The woman just knows how to talk, orate, essay, and philosophize. And to be able to do it live and on the fly, with incredible wit, humor, and passion (and still acknowledge your 50-year roots as a dancer) is talent beyond the footlights. Channeling, indeed.

nobody, but NOBODY, in that or any other business, could give a speech like that! How purely MacLaine this is. This woman need never worry about 'sustaining our interest' who could turn away?

An intelligent, witty, and thought provoking acceptance speech fittingly reflecting upon her journey of self discovery through her work and during her life. This is how you make a lifetime achievement acceptance speech!

Thank you for posting this. Her speech affected me so much by how grounded, how centered she was. How humbled by her experiences and grateful for being a part of that world. I saw this when it was first aired and, thanks to the wonders of technology, I can revisit it whenever I need to feel good about the world.

As I commented on another MacLaine tape, she should have justifiably won Academy Awards for her work in Some Came Running [ Sinatra, in an uncharacteristically selfless gesture, gave her the pivital death scene] and her marvelous work in Wilder's The Apartment.

Sinatra was known for his generosity with other performers.

She should have won for the Apartment. Do not about some came running maybe nominated.

I read 'Out on a Limb' when it came out. I enjoyed it very much. I haven't had some of the experiences you have, Ms MacLain but I loved hearing yours. Your sense of humor about some of the media comments from that book and I guess otherwise is very commendable. 😂
When I saw 'Being There' the movie, I remembered that you wrote something about Peter Sellers in your book. Thank you, dear for everything.
