You ever wonder if you could have a tank in the classical era? Fortunately, you can have something even better - historically accurate tanks in a strategy setting! Thanks to World of Tanks for sponsoring the video! - link.thenode.gg/LaithApr24
Fun fact: apparently the Indo Greeks imparted onto the Indian subcontinent their knowledge of architecture. One greek Bactrian “Agesilas” allegedly even helped in the construction of a Buddhist reliquary, though this claim is disputed. There was even a depiction of the fucking TROJAN WAR found in Gandhara. In fact, many of the iconic Buddhist statues were done in what scholars refer to as “Greco-Buddhism” that borrowed Greek inclinations for their art and applied it to their pantheon instead.
9:02 when Sogdia declares war there is a good chance Selucids will just drop you as a vassal instead of helping out. Your RNG was bad and they kept you.
Fun Fact: The nation of Bactria existed for just long enough to give its name to one of the two most common types of camel breeds which exist in the modern day. The typical, single humped camel, is found primarily in Arabia and North Africa. Less common is the two humped, Bactrian camel, which are found across the Persian region and Central Asia. Biologists believe that the Bactrian camel is an evolutionary offshoot of the single-humped camel, whose distinguishing two humps were an adaption to the gigantic pair of gamer headphones which they are born with, which stretch from one side of their body to the other, over the generations splitting the two humps in two. As they age, the Bactrian camel eventually sheds the gamer headphones, but retains the distinct biforcated hump and an an enormous central part in their hair which no amount of brushing can ever quite remove.
Shortcut to find cities in each province is in the top right of the panel for the found city screen. The button looks like a little white house with a white circle. It shows all regions in that province and which are cities in a small pullout screen.
Agreed! A great playthrough to do with clear goals throughout while being strong enough at the start that you actually feel like those goals are approachable.
I think the dying problem is due to the amount of people in the cities. Like, the point where you said "I'm done with people dying, especially after the breadbasket stuff", the city had 59/19 pops ll
There's 2 totally different countries called Parthia: the Selecid satrapry of Parthia, and the Parthian state formed by the Parni tribes under Arsaces after they conquered the territory of Seleucid Parthia
For the part 2 video, the MT and Invictus is interesting. You have 3 choices: 1) Go into the Indus (the historical choice). You can form India this way. Historically, when Bactria invaded the Indus, it began a renaissance of art & knowledge. The Greco-Buddhist art form originated from here. Many Greco-Bactrians converted to Buddhist. This empire lasted until invaders from the North harmed the homeland significantly. 2) Go north & west. You can utilize your Bactrian homeland to power a major expansion north & west, integrate a steppe culture, and go ham with horse archers thanks to your Bactrian military traditions. You can reform the Bosphoran Kingdom this way. 3) Go south & west. With your power growing so significantly, you can use it to forge an uncertain alliance with the Mauryans & invade the Seleukids. You start with one of three of the artifacts to form the mega-artifact for Alexander. You can form a Persian empire this way. P.S. Bactria's full of mountain passes & desert passes. You can populate them with forts. These forts will greatly reduce enemy manpower, especially with the doubled hostile attrition military tradition you took!
You can deploy levies on specific provinces in the Levies map mode, best way to deal with barbarians. Cities are in Territory rank map mode, Holding map mode shows which character owns which province. It's a good idea to give your heir a city so they can get some money into their personal savings.
Pretty sure all your pops are starving because invictus has a dynamic seasons system so your food production gets -90% in the winter. You can turn it off in the game rules tho
I remember going for a Bactria run in CK3 once. It was the only time I really felt challenged playing the game because you start sororunded by people who hate you so much, most of them don't even want you as a vassal.
I forgot about that mod which extends the map to China till you've mentioned it now Laith, I remember there's a big ass war at the start there so I'm looking forward to this from you!
Community challenge/video ideas for laith in Imperator Rome; the rise of the Huns: 1. Play as an east Sakan ruler and create the Hephthalites empire in their historical best time or 2. Play as an east Sakan ruler and migrate into northwest India, conquer and hold it 3. Play as a west Sakan ruler and migrate into Hungary, destroy everything in your path, abandon everything that you left while migrating and take everything on the way with you. In Hungary you raid, slave everyone and create vassals tributes. (for comparison, we can take the border of Hungary in 1444 without their vassals) You can check in the wiki the borders of the Hephthalites, Alchon Huns (you can ignore the chunk land, that they owned in central india, just take the northwest India Region, as comparison maybe the borders of Punjab in Victoria 2/3) and Huns of Europe (comparision Hungary borders in Eu4) Background: In Crusader Kings 2 (1,200h playtime as kid) we have the achievement, where you can play the last Sakan count (of Mohadavasaka 769) in India and restore the Hephthalites The Hepthalites are some sort of Huns (some say there are part of the turkic culturegroup) created an empire and making the lives from everyone hard, some of them migrate into northwest India and become the Archon Huns, created there their own ruling time. The Sakan are relative, ancestor, successor, remnants, of the white Huns and the White Huns have the same ancestor as the Huns in Europe, would be funny if you play as the Pre-Huns and try to complete this run :D PS: Love your videos, I hope you read it 😢
I did a paper one the Greco-Bactrians for one of my courses. Their rulership history is a game thrones style story of alliance and betrayal. I would totally recommend W. W. Tarn’s “the Greeks in Bactria and India”, probably one of the best books on the subject
If you want to play in India proper I have two suggestions, Kalinga and Nabhaptakti. The former gives you a more traditional game but has a unique mission tree from all the others vs say the Tamil Kings (which share one between the three of them), while the latter has a whole unique mechanic of poisoning other subjects beneath the Mauryans against them culminating in a total rebellion with all of them against your overlord while you form a true Nepali nation! On top of that you get the second strongest population growth modifier in the entire game at a full 0.1% *national* population growth for the entire game (on top of other bonuses)! The only countries to get a stronger one are the Fezzani tribes of Phazania/Nasamonia through their mission trees which can get 0.2%. Which hey, could be a great True Africans against Carthage type run itself.
23:08 @TheSocialStreamers if you do I recommend giving Yamato a try, only Japanese country that has flavor and it’s pretty good flavor. Qin and Qi are also fun in China. I forgor the country name but the country in Cambodia is also very fun. Ryokyu is a meme country but also a fun meme country. Korea is fun but can easily get clapped by a late game Qin, mid game Qi, or early game Yang.
I am a fairly new viewer so maybe iv missed it but iv never seen you have even like the small levy stacks be put on ai control to just help cap stuff just wondering why? because it seems like a really good QOL feature that i really like and im just curious why you don't like to use it?
At this point the "People are starving, I dont care" from Laith could be a meme. This happend more than there are sheep in Wales! Now to this, Bactria is an interesting nation due to their proximity to India and because they are so far away, their religion and culture is different due to lingering persian influence. Which means they were probably a bit more tolerant. The fall of the Seleukids and the Rise of the Huns and Parthians didnt make it easier for them. Oh well, it wasn't ment to be, even if it sounded cool. 😓
Great video ! Have you ever considered playing a celtic nation and form Galatia ? I don't know how it works in your mod but it might be pretty fun to playaq a celtic nation in the middel of Anatolia.
Does anyone know how 'Automatic trade" work. It is working while nation is quite small and compact. It is seem to be not doing anything arond the time I`ve become a great power.
Watching Laith try and randomly click around to find the cities in the province hurts my soul. Does he not know about the 'territory rank' mapmode which would just let him *see* the answer to his question rather than trying to click on each territory to find out? Seems pretty noobish of one of the biggest Imperator YTers after all.
You ever wonder if you could have a tank in the classical era? Fortunately, you can have something even better - historically accurate tanks in a strategy setting! Thanks to World of Tanks for sponsoring the video! - link.thenode.gg/LaithApr24
Can you please play as maurya next.❤
Love from India.
My dumbass thought he created a custom nation called "Bacteria"
your not alone in that thought
Custom nations in imperator rome would be cool
Funny it's how I call it on Rome2 Total war 😂

