Great summary of one of my favorite books. This is the goal setting method I use on a regular basis.

    Thank you!
    1. Focus on your WIG, Wildly Important Goal. "If everything else stayed the same, what one achievement would make everything else seem secondary?"
Then take that achievement and frame it as 'from state x to state y by time z'.
(From unmixed songs to album release by labor day)
    2. Measure Lead behaviors.
(Behaviors that you can influence and improve daily and weekly)
    Amount of effort
    3. Put up a scoreboard:
People play differently when they know the score and the amount of time left in the game.
    4. Schedule weekly accountability talks:
    What you planned,
    What you did,
What you plan to do to hit the next milestone

    Four discipline of execution
    1. Focus on most important
    2. Measure the result
    3. Put up a scoreboard
    4. Schedule activity

2 is wrong. It's measure lead behaviour, not lag results.

4 is *dead* wrong... It's weekly accountability talks
also 1 is not sufficient. it's focus on the *ONE* most imporant thing

    1. Focus on your W.I.G
For example in the airport, all planes are important
most important is the take off planes
Format using from x to y using z
    2.Measure Lead behaviors
    Weight loss
Blog -- > first number of articles --> then how many followers --> Revenue
Sales -> # follow up emails -> sales amount
    3. Put up a scoreboard
Go to park and play --> People get scoreboard ->
Display both lead and Lag measurement
    How lead and Lag measurements
    4. Weekly accountability meetings
    Regular face face to meetings
    Verbally communicate

The summary of the book is good. The book however I find it a simplification of a well designed Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process of Supply Chain Management. This means that since plans are usually ongoing and that there is a time to complete the execution of the plan or Lead Time (time between departing from the origin airport to the destination airport in the example), the weekly meeting is usually divided in four parts: 1) the Historical week (last week) where we see the results measured in Key Performance Indices (KPIs) by area vs the plan; 2) The Limit Week where the implementable part of the plant is adopted (in the airport controller example would be to allow the airplanes to depart from the origin airport to be received) to be able to executed by the Critical Week (arrival week); 3) A review of the Lead Time (in the example would be the airplanes in the air) if everything is going according to plan since only partial measures can be taken: reroutes because bad weather or other; 4) A general review of what to do beyond the Critical Week (Planning Horizon). The Planning Horizon is going to be reviewed every week since the entire timeline slides one week towards the present and one week is added to the end.Furthermore, which the book is light about, what or how to determine a goal or idea to be good or important and more relevant is it achievable. Corporate may want a $1B annual sales but if you know it can't be done shouldn't you also present your weekly meetings update to senior management? If the decision is only Top-Down it will most likely become an exercise in futility hence the precise point missed in the book.

    4 Disciplines to Systemic Execution
    1. Focus on your ONE Wildly Important Goal (WIG) of achievement.
    2. Measure Lead Behaviors of critical day-to-day activities.
    3. Put up a Scoreboard. Will to win fuels Execution. See winning or losing in 5 seconds.
    4. Schedule weekly accountability talks. What I said I'd do, What I did, What you plan to do.

Worked for a company that sent out a dashboard report that was three pages long every morning on sales, discounts, labor and costs. I always thought this was a distraction rather than a value added report. It focused many managers on what happened last week and yesterday and how to explain the small changes.

I'm kinda absolutely positively sure I disagree with measuring lead behaviors (4:07). This leads on a dangerous path of doing work that "deserves" the result, instead of work that "causes" the result. I know that sometimes the real results may take a long time to show, but counting the attempt as a result in and of itself, to me, isn't a good practice. Anyway, I love your videos! I was just commenting on the book
