    • @ahlishaholloway233

      Absolute and total nonsense. This rose tinted view of the past is completely at odds with reality. What else was happening in American schools in the past? Overt racism. Overt homophobia, "school discipline" aka the beating of children as school policy, bullying which was more vicious and socially accepted than now, I could go on. The notion that our generation has somehow "lost" a morality once held by those who came before us is reactionary bullshit and you're a fool if you believe it

      Everyone can have different moral values. Just because they don't align with yours, doesn't mean that they don't have moral values. For example, a utilitarian would be for having sex because it increases the individuals pleasure. It would be morally acceptable

    My mother a Guidance counselor said they caught students have sex in the cafeteria. Apparently other kids were covering/ being in the way. That is just genuinely awkward and nasty. I went to a super small school, stuff like that just didn’t happen. Our big problems were chewing tobacco and kids accidentally bringing guns to school because they were hunting. Now there are fights, drugs, and vapes that kids can’t put down.

    I think the major reason for this is the over-sexualization of almost everything. And as a generation, gen z has been told that sex is just that, sex, and that it has nothing to do with commitment of valuing and loving one another. So what happens? Everyone just devalues relationships, commitments, all that jazz, because nobody is held accountable anymore. That's just my take, but there's so much more to it, too, the entire sociopolitical change over the past couple decades has deeply messed up how we engage with one another.

    • @Azurethewolf168
      @Azurethewolf168 9 місяців тому +147

      Yeah, hopeless romanticism is dead. The days of people actually just getting along and then having a relationship are gone. For the people who actually want serious relationships now, it’s incredibly difficult, along with that cheating is so prevalent that it’s useless really committing since there’s no standards for trust or how to conduct yourself in a relationship.

    Bullying now is a lot more about public humiliation. Its very psychological and its about shaming people infront of their peers. As someone who was bullied in school, I think this has a longer lasting impact than just physical bullying which is definitely still around, maybe just to a lesser degree

Not to mention considering rap has been the most popular genre and most rappers just talk about shooting their opps… just because the type of bullying has stayed the same does not mean the magnitude is on the same scale as kids who had pagers and flip phones 20 years ago versus kids now who have instagram and a phone with internet access in your pocket

    I just graduated this past July and honestly I feel like I just escaped a building that's about to collapse. I've spent the last 3 years doing cyber school instead of in-person but I have younger siblings and cousins who are still in attendance. These kids are just a whole new breed now. The fact that, as a parent, you send your child to school and they could come back beaten bloody from a fight, feening for drugs they were peer pressured into trying, or revealing the fact that they're a soon-to-be parent. Kids are not taught to have any morals. For those of us who came out of school normal... We didn't graduate, we survived. I know it sounds dramatic but this issue is very underplayed.

    • @gordo3152
      @gordo3152 9 місяців тому +83

      Not to be contrarian, but none of that is new. Boomer used to say the same thing about our parents when they went to school back in the 80's and 90's. If anything, it's way better now, as physical violence and bullying, drug use, and teen pregnancy are down quite a bit from the 90's. It's just that people had a more "Oh those darn kids getting into trouble again, those little rascals!" kind of attitude back then, while modern media has placed an exaggerated spotlight on these things now making it seem worse that it is.

    All the things that you described are the problems that I’m glad my high school here in Spain doesn’t have. Yes, just like other schools in Europe, you were right about how there is no scholastic book fair anymore unless it is in primary school and how there have been cases of students vaping in the bathrooms which made entering them to be forbidden before exam week, but everyone here has a dress code which doesn’t let all students wear crop tops in class or any Euphoria themed clothes that you described, which explains why students that don’t wear uniform, once they reach Sophomore year, dress up like characters that could’ve been in Equestria Girls. Thank you so much for covering the topic of high school that I never talked about. In conclusion, there are things that my high school has been keeping since the 2000s that American schools don’t have anymore, such as loyal high school couples or seeing a short student do a slam dunk after years of not participating in PE.

Other teens being obsessed with social media, other teens obsessed with other peoples relationships and their past relationships, I can’t even go to the bathroom in peace during passing time between classes because there be like 4 or 5 guys just hanging around in the bathrooms and not even using the bathrooms. Socializing has become a downward spiral as well. I wish it was the late 1990s and early 2000s a time where social media didn’t have so much of a impact in society really.

    Honestly I am so glad I was never put in a American school. Because French schools are the complete opposite, they don't let you go to the bathroom for that long, bathrooms are separated by girls and boys, the only people who ever vaped were the seniors and freshman. But they got caught and stopped. We barely have fights, and honestly our teachers are really fun. Us 7th to the last grade do not get involved in anything sexual except for REAL relationships, we actually find someone we love and try to gain trust and get together, but some of my friends are just straight up hoes. They just get in relationships and then dump them. Thank god French schools are still the same, since i've been there for 12 years.

