    This is very interesting!
    I have been working to generate electricity with the aeolipilie... never thought about creating lift. Awesome!

      Well your name would certainly indicate as much haha. I actually am too. You should make a public playlist of anything useful you find out.

    I just learnt that drones can fly using Leonardo da Vinci's Aerial Screw. If you can make your aeolipile lift off using such a rotor, I suppose you've cunstructed a renaissance helicopter. Wonderful!

    The piston steam engine with direct drive and fast tube boiler with high pressure works for sure.

    What about pointing the jets downward. That should produce more lift. I’m going to have to make one now. Pretty cool

    • @anisotropicplus
      @anisotropicplus  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching and your comment. I think you are correct that pointing the nozzles more downward would generate lift. If the rotors were removed you should see lift from simply rocket propulsion if the rotors were pointed down. With the rotors on there is a trade off between overcoming the drag of the rotors moving through air compared to trying to get more rocket propulsion lift. If you build one please share your results. Thanks

    It is interesting, however, I don't understand when you balanced the weight to zero by keeping the Aeolipile on top and so even if it takes the lift off, it should not go above its weight. But it does. If it would actually take the lift off, it should show its weight in negative, not lesser than that. Tell me if I'm wrong

    • @anisotropicplus
      @anisotropicplus  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching and your comment. I rewatched the video myself to refresh my memory of that experiment. Since water/steam being ejected out of the nozzles would cause the balance to continuously move to a more negative number due to the loss of water weight it makes it difficult to distinguish between spinning rotor lift that would also make the balance go negative and loss of water. If you could spin the device without losing water once the rpm had stabilized the balance should show a steady negative number due to rotor lift. In this device where the balance is continuously going more negative due to a continuous loss of water if there was no rotor lift the negative number on the balance should have stayed the same when I removed the heat and stopped the loss of water. When I removed the heat and stopped the loss of water the balanced went less negative as it slowed down indicating loss of lift from the decreasing rotor speed. Thanks again for your thoughtful comment.

    Did the engine itself made any noise (without the gaz combusion)? Would you need to refill it with water at some point? So amazing thank you so much

    • @anisotropicplus
      @anisotropicplus  Рік тому +2

      Thanks for watching and your comment. You do get the sound of steam rushing out of the nozzles, but it isn’t very loud. Yes it will run out of water and stop spinning when it runs empty unless it is refilled.

      @@anisotropicplus Wow thanks for your quick answer! How fast would you have emptied that device (since it's quite small)? I'm wondering how much water/fuel you'd have to carry around if you use it as a small vehicle or airship...

    • @anisotropicplus
      @anisotropicplus  Рік тому +2

      @@Brubarov In this device for it to fly on its own it would have to carry not only the weight of the water, but also the weight of the burning fuel supplying the heat to boil the water. You would have to have intense burning of the fuel and a rapid expulsion of the water so flying time will probably be limited. If you have an idea for a device I encourage you to build one yourself and experiment. It’s fun. Thanks for watching and all your comments.

    Hi 👋🏼 if you use a container like a small tank and make a vacuum the water will boil at room temperature
    Then conect that tank to your Hero engine and it will work with cold vapor and less energy consumption.

    Now build a steam-punk/fantasy style airship, use a central boiler to power four propellers attached at four corners of a wooden boat using super lightweight materials, balsa wood etc, with gears you can get easily +2000 RPM and send the boat to the skies!

      I thought about that too, but you'd have to bring lots of fuel and water to burn, or make some sort of steam injector out of it.

    would bending the vents down and to the side help generate lift or would it be counter productive?

    • @anisotropicplus
      @anisotropicplus  Рік тому

      Thanks for your comment. That is a good question. Would maximum rotation of the rotors with horizontal nozzles or less rotation with some amount of upward thrust from nozzles bent down slightly be better? To be honest I don’t know. There is probably a way to test each orientation by the amount of lift force measured on a scale. It would be interesting to try measuring the upward steam rocket propulsion with both nozzles oriented vertically straight down and no rotor rotation, but I have not done that at least not yet.

    Try using liquid nitrogen next time, that way you don't have to worry about a torch.

      @@anisotropicplus I'd be interested what would happen if you attached a clutch to it and on the other side a small alternator/generator to see if it could generate electricity.

    • @anisotropicplus
      @anisotropicplus  2 роки тому

      Ok, let me think about that. It would have to be a very small generator. Something like what I used on a “drinking bird”. You can see that here.

      @@anisotropicplus Thank you kindly for your reply. If I may suggest something, would it be possible to build an aeolipile that ran on the reaction in which hydrogen peroxide would be decomposed into oxygen and water by a small catalytic converter , for instance one from a moped or small motorcycle. Hence reducing weight and drastically improving thrust.

    • @anisotropicplus
      @anisotropicplus  Рік тому +1

      Anything that produced rapidly expanding gas should work to produce thrust.

    Maybe you can try liquid nitrogen 😂

    • @anisotropicplus
      @anisotropicplus  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for watching and your comment. Liquid nitrogen may work initially, but as it evaporates and exits the nozzles it will cool significantly and the nozzle velocity will slow unless some form of heat is applied to the container. If you put a torch on it like I did with the water it should work. Just don’t do it in a small closed off room where you could get asphyxiation by the nitrogen displacing the air. Thanks again for your comment.