It really is a shame how little coverage and knowledge we have on Bactria and the Indo Greeks in comparison to the rest of the Greek civilization.
One of my favourite ancient history topics is Greco-Buddhism, I am reading a book on Bactria right now actually
In the future, you can use the "territory rank" map mode to see cities. It was actually right below the "holdings" map mode.

Imperator is such an underrated game, and I’m glad it’s getting some love right now. Plus imho it has one of the most beautiful maps in Paradox games.
Ayyy! Bactria is my favourite start in I:R and the Indo-Greek Kingdom is probably my favourite in history
My favorite as well. Such an odd sleeping giant of a nation.
Agreed! A great playthrough to do with clear goals throughout while being strong enough at the start that you actually feel like those goals are approachable.
arachosia into greco india is such a fun playthrough
bringing back one of Laiths favorite comments of "Laith should oil himself up like a true ancient carthaginian noble"
He's gotten really good now! Look at him take all that AE and not fall apart.
We are so Bactria
I read the title too fast and thought you were playing plague inc. or something
The history of Greco-Bactria is very cool. I'm glad you're playing as them and introducing this lost nation to UA-cam!
I think the dying problem is due to the amount of people in the cities. Like, the point where you said "I'm done with people dying, especially after the breadbasket stuff", the city had 59/19 pops ll

bactria was amazing campaign. funding cities in wastelands and going greek in india while fighting giant maurya was great

18:53 territory rank map mode is for that and also the atlas map
I love this nation in Imperator! Most of my time in the game has probably gone to this nation.
"Incredibly long tree, narrow and long..."
I saw that double take, Laith. You think you can edit it out, but I saw it. I saw it...
At this point the "People are starving, I dont care" from Laith could be a meme. This happend more than there are sheep in Wales!

Greco-Buddhism is one of coolest civilisations in history

the atlas map mode shows cities
Funny how UA-cam spoils the sponsorship by detecting the game played in the video as "World of Tanks"
Idea: In CK3 play as a custom character in Sindh and be Greek culture and reform Bactria
Very cool. I like the subject mission. Assyria has a similar one.
"People are starving to death, but that's okay." - Laith, 2024
