I came to the comments to say the same thing. In their last video when they described cleaning up the farm and the scrap metal but it wasn’t camera worthy, I thought “goodness I’d watch that too”! Where here for you both, not just your content.
Just a few days after my mother-in-law died, my husband who was extremely close (as I and our son) a grown Silkie just showed up at our property. We checked with the ‘closest’ neighbors and no one claimed the beautiful white Silkie. Silkie followed my husband every where. He would often be found sitting alongside our fire pit, with it going, and Silkie right there beside him ~ giving him much needed comfort in a way only an animal can give. It was such an incredible gift from God in a time of deep hurt and loss. We had Silkie for almost 3 weeks before an owl, unfortunately, claimed it’s next meal as Silkie came down early one morning from roosting. I have often thought it’s time to actually put together an area with cover from above! for a few Silkies 5 years in from that experience. I like Kevin’s practical gift - and the listening and acting upon what he heard. Wow! Though!
I love your silkies!. They are just adorable and will look great running around. I think everyone understands that Mother Nature has plans of her own. Can't wait to see what's ahead for you guys. Take care!
Life happens, right? That’s one of the things I like best about your videos, it shows life in real time for homesteaders. I enjoy watching your projects on the Homestead or the farm, but I also enjoy the chats in the Q&A‘s and the little bits of wisdom that come here and there. I also have to see how much I have enjoyed and used many of your cooking and baking videos. Kevin‘s bagels are the best! Moving from CA to TN, I feel so blessed to be in a state that’s GREEN all the time, but it does mean storms! Then it gets warm & the grass grows inches in a day, but you can’t mow cause the ground is so wet 😂. Anyway, just do what you can & enjoy those new babies…so cute

Many years ago My Mother bought Bantam hens. They were fluffy white and great pets. We had baby kittens whose Mother passed away and these Bantam Hens Mothered the baby kittens. It was so funny to watch them following the mothering hens as they were teaching the kittens to scratch around in the grass. The kittens slept under the fluffy feathers. Wonderful and gentle chickens. The males are a different story.

You two have great content that is unlike other homesteaders that I watch. Your calm nature exudes through your channel and right through my device. When I watch your channel I am not left feeling anxious. Rather my mind is clear and I am able to take notes, be inspired, and feel that I can do it too. I'm in SC, near the Georgia boarder. We have had so much rain, hail, and wind. I understand your struggles. On a side note: I love your cooking and preserving videos. We are saving for a freeze dryer currently. I can't wait to go back and try your experiments with the freeze dryer.

Wow, that's a crazy amount of RAIN! Here in western Massachusetts USA we have no rain in the forecast for the next 10 days or so. All year so far we have been an inch or more below the monthly average. April was about 1.4 inches below normal. I feel bad for farmers who depend on natural rain for their crops. The Silkies are adorable, not the very strange looking ones. And they fit in your plans of improving your independence. What a nice Mothers day present. Thanks for bringing us these videos, I love seeing the piglets. I especially used to see you let out the runner ducks. They were so cute. Thanks!
Happy Mother's Day!!! Love Silkies😊 I feel your pain dealing with rain (lots of it), severe wind, and tornadoes (14 tornadoes on Thursday here). Our ground can't keep up with all the water. Our grass was cut on the last sunny day. It needs cutting again, it's too long (the ground is too wet to cut). I worry about my garden with all the moisture. Yesterday, I get to go out and check my garden boxes (the first real pretty day)to see what has survived our crazy weather.
Mother Nature has sure been testing our patients this year!! We’ve had Extra Wild Wind!! Things are dry and dusty and the noise is starting to drive me crazy!! Seeing your beautiful shelves of jars in your Silkie brooder area made me wonder what your pantry and food storage is like. Maybe a video on how you do that would be Great! If it’s not perfect and organized all the better - real life and all😉 Hang in there!!

We SWORE that we would never complain about the rain... but now here we are saying," I need some sunshine! When is this rain gonna stop!"

We had a pet gray silkie rooster that lived to almost 14 years. His name was Easter and was our daughter's chicken. He loved being held and would sit with her on the porch swing. He also liked to ride in the basket on the handle bars of her bike. The coolest thing about Easter is he brood chicks, ducklings,and even a goose. We didn't need to put up a heat lamp. He was the heat lamp. Sure miss him. The new silkie hen isn't interested at this time. We also used Cochins for brooding and raising chicks.
After watching your videos I got 48 eggs and an incubator and hatched some eggs. I built a cage like yours and a plastic tub brooder to be ready when they hatched. I now have 30 chicks out of 41 eggs. Quail really grow fast. After several failures, I made a feeder like yours and problem solved. I have been watching your videos for years now and have been helped greatly even though I live in the USVI on St. Croix. We are mostly a desert island and heat and drought is the norm. We really need your rain. Thanks for all your work.
We had those on the farm where I lived and they were pets. So cute and their green eggs were just as cute! We kept them for a long time and one of those white ones got a foot disease and I would move her on her favorite spot on the hay pile daily. After a while, her toes fell and she voyld run on those little stumps she had. She passed in her sleep quite old. She still in my memories..💕
I have a small flock of silkies, all colors. I do keep them separate from my laying flock because they get bullied. The hens will set anything!! It's so funny to see them mothering chicks that grow so much bigger than they are. They are so much fun! You're going to love them.
Born there, been there, left there. (Living in Germany now.) They don't call it the State of Misery for nothing. All kidding aside, growing up there was priceless. Where else does the humidity and the temperature compete in the summer to see which reaches 95 first! Well, actually, quite a few places, but still..... All the best!

