And today's "Great Lecture of the Past" episode is...
Hey Ben thanks for the videos. I watch your videos at bedtime. Your funny and knowledgeable. Watching chess helps me learn, and not focus on stressful life problems when I'm falling asleep.
Seasons change, as do world champions, but Ben's love of Perrier is eternal
Efim Geller, great theoretician in the openings. He was part of the Argentinian tragedy (or massacre) of the Gothenburg Interzonal 1955.
I imagine stadiums of people chanting "EFIM EFIM EFIM EFIM EFIM!"
Great lectures of the past!
What do I think about Geller? Efim.
Minor correction: Karparov did indeed kick Shirov's butt (+15-0=13) but it wasn't "over 25 years". Their first competitive game was in Dortmund in 1992, and their last was in the European club cup in 2004. They also had a draw in a simul in 1986, which is a pretty respectable result for a 14-year-old against the world champion.
Winning record vs Fischer
Yeah that olympiad team was pretty nuts, names not mentioned; Keres, Polugaevsky and Stein.
Great lesson, thank you Ben!
In the prtich game Qf8 isn't mate in Re6 variation because f8 is defended by the other rook.
Geller did play that famous endgame though where he produced an insane move/idea with black pieces. Sadly can't remember more details lol. I think there was a pair of rooks and maybe a minor.
Geller vs Flohr, where Black plays King from f6 to g7, only winning move and by far the stupidest looking one on the board?
It was two Rooks two kings and like 6 Pawns, but that move did strike me…. So incredibly dumb looking.
@@jackismname haha ye correct. I was wrong the move happened with a pair of rooks. But ye what a concept. Am not sure why kf7 isn't just the same though
Ben's lectured on that before, in the "10 greatest moves of all time" video!
@@Brian-ve7ds there is some intermediate rook check white can do on the open file and get behind blacks pawn before it queens, or thats what I remember cropping up in a lot of lines.
@@fingerprince_ oh yea thats where I saw it. I remember him hyping it up and saying look for the dumbest move, and you still wont find it. I did not and would never have found king g7 in a million years.
He is my 3rd best geller after Ross geller and monica galler
Actually it goes Monica then Ross and then Efim
Efim is probably the most funny of those three.
Ross is definitely last
Efim...no static at all.
32:42 after ...dxc5, doesn't d6 by white win immediately, trapping the knight?
Here
You can tell when it's Efim Geller by the way he smokes.
What about Yuri Geller....
Geller was the one Fischer was afraid of, lost more than won.
Ben Finegold, how can I improve my elephant gambit????
Bad opening anyway.
By making your opponent play it instead
@@dannygjkNot that bad. I got to 2200 blitz playing it
@@arsenalfanrichi I question the skill of players who can't deal with that opening.
Ruebenstein must not be forgotten
😂
Why is every lecture being re uploaded from years ago. There was nothing wrong with the original
They're moving the videos from the old CCSCATL channel to this one
true lol thanks
Smoking in every picture the truth hurts lmfao
Someone sponsor a great player of the presen: Nakamura !!
Fm gella
Before the game his opponents would remark, "I can beat this guy, F--- him!"
Then they play and find out otherwise! 🤣
Guess they don't get it.
If they were playing GM Anna Cramling they would be saying, "I can beat her and Effher too!" 🤣
Now try Portisch....ehe~
"F-ing" Geller?
Geller? I barely even know her
Cancel Ben! "If my student was black I would yell at them" -Benjamin Finegold