Although the one thing I'd agree is in at least every american school are the hoes; it's pretty much impossible to get a gf at this point unless you're a 6ft 11/10 male model cause all these girl's have stupid ass standards. It's not like anyone would wanna get with them anyways cause they're all terrible.

      Most of that sounds like American schools. People aren’t allowed to stay in the bathrooms for very long. People just skip class and do it anyway and it gets the bathrooms shut down for everyone. People here look for relationships and have years long ones. Of course theres also hoes though. Bathrooms are separated. Though some people ignore it though because they identify themselves with whatever they want. Fights rarely happen and are broken up almost instantly. My school sucks but it sounds like everything at my school could happen at yours.

    I noticed a bunch of stuff that changed in schools. I'm comparing it from the time I graduated and haven't spent more than 6 hours in that building for the past 10 years now and my nephew who is currently in elementary.
    The ratchet girls. Back when I went to school they were incredibly rare. There were about three of them and no more but they dressed more normally. Now from what my nephew told me, there are around 5 in each class.
    Bathroom, I don't even want to start with that. My nephew told me three days ago about a situation that questioned my life. Back when I went to school, they were actually safe and sanitary. As long as you did your own business, no one cared.
    The athletes: When I went to school, I was one of the more sportier kids. I was not ripped like the rugby players but more in an athletic way. I broke the school record in the 100-meter race and everyone talked about it for three weeks straight until it fell out of relevancy but other kids still recognized me. Now when I watch a school basketball game, there's this one kid who carries his entire team, and no cheers for him.
    Clothes are a completely different story. I always ankle shorts and wore baggy clothes and everyone else dressed like that or just casually. Now I see like 12-year-old kids wearing Gucci and Versace for school and it doesn't fit at all.
    Relationships. I was in a relationship in high school with a girl from the cheerleader team and we had a very stable relationship. I'm not together with her anymore but we are still very good friends and we had this weekly high school sweetheart thing, where every week a couple would be selected and mentioned in the school newspaper. One of my friends got cheated on by his girlfriend. Basically, he caught her having *** in the locker room with one of the rugby players and after that whole situation he was depressed as hell and the girl apologized. Now from what my nephew told me, the older kids have like three different relationships per month and they are toxic as hell and cheating is normal for them.
    Lunch is something different. When I went to school it was like 8 out of 10 times great, like made from god himself, and in the worst case they were just edible but Friday was the day everyone evaded the cafeteria because that was the fish day. Now when I pick my nephew up from school, we go to a McDonald's or KFC because I already know that he hasn't eaten anything. He also sometimes sends me pictures of the food they are serving and I am telling you all that the stuff he gets for lunch is a straight-up crime to serve to kids.
    Gym class. When I went to school you either participated or you did your homework which was pretty rare since your grade would be affected by your participation in class. These days my nephew told me that like 70% of the kids in his class are overweight and can't even run for 10 meters.
    Bullying was very different back then. It was more about being jealous of someone else. Most of the sports team didn't like me because I was able to do 30 rounds of the Acer pleb test without breaking a sweat. It was also more physical like pushing someone around or smacking the books out of someone's hands but it wasn't really that common because the principal was the most feared person in school. Now it happens because of the most random reasons, and it's mostly about someone who doesn't have designer clothes and there is also the cyberbullying thing.
    The fighting, I don't want to talk about that, back then it wasn't that brutal because the teacher would instantly interfere but now I hear stories about school fights where the teacher would just straight up watch and wouldn't do anything.
    Slang. When I went to school we all used only two slang words which were yo and sup. Now I hear like 80 different slang words which I have to search up to understand the meaning of them.
    Teachers. I only had two types of teachers. The old ones who were generally respected, did their job very well and also were mostly nice because the students respected them. I also had younger teachers who were the closest people. For example chemistry and physics teacher once told us how to build a nuclear weapon step by step, what parts we need, and what process has to occur. Now my nephew told me that he has young teachers who are more than just incompetent.
    And the last thing I want to say is about the kids. When I started high school I absolutely had zero knowledge about the building outline and where the rooms were so I asked a few students and they were very cooperative and helped me a lot in my first year. Now students are an absolute nightmare to talk to. When it's parents' evening and I don't know where a specific room is, most students would just straight up ignore me or tell me to shut up, which brings me to the final point of respect. I don't know what happened but these days kids are so respectless towards elder people.

So basically there's more love/healthy relationships with no cheating at my school.

    I was at a public school for only 2 years. (Kindergarten, 1st grade, and a tad bit of 2nd grade) which I am extremely grateful for. But I can still remember how horrible the schools were becoming even then, and even at an elementary school. The schools were so out of control and my teacher was so strained between keeping the kids of a calm composure and actually teaching that she’d use me as a teacher too. I always finished first so I’d do paper work for her, take assignments to the teachers lounge, gather the kids for recess, and grade some of the paperwork. I got to be homeschooled after a few incidents with the school, such as kids throwing chairs and scissors at teachers and not getting punished, 4th graders smoking, and children being punished unreasonably while the bad kids always were left without a scar.
