Make Bath Bombs like Lush: the Ultimate Guide to Ingredients and Reactions!

- Ingredients & Reactions Explained! Learn the secret to making creative bath bombs just like LUSH!!! Lush uses 2 different recipes; a slow foaming recipe for the exterior & a vigorous recipe for the interior. Ingredients & reactions are explained in order to achieve these specific results/reactions! Each ingredient in this tutorial yields a completely different reaction in water! RECIPE: I made a huge batch of dry ingredients: 30 ounces baking soda, 15 ounces citric acid, & 5 ounces corn starch (sieved together & mixed up well). For each bath bomb: I took 3 ounces of this dry mix (measured it on scale) put it in a bowl, then added 1 milliliter of fragrance oil & 2 milliliters of the specific ingredient being tested [each ingredient is named in tutorial]. I only tested 2 dry ingredients, (sodium alginate & Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate). For the dry ingredients, I added 5 milliliters fragrance oil, & 2 milliliters of witch hazel (instead of water). NOTE: The more of 1 ingredient that you use may enhance the specific reaction that you're going for, but it may also accidentally stunt the bomb all together, making it a “dud”. Which does nothing except SLOWLY foam for a long time; there's no fizz, bubbles, or fluffy foam, or fun. A "dud" bomb produces thin, wispy foam that disappears right away.

As a natural soap/candle maker for over 25 years. People should stop buying over priced bath n body stuff like Lush. There are tons of smaller companies that do it better and cost much less! Great Video!😉
I totally agree! Thank you so much!
I totally agree
Thank you so much!
@@CreativeBathLab I am just starting to make bath bombs. Your videos are so helpful!!! For a beginner, it would be nice to now the amounts and ratios of these ingredients you tested with your rock hard bath bomb ingredient. I teach middle and high school and want to make these with the class.
I have yet to find anything that compares to lush… I would rather support small businesses
Thank you so much for making this video! I'm just getting into making bath products, and this was so helpful. I really appreciate all the effort you went to to make this!
this is the BEST bath bomb video ever- it is hard to pick a winner thanks so much!!!
You are so good teaching us. What a great teacher you are. Thanks a million time for all the info you gave us.
Can't wait to try this out! Also respect to the creator for still responding to comments months later :D
Always!
This is great , its like a chemistry lesson and fun too
Альгинат натрия + лактат кальция = лучшее сочетание! Спасибо за идею!
Lush my biggest inspiration to start to learn thanks for giving me the chance
Love watching all the different surfactants & emulsifiers act differently & independently. I usually use 1 - 3 of these ingredients together depending on what kind of bomb I’m making. I love making gravity defying buildable bubbles in my tub so I suppose I make more of a bubble bath bomb types lol....totally enjoyed another fabulous video created by this lovely lady! Totally my fav channel. 🥰
Awe thanks! Yes, I usually use 2-3 ing. Combos, too, but I didn’t want to confuse anyone. I wanted this to be easily understandable & straight forward!
@@CreativeBathLab Which ones do you tend to include? As a newbie I want foam and bubbles for my little granddaughter but don't want to purchase them all. Thanks for a beautifully produced and informative video
I usually use coco betaine for interior & SLSa for exterior!
You are a very talented and generous UA-camr! I greatly appreciate the great videos, the generous sharing of information and the detailed explanations! I truly appreciate you!
🤗
I found it!!!! This information is a gem, tysm!
You have no idea how much this has helped me! God bless you and thank you for your heart of sharing your knowledge & gifts!!
You’re so welcome!
Thank you for making this video! This is so helpful in learning the best ingredients to use. Love your channel! The demo’s are amazing.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you Dora! You never cease to amaze me with you knowledge!
You’re very welcome
Bravo Gracias por tanta información 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love your channel!!❤
Wow didn't know this about LUSH bath bombs. So informative on how bath bombs are made. Thanks.
You’re so welcome!
I loved your explanation. Thank you so much for sharing so much
I would love to know which of all the formulas you made is your favorite and if I can find all of these in your tutorials
I send you a million hugs
Yay I'm definitely gonna find you on fb I'm excited, this has to be one of my top fav videos you made, this is filled with helpful information. The ones that released bubbles are always my favorite to watch, thank you so much. 💗
I'm so glad everyone likes it. I decided to make this video bc one of my subs (Tara) asked about ingredients & I figured this would help. But, I was actually worried, & thought "not many people are going to like this... it's not creative.. it's just experimental results... yada yada". But, this is how I taught myself how to make bath bombs. So I knew there'd be at least a FEW people that really appreciated it! But I'm just so happy that you guys seem to really enjoy it. But YES GIRL, hit me up on FB. I just created it like a month ago so any/all interaction & feedback is welcome! lol
@@CreativeBathLab this is exactly what I've wanted. I've only made 2 batches and really wanted information on the specific ingredients so I can fix what isn't working. TY very much
There is another one just like this that goes over several more ingredients!
Your videos are just brilliant. God Bless you a thousand times. ♥️
😚
WOW, Dora, That was great Information. Thank you
You’re welcome Pam!
Muchas gracias 💜
Hi just starting and couldnt find a more detailed, clear, and generous tutorial. THANK YOU. Please do you have a tutorial testing differents colorants. I am searching for one that doesnt stain at all but cant find it. thanks so much !!
I love your channel. Your bath products are so beautiful.
Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for share your awesome tips!! 👏🏻👏🏻♥️
🥰
Always love your videos. Thank you
You’re very welcome!
Great video, very helpful, thank you for sharing
😉
Great videos. Question about measuring though - many bomb recipes call for "cups" vs ouces or grams. And while 1 c of baking soda may weigh 8 oz, 1 c of citric acid may weigh almost 10 ounces. So a basic conversion of 1 c to 8 oz and 1/2 c to 4 oz would give "incorrect" ratios? because it would actually be 8 oz baking soda to 5 oz citric acid (which is not 2:1). Should actual oz weights be used (8:5 oz) or basic conversion weights (8:4oz)?
Goodness you are so amazingly talented. Thank you so much
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for doing this video!
You’re welcome 😉
Excellent video...thank you!
You’re very welcome!
Thank you for this video! Very informative
Ur welcome!
Because of your channel I’ve finally found a hobby that I’m passionate about and sticking too I’m also on a budget and don’t have room for trial and error so I greatly appreciate all your informative videos they help me save time and money knowing what you’ve so kindly and generously shared with the world and that’s definitely very rare it seems these days a lot of people are greedy and selfish! Anyway I do have a question is coco betaine used for exterior since it’s slow reaction shows and then your SLSa shows it being vigorous so would it be an interior? If you could please let me know thank you so much for sharing your passion and gift!! Love your vibe and your channel bless you and yours!!
So informative! Loved it.
😘
Very well done! I would love watch a follow up video with your thoughts about what you think is best for different skin types of different occasions.
THanks. To be honest, I don't have recommendations for specific skin types.
Wow.. That was the Best.. Thanks for Sharing the Valuable Information 💜
No problem 😉
These were mesmerizing! Thanks!

