Red Dead Redemption: The Man From Blackwater
Created and directed by John Hillcoat (the director of The Proposition and The Road) this short film chronicles a slice-in-time of protagonist John Marston as he tracks down his former fellow outlaw and friend, Bill Williamson. Along the way, Marston encounters many of Red Dead Redemption's eclectic cast of dreamers, misfits and liars.
Using the world of Red Dead Redemption as a virtual film studio and created entirely with in-game assets and technology, John Hillcoat re-imagines Marston's pursuit of justice and salvation.

Nippleless Cage Oh yeah, I agree with you, 100%. Rockstar has always done a few things better than anyone else, and probably the most important thing is that they create vibrant, beautiful, living worlds that your curiosity compels you to explore. I didn't know if an Old West game could be done well, but this game was too good. Not to make a sequel for next-gen consoles would be a huge missed opportunity.

No ,tumbleweed is a ghost town in RDR 1 there is also fort mercer in RDR 1
God the gang looks different in the short film than in rdr 2
Manurere Melvin Yeah, the gang was supposed to be made up of Bill, Javier, John, Abagail, Jack, and a couple of other members. It was a much smaller gang and you can kind of tell by the way John talks about it. Dutch in RDR1 is described as the voice of the poor and unfortunate. John mentions several times that the gang would rob and murder the rich and give the money to those who needed it more (the poor.) A communist who had a different vision of what the American Dream should be. In the RDR1 GOTY Guidebook, Dutch lost his mind trying to fight for a change. John says to Abraham Reyes that he lost faith in his cause and helping people all together.
However, RDR2 painted a different picture. One that’s inconsistent with the lore. In RDR2, Dutch is only out for his gang and constantly makes poor decisions that puts everyone in danger. He’s not as charismatic as he was in RDR1 and seems to rely on Micah and others to run his operation for him. Despite the amount of money he’s earned, it’s never enough and continues to become more and more moronic and dim witted.
I don’t like how the writers depicted Dutch’s downfall. He’s supposed to be a selfless charismatic leader, but instead, they make him out to be a complete clueless dipshit who puts his needs before anyone else. One can argue that they were writing about an already unhinged Dutch, but the chapter with Rains Fall seems to imply he’s always been this man. I would’ve loved to have seen the Dutch described in RDR1, but I guess we never will.
Also, in RDR1, John says that nobody in the gang cared for him and only pretended to until Dutch went crazy. Bill and Javier go on to tell John that nobody wanted him around and wanted him dead. John seems to suggest this in his conversation with Landon Ricketts. "I left the gang after the gang left me, left me to die after I’d been shot. They’d all gone crazy anyhow. Our old leader, a fella you probably heard of. Anyways, he more or less lost his mind, went and shot a bunch of people unfair like. I was shot in a robbery, they left me, I left them."
None of this seems to line up at all. A very small percentage of Dutch’s gang wanted John gone in RDR2. Mary Beth, Sadie, Karen, Susan, Charles, Arthur, Uncle, Pearson, etc, all loved John or at least viewed him as equal. However in RDR1 Abagail says something along the lines of, "For a while we all found something right, a better way to live, but it was just a lie, you saw it before they did. You knew the truth John, and they hated you for it." It seems like John was meant to be the black sheep of the gang. Someone who spoke out against Dutch when he saw the gang becoming savage and ruthless. However in RDR2, the gang had an inner conflict between members of the gang that ended up choosing their own paths in the end.
RDR2 was very inconsistent and those plot holes were just the tip of the ice berg. There’s many more, but I think you get my point.

22:22 Did anyone else think is was weird when Irish was in the group even though they skipped his part in the film. Still a good film. Red Dead was one of the best games I've ever played.
This was probably one of the greatest games I have ever played; I would love to see this done up as a movie, maybe even a trilogy. Way too much content for such a short film but it is well done. Rockstar puts out great games, 'nuff said.

We need more Western Style Third Person Open World Games.... because there are simply not enough. Now imagine to following: the mix between GTA 5 (3 charakters), The Witcher 3 (storytelling) and Fallout / Skyrim (loot and crafting). MY PERFECT Western third person open world game would be like this: the story is told from 3 Charakters point of view.. A deserted soldier fled to Mexico. A Native American caught between the fronts (North vs South) and a Texas Ranger / US Marshall (you begin as a deputy and work your way to the top) who needs to learn that not everything is either black or white... but more and more Shades of Grey. I want a single player game with MMORPG Elements, which means: tons of loot, crafting materials, all variety of weapons (melee and ranged). Crafting such as Gunsmithing, Tailoring, Cooking, Fishing etc.... to keep the players busy.
Simply throw everything possible at us. Crafting as we had in Fallout 4... but in Western Style.
lets hope for RDR2 :) it could have more characters!

