I also stop and listen to every Streisand speech. She is truly a woman of substance. She never bores anyone each time. Her insights are always on point.

The best acceptance speech I have heard to date. Give, that Streisand can be a little too introspective and long winded, I have to admit, this is a winner.

She has such a kind spirit, in spite of dealing with much ridicule and mistreatment by those ignorant and some...jealous of our Brooklyn girl.😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😄

She is amazing , great speech, and so true. And to add, songs or films don't need to be perfect to touch you. There are many films and mostly song, which I carry in my heart, link to a memory , a friend.

Besides being a very special, gifted, and unique person with multiple talents and abilitiets, she is very smart, possessing the whole gamet of intelligence types such as intellectual, emotional, and intuitive. In addition to enjoying the positive aspects of this intelligence, she must also suffer its downside which is seeing and knowing. It's not an easy house to keep in order or to balance. Through it all, she has managed to find beautiful and powerful ways of expressing and sharing it all.

She is who and where she is because she has and delivers it all: talent, charisma, warmth, kindness, vision, compassion and a special kind of intelligence. Barbra is very smart which would be apparent and operant in any situation or career she would have chosen. All this is brought together when she speaks which quiets the room as people want to hear every word she says. There is real substance and meaning, way beyond typical superficial Hollywood "chatter" or self-aggrandizement. She doesn't just fill time...she teaches.

Refreshingly intelligent... a few trivial digressions, but overall the entire delivery is pure gold.
She is blessed with an ability to reflect on what really matters and to articulate those things beautifully.

Interesting that Streisand expresses gratitude to William Wyler, the director of "Funny Girl" her first and best film, and the best showcase for her musical talent and abilities. When she began to direct herself, she became self-indulgent and her films, without diminishing her achievements, never attained the same level of quality. She intends to re-make "Gypsy", a project to which she is well suited, but she needs a strong director like Wyler to make sure that the film realizes its potential.

I love the cut to Matt and Winona. Miss Ryder probably chugged a bottle of wine and then some. She could barely keep from falling off her chair.

Do you have the speech that Shirley Maclaine gives in presenting this award? If so, can you post it?

  • @mrjones29

Well deserved but the speech is slightly too long and winding, the start used up a lot of nothing. But once she gets going after 3mins 30secs it's a good listen to.

How fcking weird that Shirley Maclaine of all people, one of Barbra's BFF's for 50 yrs. and even shares the same birthday introduces her as Barbra StreiZAND (the pronunciation that as we all knows irritates the F out of Barbra) .... *SMH
