rains. Frost Golems drop cores that benefit melee and ranged with armor and summoner with an essential weapon, as well as the Ice Feather for good wings. 6. On the topic of wings, try to avoid demon/angel wings if possible. They waste valuable souls and are the worst you can get pre-mech. If you have a spare slot, balloon accessories tremendously boost your max height and vertical flight speed, and a slime mount or pogo stick can be used to fall quickly. 7. Try to plan out which order to fight the mechs in based on class and progression. Imo, Destroyer is best for melee and ranged, and Twins is best for magic and summoner. Bonus Tip: Progression becomes a joke if you kill Duke Fishron early. As he can be summoned as soon as you enter hardmore, you technically can fight him as early as you like. Even though the fight is more structured towards post-Plantera builds, Duke is possible with enough patience, mobility, and skill (or cheese if you find no shame in it). Normally, regular progression is easy enough that you might end up never fighting him, but in something like legendary getfixedboi, where you have to fight all three buffed mechs at once without access to hallowed armor or life fruit, pre-mech Duke becomes much more reasonable.
Great video! Tip, a highly overlooked item when farming for RoD is the Shadow Candle. Wiki states: "In the presence of a Shadow Candle, standing still or in front of safe walls will not prevent Wyverns, Chaos Elementals and other enemies with such particular conditions from spawning." Keep up the good work!
one thing to keep in mind for the Rod of Discord farm is that you can use a shadow candle to negate the movement requirement for chaos elementals to spawn, this also means you can have player placed walls behind you
With respect, like the utmost and highest level of respect. I beat up several Fishron/EOL hoping to get their good loot, loooooong before I got the bright idea to check the drop chances online, just to discover most of the things mentioned in this video come from beating these bosses on expert/master mode. Maybe it's just me, but I fully believe that saying that you'll need to beat said bosses in certain difficulties is required as to not confuse newer players. Again, I seriously mean no harm, I just wasted a good chunk of time grinding for a few unobtainable items :/