Overall, this was very well done. There were some inconsistencies, and it did jump around a little more than it should have, the dialogue was a little too fast paced, but overall, I loved it. Anyone know how they made this, like how they were able to get all the camera angles?

In my truly honest opinion, I think that Red Dead Redemption is THE BEST videogame ever made. I love this game so much that I have almost stopped playing my other games entirely, I just can't get enough of it. There is always something to do, it never ends. 5/5 for the video, nice job.

Actually, you don't get the from Nastas, you get them during the mission called "At Home With Dutch" and you take them from a Native American scout you silently kill who's watching over Cochinay.

No, not in the game, but plenty of people mount and dismount on the right side. More people will dismount on the right side than they mount on the right side, but it does happen. You'll see it more with western than you will english, but it does happen in both. I ride english and I've practiced it in case of emergency situations, such as being on a trail where it would be safer to dismount on the right side. Roping also effects it, because how you rope the cattle decides which side you dismount
But i think there should be an alternative ending like GTA 4. If you spare dutch, He helps you fight off the U.S army while you escape into Mexico. And then you get with Reyes and take back New Austin and West Elizabeth and the people of New Austin and West Elizabeth help because the U.S Army is Occupying Their homes and store and breaking the 3rd amendment. And i think that would be better cause people like the story line being a bit long. When i beat the game i was like damn that was fast!!!
@TheEzraGarrison A movie sounds great and I would definitely love to see it but it would be about 25 to 30 hours. I mean just look at all the missions and all of that character development that we love. Would you want it to be squeezed into a 2 hour movie? So many things would have to be cut. I would love to see a live action version of this, but I think we all know how videogame movie adaptations often end up. The reason they end up that way is because writers change things.
@EcholsOutlaw99 Not true. Everything right now is merely rumor and speculation. If you Google "Red Dead Redemption Movie Johnny Depp" The only hit that encompasses all of these is an article from the LA Times about Rango, Cowboys & Aliens and RDR speculation. The most recent reports other than that all point to Brad Pitt and were posted as far back as September, 2010. Personally, I believe that Josh Brolin should play John Marston. Hope it happens.
What a disappointment. This wasn't "created and directed" by Hillcoat so much as it was edited. It's just a splicing of existing cutscenes from the game.
In his defense, Hillcoat is out of his element. He obviously doesn't know much about machinima and how to "direct" with a video game, but that's doesn't make his movie any better. In fact, it flies in the face of the efforts of so many quality examples of machinima out there. More effort next time, please.

His physical appearance was based on Mackenzie Crook / especially in pirates of the Caribbean who his character always lost his wood eye (what Seth found in the treasure chest) and was also a crazy treasure seeker.
@EcholsOutlaw99 well, there would be the chance of it if there was 1 movie for each individual act. 1 for the New Austin act, 1 for the mexico act, and 1 for the blackwater act. but i don't see that happening. i just hope when Rockstar makes the next game of the Red Dead series it would be half as good as Redemption.

not to piss on the efforts made by the person who constructed this piece of videography, but i was a bit disappointed in this as it was merely a collaboration of cutscenes from the game and camera work during some gameplay.

To those people asking about the binoculars, in single player, you get them from an Indian native called Nastas later in the game. I wouldn't consider that a spoiler but i appologise in advance incase you feel it was.

Hey theres this character in multiplayer who say funny things like "I'll crap in your hat" and "Lick my rusty,brown,badge". Does anyone know who this guys name is because i want to use him.
The ending should be Agent Ross coming to John's farm trying to kill him and right before Ross pulls the trigger Jack shoots him in the head with a sniper rifle like 150 yards away.
So even though they are parallel universes it can still technically be referred to as a sequel because it still expands on the same issues as the first. It's all trivial anyway. haha

If they make rdr into a movie they should do it in three parts.
Part 1- west Elizabeth/ new Austin
Part 2- Mexico
Part 3- Blackwater/ remember my family duel for the ending scene.
How is it not a sequel? When the trailer for the development phases began Rockstar called it the sequel to Red Dead Revolver. As the guy above you stated, it is indeed both.

at 1:30 john marston is shown getting off of his mount on the right side.. nobody mounts or de-mounts a horse on the right side, not even in the game itself.