Love this!
So helpful when learning to formulae your own recipe
Absolutely!
Wonderful presentation!

WOW, THIS IS AMAZING! THANK YOU :)
Very welcome
This is good information to have. Especially since you showed us how everything works, we can mix and match. Thank you.
That’s exactly what I was trying to do! Give you guys the next step in fundamentally understanding how to make bath bombs!
Thank you for breaking it down now i can improve on my bath bombs :)
😘
I had to really experiment with the ingredients to come up with the right recipe for my bath bombs with SLSA and Coco Betanie. All I wanted was for my bombs to float. So really I ended up with using 1/2 tsp of the SLSA and 1/4 tsp of the Coco Betanie to keep them floating. I found that they also helped keep bubbles in the bath when I just used my soap products.
Awesome! Yep, experiment after experiment I swear!
Thanks!!!!! love you 💕❤
YW! love you back! lol
Brilliant video so thorough
🥰
This is awesome!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 your a great teacher!
Thanks so much! Happy to kelp!

Loved this video! You did a wonderful presentation with tons of amazing info! Bless you for using coco b 🤣 I can't find that "magical" amount to use that doesn't cause my mix to activate lol usually that batch ends up on my walls lol
So glad you enjoyed it! I know what you mean, in the beginning almost every batch went out the window! lol
@@CreativeBathLab good to hear.....i thought the first batch would be easy.....no!
Dora, you're the best! Thank you so much for all of the personal help you gave me. I went with the Coco Glucoside, (the other would have taken too long to deliver 😉). And right now, I think I'm going to set up to do your bath truffle recipe (Moisturizing Mermaid 🧜♀️) , just the recipe though, I'm coordinating it with a CP soap I made, as gifts.
And this video, was soooo helpful, thank you for sharing your knowledge and your passion with us❤
I’m so glad you weighed in & liked it bc YOURE the reason I did this! I started thinking about your question the other day on which surfactant to use & I thought how helpful this tutorial would be!
@@CreativeBathLab That's awesome...you're a damn super 🌟 You are definitely becoming one of my favorite You Tube channels. Everything you do is so nice🤗❤ Thanks again, for everything!