So glad that you guys have been blessed with rain since many other places are dealing with a lack of water. Plants can't grow without water so you have been blessed more than those struggling to keep their plants watered. Love the Silkies! Wish I had one for a pet, but where I live that wouldn't be allowed. So I will be living vicariously-sending love to your brood of silkies.
Do what you need to do. Most of us aren't going anywhere. We understand that life rolls like the ocean. Ups and downs. Weather is one of those things you just have to work within. Love the Mothers Day surprise. They are just adorable! I never really thought of adding Silkies just for their brooding capabilities. Cute, fun to watch and a solid job holder. Winner! And I never fail to be amazed at how you can always find a real work around to an issue, no matter how large or small. Changing the water and feeders out on the quail is just brilliant. Now thats a unique use for a cow watering trough. Heat is retained by the trough, less heat lamp energy use, and wide and high safe enough for chick movement in the trough. 10*

Praying the rain nourishes & doesn't destroy the land. I watch another family in the Ozarks also dealing with excessive rain. About 15 yrs ago here we had similar rain & I had my back steps sink (5 inches) & tilt . Makes that 1st step a BIG 1. Blessings!

I can't wait to see the silkies as they grow. And the upgrades to the quail cages are super. I can only hope that there will be an upside to the rain, like more wild berries or better deer hunting in the fall, better pastures for the cows and cattle, etc. Thank God it's rain and not tornadoes. I wouldn't mind seeing another recipe for quail. Or how you get them ready to store in the freezer. Have you freeze dried the meat from them or are they to small? You and your family are so industrious I imagine it's difficult to feel like your spinning your wheels during this rain. When checking the weather for the past three months we have been colder than normal and wetter than normal. We had rain yesterday, cloudy but no rain today, rain again tomorow. I was pleased because it looks like there is no frost in the fourteen day forecast, or the rest if the Month of May so can plant early. Yeah! If the rain stops! If it's not one thing it's another.

We got 10” of rain here in Oklahoma this week. Thankfully, I only lost three peppers. I replaced them today with six more. Lol 😆 Beautiful chicks, Sarah! What thoughtful gift.

We had a pet gray silkie rooster that lived to almost 14 years. His name was Easter and was our daughter's chicken. He loved being held and would sit with her on the porch swing. He also liked to ride in the basket on the handle bars of her bike. The coolest thing about Easter is he brood chicks, ducklings,and even a goose. We didn't need to put up a heat lamp. He was the heat lamp. Sure miss him. The new silkie hen isn't interested at this time. We also used Cochins for brooding and raising chicks.

After watching your videos I got 48 eggs and an incubator and hatched some eggs. I built a cage like yours and a plastic tub brooder to be ready when they hatched. I now have 30 chicks out of 41 eggs. Quail really grow fast. After several failures, I made a feeder like yours and problem solved.
I have been watching your videos for years now and have been helped greatly even though I live in the USVI on St. Croix. We are mostly a desert island and heat and drought is the norm. We really need your rain.

We had those on the farm where I lived and they were pets. So cute and their green eggs were just as cute! We kept them for a long time and one of those white ones got a foot disease and I would move her on her favorite spot on the hay pile daily. After a while, her toes fell and she voyld run on those little stumps she had. She passed in her sleep quite old. She still in my memories..💕

I have a small flock of silkies, all colors. I do keep them separate from my laying flock because they get bullied. The hens will set anything!! It's so funny to see them mothering chicks that grow so much bigger than they are. They are so much fun! You're going to love them.

So glad that you guys have been blessed with rain since many other places are dealing with a lack of water. Plants can't grow without water so you have been blessed more than those struggling to keep their plants watered.

My silkies are some of my favorites. Super broody, I've had 5 hens to 1 nest. We also use stock tanks as brooders and they work great.God bless.

Now thats a unique use for a cow watering trough. Heat is retained by the trough, less heat lamp energy use, and wide and high safe enough for chick movement in the trough. 10*

Praying the rain nourishes & doesn't destroy the land. I watch another family in the Ozarks also dealing with excessive rain. About 15 yrs ago here we had similar rain & I had my back steps sink (5 inches) & tilt . Makes that 1st step a BIG 1. Blessings!

We live west of Phoenix in Buckeye…we have the wind, but are praying for the monsoons to start before we shrivel up and blow away…too bad you can’t send us some of your rain! I can't wait to see the silkies as they grow. And the upgrades to the quail cages are super. I can only hope that there will be an upside to the rain, like more wild berries or better deer hunting in the fall, better pastures for the cows and cattle, etc. Thank God it's rain and not tornadoes. I wouldn't mind seeing another recipe for quail. Or how you get them ready to store in the freezer. Have you freeze dried the meat from them or are they to small? You and your family are so industrious I imagine it's difficult to feel like your spinning your wheels during this rain. But this video is proof that your always thinking and improving no matter what. You are to be commended. Prayers that the weather cleared of you.

When checking the weather for the past three months we have been colder than normal and wetter than normal. We had rain yesterday, cloudy but no rain today, rain again tomorow. I was pleased because it looks like there is no frost in the fourteen day forecast, or the rest if the Month of May so can plant early. Yeah! If the rain stops! If it's not one thing it's another.
