I've watched a lot of footballers playing and I still do, Cristiano, Messi, Figo, Rui Costa, Ibrahimovic, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Romario, Zico, Van Basten... now he have access to full games, a great sort of leagues, we can watch whatever football we want from the best teams. With Maradona I normally watched him play for one or two minutes every week, in a compact about the other European leagues, in a sunday sports tv program. But those one or two minutes were enough to realize how wonderful, different, powerful and Unique Diego Maradona was. The best I've seen playing football. Gracias, Diego!

Out of that chaos arose a beauty I for one never witnessed anything alike, and in some weird way it makes sense that it is Maradona's face that is painted on the bombed ruins in Syria and elsewhere to give hope, not because Maradona in any way lived an exemplary life, but that he despite all of his struggles and hard times was able to share something so beautiful and so unique, a light in the dark for many. I grew up when I was young on two teams, Milan and Napoli, Maradona and Careca, Gullit and Van Basten, Baresi Maldini and Donadoni. It was the most beautiful days of my life, and they were the strongest matches. How I miss those days.

Indeed! No doubt! He showed it in his football career: For Napoli, for Argentina, and also he carried Argentinos Juniors, who was considered a lowly team to second place in the Argentinian League. And there was a time that Diego didn't play for, I can't remember how many games, through injury. And people said, had he played, most probably he would have made them Champions too!!! He was a young Diego then!!!

Growing up When I was playing footy on the streets or on the grass I was Maradona, Valderama(Colombian Dredlocks), Hagi(Romania), Schillachi(Italian Corner Flag Dancer), Gazza, Baggio(Italian Ponytail), Romario(Brazilian Midget forward), Ronaldo(Brazil Balledhead forward), and later years a little of Berdkamp, Zola, Ghullit(Dutch Dredlocks), Zidane, always was one of these when I went on a mazy run with the ball :)

In Modern football, Maradona would be playing together with Baresi and Maldini in PSG … what ever happened to playing against the best players in the game. I truly believe that Serie A was so dominant back then because every team had so much quality that it forced all the players to elevate their game, Maradona included.
you are right - back then every team had great players in serie a - that is why Italians dominated Europe - but how nice would it have been to have seen Maradona play in serie a when Italian football was shown on channel 4 in the UK
In recent times, we see about 3-5 teams hording all the best players in the world. Barcelona is paying for that now. That tactic incurred a lot of debt and they could not afford Messi. But that's killing the game. I only watch club football when the best teams are playing each other. Everything else is a mismatch.
