Robert Burger was the author of "The Chess of Bobby Fischer." This game was played at the Mechanics Institute Chess Room, 57 Post Street, San Francisco, which is the oldest continuously operating chess club in the USA. Burger, who was about a 2400 player, was drinking at a Harrington's, a local bar nearby. Ed Harrington, the bartender, goaded Bob into playing and bet him $20 he could not beat Fischer. Bob, who was a published wine expert and who loved his spirits, took the bet. He was well known at the club and caused a stir when he too his board. Ed and his entourage huddled behind Bob, and after his win, Burger raised his hand and Ed paid him off. In his aforementioned book, Bob would not feature his game and it's listed in a note anonymously. By the way, Bob himself told me this story.
Antonio, Bob played thousands of games in the Guico Pianissimo vs. his great friend and chess mentor Guthrie McClain. He was drunk when he played this game, so his preparation was just his experience. Fischer knew Bob because they had met when Bobby played at the 1957 US Junior Championship in San Francisco.
Agadmator: “whether he is on the receiving or the giving end of this miniature that is to be seen.” Also agadmator on the title:”Fischer loses to amateur in 12 moves.”
Except that he wasn't talking about the same game, so the title wasn't really a spoiler. It was some kind of meta trolling the audience with the title.
Bob Burger was a top US 2 move problem composer. He also composed three-movers with his friend the outstanding RCO Matthews, winning many prizes together. A very congenial chap , he had 10 children, the last one an adopted black, and was a close friend of GM Nick Defirmian.
Lol. My grandpa named John owens and I've seen that name showcased for chess games. 1 guy was from like 1890 making to long ago for this to really be my grandpa. And one more that played Fischer making it my grandpa's time however Fischer opponent name is john c. Owen. And my grandpa is john c. Owens. I still had to show these games to grandpa.
there is an interesting line in the 2nd game where instead of Nf6 (not a threat but can avoid checkmate) , start with 1. .. Qxg2 2. Kxg2 Ne3 3. Kg3 Bd5 4. Kh3 Bc8 5. Kh4 Be2 6. Kh5 g6 7. Kh6 Ng4 8. Kg7 Bf6 9. Qxf6 Nxf6 10. Kxf6
4:17 you get this position where it's equal material, obviously white is up the exchange, but the position is pretty much equal, black is up a pawn. I have never been more confused my entire life 💀😅
Black has a knight and a pawn for a rook. He was actually slightly wrong there because knight + pawn is 4 points, a rook is 5. So technically white is up material, but its negligible.
This game is why top players demand that when they play simultaneous games that none of the players are really that good. For example, Kasparov was playing a simultaneous and he got upset when one of the players was rated above 2000, Such players have the ability to inflict embarrassing loses on the top players in simultaneous games as happened here.
I think Dennis Alan just got lucky when he came up with Nf6 he probably wanted to prevent the checkmate than it probably occurred to him the Queen was trapped than again maybe he was that strong a player he realized what he had done right away Great move !! 😊thanks Agad enjoy your day
Robert (Bob) Eugene Burger was also a Trustee of the Mechanics Institute Library in SF. I preferred the less serious environment of Hardcastles (coffee shop) for 5-minute chess in Berkeley (across the bay).
RCO Matthews was British , a Cambridge educated economist and economic adviser to the government. In his heyday he composed world class three move chess problems, some with his close friend US problem master Bob Burger of San Francisco.
and it was somewhere between this and the last video that Agadmator injured his finger, but there was nothing to be done, so he continued to drop this banger
I know he is hooded because of the hoody guy, but the theory he showed was so obscure sharpness, that I believe even the gms don't know it. So it was like he is selling some underground nastyness.
My next puppy already has his name picked out. It will be Medo. He will have his own chess channel for dogs. Or maybe dogsledding. Or maybe just a culinary channel. We will let him choose. I was a homeless physics major during Covid. Life was hard hungry and almost unbearable. This random man and his dog and the resultant nightly games of chess in the park saved my life, gave me some dignity and internal peace. There was a handful of intellectual homeless fellas in my homeless camp. We couldn’t keep our dogs. It was hard. We considered Medo our surrogate dog at the time. It’s the little things that keep a man sane in desperate times. Antonio will never know this, nor does he need to, but I will always be greatly thankful.

So this truly was a game talked about with friends at the bar (and probably library later on). Amazing.
Thank you, sir, for your vast knowledge
THAT, is f*cking amazing.
What a story, and thanks for sharing it.
Any which way, a Bob was destined to win.

Meta trolling? That’s a funny way to say clickbait
@@caveman-cp9tq How is it clickbait? He did show a game where Fischer lost to an amateur in 12 moves.
There’s a dude out there telling him friends he beat Fischer in under 12 moves and people are saying he’s a habitual liar
This is just a draw and then he proceeds to show the most crazy line ever 😂
One of the most disgusting lines I've ever seen
Yeah, like are there actual games that reached that ending position?!
He needs to make the video longer for more money
A TV talk-show asked Fischer, "Can anyone beat you?" He said, "Oh, sure, anyone can beat me. But not in a match of 20 or 30 games."
He also said “I’m not a chess genius, I’m a genius who happened to play chess”

Yea, Bobby and Garry were clearly going easy on those kids. If it were a real match, they would’ve squashed them without much effort.
Thats why Magnus never lost to scrubs

Qxf7 must be in the top 10 Fischer blunders.
Can somebody explain why, in the common line discussed, instead of Qf3, we don't have Bc6, with an attack on both the rook, and undefended knight?
Underestimated lol. You're saying Bronstein fell for this too? Wow
Nice!
Who records these games and how do you find them?
Well, it looks like I really can play like Fischer!
You’re telling me the inventor of the hamburger beat Bobby Fisher???

What is the tool used to move the chess pieces around while making these videos?
d2 to d3 would open the bishop to attack Qg5 but resigned he could’ve counterattacked most likely not

in 1964, fischer was 4 years old, not yet at the top of his game
Confusing, two games within a game

There’s crazy perpetual. Nh3 and nf2 perpetual. You can’t take knight with rook, otherwise you get checkmated