Thank you for sharing this visual. Do you have recipes available on your Patreon that include the liquid surfactants? Id like to learn how to incorporate those…as well as the two different formulas you suggest for dry ingredients.
5 Stars! Great video! -Momo

can you do a video with sunflower lecithin as the emulsifer ? for the viewers that wanna go natural please . loving your tutorials
Thanks for sharing this information, now I know 🤔😚

You’re very welcome Helen!
Thank you!
You’re so welcome
Can you substitute the corn starch? If so, what could you use to substitute?
What do you use to colour them? Like bright vibrant colours (greens, blues) without staining skin or tub?
I haven't gotten too far in the video, so I don't know if you stated it, but...what type of marker or paint do you use to write on the bombs?
I knew you were from Louisiana! I would recognize that accent anywhere in the world! I’m from Louisiana also. Ty for the teaching tips.
You are so welcome! Love hearing from fellow Louisianans, Marilyn!
Thank you 🌹
You’re welcome!
Hi, very informative videos, would like to know can i put Castile Soap and Sodium Alginate both in one bomb? and if i can how much quantity of both should i use if i make a batch of 1cup baking soda, 1/2 cup Citric Acid and 1/4th cup of Corn Starch. ?
what kind of surfactant does the bubble bath use?
Thank you breaking everything down for us. You have helped me understand a few things tremendously! I do have one question, do you run into any problems with the molds over packing themselves?
I never ran into that problem before using the surfactants and emulsifiers.
You are very welcome! I actually have another video coming out this week that's the same style, different ingredients. No boo, never had that problem.
Do these ingredients replace something and when do I put them in how and how much
Congratulations, I really like your channel, I have never done any, but I am going to practice it, I dedicate myself to glycerin soaps, and I want to put together cases with bombs and soaps. When I do them following your advice I will tell you how it went.
Perfect! Yes, let me know
🎉❤🎉❤so nice
I’m your 1000 like!
😊
شكرا على المعلومات القيمة🥰
🥰
This was awesome to watch. I have never made a bath balm but, have all the ingredients to do so . I’m such a procrastinator lol. Just out of curiosity what was your favorite Dora?
Thank you for sharing
Yes, stop procrastinating & get on it lil missy. IDK, this was so long ago. I enjoyed the experiment a lot tho & enjoyed seeing each one.
Thank U dear 💕
Welcome 😊
Hey! Thanks for the info. Question, when you say a recipe for the exterior and Interior are you saying they Crete two separate batches and them mold them as one?
Yep!
You should do an in-depth video on all ingredients, used in bath bombs. I love bath bombs packed with skin loving ingredients and heavenly scents.. how do u get a good bath bomb packed with great ingredients that also work wells?
This video is amazing. Thanks for sharing. I can't find the ammonium lauryl sulfate.
You are so welcome! Try makeyourownbuzz.com
The Castile soap did you use the liquid if so how much ?
I didn’t know that much information went into it can you tell us which is the best to use or that you use I was making some for a friend don’t have time didn’t know about that extra ingredients it required but I am excited to start just have to get the rest of ingredients
I suppose coco betaine is my go-to & guar gum is my favorite right now... However, it just all depends on the type of bath bomb you want to make
dear how much u used of coco glucoside pls???
Tolle Videos. sehr lernreich. Gibt es ein Mittel das Schäumt wie Polysorbate 80 auf natürlicher Basis?
nicht, dass ich davon Wüste
Great video and very informative! Thank you! May I ask how you got the beautiful gold letters and hearts on the bath bombs? Thank you!!
Normally you can paint bath bombs after they’re dry with mica and a small brush. Dissolve it first with 99% alcohol so you don’t activate it.
Thanks so much! Claudia is right! After they dried, I just used a small paint brush & dipped it in gold mica & alcohol (makes like an ink). I was trying to keep track of different ingredients.
@@claudiagold1925 Oh ok thank you! Do you think she used a stencil? They seemed so perfect almost like a font. I really appreciate you sharing this info ❤️🙂
Thank you so much for your videos. I do have a few questions. I noticed while showing the ingredients in one of your videos it shows Epsom salts but I didn’t see you add it. Do you recommend it!?Also, since you use Polysorbate and Coco Betaine, do they foam and bubble? PS I’m in Louisiana too, I know all too well about the humidity. Lol.
Yes, LA is a hot & humid place. We won’t have power for another 2 weeks since Hurricane Ida so I’ve really been experiencing the hot & humidity on a whole new level! lol. Which video (for the Epsom salts)? Polysorbate is just an emulsifier, so no action there. Coco betaine is a surfactant & a foam booster.
It was in the first part of the Everything You Need to Know video. So, can I not use the Polysorbate and only the Coco Betaine or do they work together?
Thank you, this is so very helpful. How much Castille Soap did you add to your recipe, hope it's ok to ask.
YW! I dont remember, but the recipe is in the description!
@@CreativeBathLab Got it! Thank you, I must have overlooked it reading it the first time. 🙏🏻
lovely thanks and hope we are both well thanks 😅😮😅😊
Thanks
But how do you make them with the ingredients?
Hi I was wondering for just a bath fizz can I do it with baking soda, citric acid, corn starch, mica for coloring and essential oil? Or do I need to add sweet almond oil or any other ingredients?
That’s a great recipe, it’ll work! No oil necessary
@@CreativeBathLab thank you so much for replying to my comment. I'm glad I found your channel. Very helpful
@@CreativeBathLab wait.... You need a carrier oil if using an essential oil so it doesn't create skin irritation. Essential oils are extremely concentrated and tend to cause irritation if not diluted with some sort of carrier oil.
Hi I am Maz I am in Australia and love making bath bombs. O course my are nothing like yours. Love watching your videos. But I can't get most of your ingredients. Can you help me where to get some ingredients like yours. Thanks Maz 🌺
Hey I know you say don’t but do you have a video on making them with silicone molds?
I don’t remember saying that but to tell you the truth, I’ve tried… I’ve TRIED so many times & it never works out for me! Silicone molds just don’t offer enough support to get the bomb hard enough. I have the cutest silicone molds… so I always try (& fail)… there’s been so many times I can’t count!
Dora, what causes slight raised blisters on the bath bomb surface? Is it the citric acid activating? How do I prevent that?
ua-cam.com/video/Dx35OPNjuGk/v-deo.html this will tell you everything you need to know! Skip to the "common issues" chapter!
Great video! It is very helpful. Would you be so kind to answer a few clarifying questions: Did you add 2ML of Castile Soap to the dry mix to create that bubbly perfection? If an embed is added to the bath bomb, would more Polysorbate need to be added to the original bath bomb recipe to prevent discoloration of the tub? Do you happen to have your bath bomb recipe written as percents?
I don’t have percents boo!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hi Dora , I wounded if you could help me ?
I’m making lip gloss but I can’t get hold of polyurethane here in the UK 🇬🇧
is there something else I could use Instead ?
I would be so Grateful if you could help me ?
Kind regards

