The gentle way he talked about his wife sending him a picture of a lonely Yu while he was on a trip and how it made him think it was a great picture made me cry... I don't know, something about it felt sad or kind. I don't know why it got me.
@bluegreenplanet89 yeah ive read it. I was also shocked by how much the markings on Mu's back actually looked like a skull. I thought it was just ito exaggerating for horrific effect but no, it was all true.
The instant he starts reacting, you can trust that he is an expert on loving cats. He finds the key point in each of their charm, praises their fluffiness factor, & contemplates what they might be thinking. We don't deserve Junji Ito. However, cats do!
I love what he said at the end about having a healthy, happy cat can lead to a healthy happy human. The emotional support that cats can bring is really right up there with dogs. They're great animals and Ito himself is just so wholesome
The fact that he's such a sweet nice dude but also has written and drawn some of the most horrific things known to the world is so silly to me. He's just a silly guy who likes to be spooky
Either that or he's such a marshmallow the works he made were based on what terrified he himself the most, who knows. All I know is he is 100% a treasure.
I could listen to him talk about cats for hours, his interpretations are so interesting- guess you can't expect anything less from the master of horror!
tbh it really gave me the idea of "you filthy lowly slave, how darre you put the great Mr. Mittens in this ridiculous costume, I will puke on your bed tonight"
I still remember my first experience with Junji Ito, I was at my local library and was just going through the Manga section when I saw one of his books and went “Ooh, never seen this before!” I picked it up, opened it up to the first page and instantly went “NOPE! 😧” and put it back! Turns out that going directly from things like Dragon Ball and One Piece to Junji Ito is *quite* the leap! 😛
It’s so sweet. I think Mr. Ito is such a relatable man. Someone may draw weird creepy spooky things but it doesn’t mean they are like big loud bad people. I played horror games before and someone told me it’s weird for him that a girl with a sweet voice plays creepy horror games. Well sweet quiet people can still be interested in those things. Mr Ito is such a gentle kind soul, this video makes me even more fond of him. I am a big fan of his mangas.
This was one of the first interviews I’ve seen of Junji Ito where the horror master feels so apparent! It’s a mix of finding the cats adorable but also the horror brain doesn’t turn off so he finds the grimmest things in the cutest pictures lol!
@river7222 I mean, his works were amazing and created eldritch horror. He's a good author and ended up regretting his racism in his late life. Dude was just pissed off, poor and malnourished, that fucks up your psyche.
let's say he's H.P. Lovecraft without all of the baggage. He was from a once-wealthy New England family that fell into ruin (which kinda fucks your childhood up), moved to New York (which is a brutal experience, just slightly better than moving to LA), never had success as a writer in life, was always sickly, died poor and alone....poor bastard lived a terrible life, guess you can understand why he was racist even for the standards of the period and scared of concepts like non-euclidean geometry, non-visible light spectrum, and air conditioning
Its kind of funny imagining someone coming up to him like "Yeah yeah cool stuff youve done but can we film you looking at kittes? No, just the photos."
I like to think when he says 'waiting for death to arrive', he means the cat is looking out for the Grim Reaper, in the way that some people believe cats can see the spirits of the recently deceased. "Oop, looks like we got a straggler. Bonesy! Get off your ass, there's a soul in the house!"
"I AM DEMENTOR, CAT DESTROYER OF WORLDS! FEAR MY EXPRESSION OF GROTESQUE MALICE AND HATE!" Junji-Kun : "Lovely and very auspicious cat. It reminds me of the joy felt from rubbing fine wet sand in your palms at the beach. Let's hope someone has a treat for this angel. Thank you I enjoyed that very much."
The psyche of the horror mangaka : Drawing manga is like a coping mechanism of nightmares he is experiencing it's a pump that pumps out the negativity from him
The way his eyes are darting around is a giveaway that crunchy roll are locking him in the basement and bring him out whenever their youtube views plummet down... JUNJI, BLINK TWICE IF YOU'RE BEING HELD HOSTAGE
about living healthier by having a cat, I've read about that as well... it's true. to me it applies so much, that I had to comment here. everyone going through lack of confidence and feeling lonely can find some company by having a cat coming to you and meowing, eating next to you and sleeping someplace close where you just want to keep him around. it's like a friend, more than that, a part of a family. it's really cool. and by taking care of it, making him stay happy, it makes me get happy as well, so it's a win-win kind of situation. I recommend everyone to have a cat.
That fact about cats bringing stability....its partly because they can live so long, and the other part is once kittens grow to be cats, they have a set personality and routine. My cat has a routine that wakes her up early and she goes to bed late because that was my routine when i got her in junior high school. Now 6 years later and she follows the same routine. My mom had a cat since high school all the way till she was in her mid thirties and was devastated when he died. Some pet owners will do everything to save their pet when they get sick because they are a part of the family. I know if i lost my doggo or kitty i would probably lose myself too for a bit.
So the man who's known for making some the most horrific horror mangas known to man is a really sweet and wholesome person in real life... he's like me! 😁
"The fluffiness is almost indescribably good"
I love this man.
Bruh this needs at least one comment
He's good looking❤
Everything he says is a brand new sentence.

I belive he illustrated a rendition of that story in his Cat Diary.
@bluegreenplanet89 yeah ive read it. I was also shocked by how much the markings on Mu's back actually looked like a skull. I thought it was just ito exaggerating for horrific effect but no, it was all true.
Is in his cat manga

"Expert on loving cats" that's a title worth having
His wife is a cat illustrator, check her out, her work is amazing too. Ayako Ishiguro. D: It was his inspiration too for this manga

Aww man if he met my current cat he’d be horrified. She’s a weirdly tiny seven-pound tabby who engages in aggressive play and won’t stop biting us.