Can you pls paste the links of the color dye you used for these beautiful colors. I want those colors!!!
Yes, for you I will! lol I just posted them all, but you should also watch this: ua-cam.com/video/ckJ-3kiC8eE/v-deo.html
Hi sorry I’m a bit lost so each differently you used different types of surfactants & emulsifier? The one with castille soap, so the soap act as both surfactants & emulsifier? Cause some you only mentioned 1 instead of 2 ingredients. Hope you reply thx!
Read the description
Ah right sorry got it! Btw 2ml for added ingredients, for dry it converts to 2gr?
Can I ask what’s the difference between sodium alginate and sodium bicarbonate?
alginate produces a slime like consistency. bicarbonate is baking soda
This is better then HowToBasic's sanity that died out.
Total newbie here who for some reason thinks they can actually make these things haha. I watched both of your Lush-like videos and appreciate the information and great visuals. I'm just trying to combine the two videos to see what I should experiment with. Do you find that the dry or the liquid ingredients make the most impact? Also, I noticed you just used a fragrance oil without using a carrier oil. Is that typical or just for demonstration purposes?
First, you can 100% make anything that I do - it just takes practice! 2nd, I never do anything for demonstration purposes only. If you see it in the video, that's how I do it for real. Carrier oil isn't necessary here. I cant tell you which ones to experiment with first- just get in there & do it! Good luck & have fun!
شكرا لك ياعسل
مرحباً بك!
I like color bubbly foamy lathery
😉
Do you need bath bomb press mahchine?
Nope
How do u know how much to put per batch
all in the description hun!
