  • Welcome fellow S3 fanatics, it’s Peter, your Audi S3 Fanatic! Ever since I took delivery of my S3, I have wanted to accent it with some carbon fiber. I started with a CF rear diffuser and recently took delivery of CF mirror caps. Both my rear diffuser and mirror caps were purchased from China.
    Yes, you take a gamble buying parts made in China but IMHO, several products sold by US venders for our S3, are Chinese made. With the good luck I had for my rear diffuser, I thought, why not take another chance on the mirror caps. These are with side assist.
    Well, I can tell you, these mirror caps are SPOT ON! Check out my video for a full DIY tutorial and review of these CF mirror caps.

      You're going to love the stopping power of the TT-RS brakes over the OEM single pistons. My TT-RS retrofit fit video should serve you well. I added one additional item (not in the video) which you may want. Since I track my S3, I ended up buying a set of TT-RS heat shields to protect the lines from the radiating heat of the rotors. It's not completely necessary, but I think it offers piece of mind. With respects to my 18's I haven't tried fitting them but seeing that I only have 4mm of clearance with the aftermarket 19's, I don't think the 18's will fit.

    Hey Peter! I'm a new subscriber. I recently purchased a used 2015 Audi S3 and wanted to add some CF accents as well and just ordered me a pair of CF mirror caps :) Before I install mines, I wanted to reach out and ask you a question. I can't tell if your side mirrors are the power folding ones or not but my question was is it safe to bend the side mirror back the opposite way like you did in your video if it is power folding? Appreciate you making these videos. They are really helpful for people like me. 🙏👍

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  5 років тому +1

      Hey Eric, congrats on the purchase! You'll really enjoy the S3. To answer your question, my mirrors ARE NOT power folding so I cannot tell you with conviction, if the mirrors are safe to fold backwards or not. Perhaps you could try slightly? If there is a ton of resistance, then do not attempt it.

    • @justindunn71
      @justindunn71 5 років тому +1

      I did this on my 2015 S3 with the power folding mirrors. I did move the mirror around and push it forward. No issues since. There is a "normal" amount of resistance when you try to do it but it wasn't overly hard.

    any advice on how to remove the rear diffuser of the s3? i could use some tips, thanks

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  6 років тому +1

      The method I used to remove my rear diffuser wasn't the safety for your OEM unit. I would recommend that you start by removing the screws from underneath. Then you'll have to unclip the right and left side, then finally the middle portion of the diffuser from the bottom. At that point, you'll need to pull as the OEM diffuser is clipped into the bumper with roughly 10 clips. It will take some force, but just take your time. Good luck...

For some reason my passenger mirror won't go out all the way, it moved every direction, but once I try and move it out, its like its getting jammed. Bruce, I would pick up mirror caps and spoiler from reputable vendors who have shown to have good feedback. The problem with many items coming from China, is the quality. Many of these CF piece don't hold well over time and start to fade, discolor, or warp. It's a gamble unfortunately.

      @@TheAutomotiveFanatic hey thanks fir the reply. I first try to put the 2 clips in on the top. Then when I try to push in the middle, the top comes out and the bottom goes in, seems like I can’t get it to clip in. Is there a certain position the mirror motor needs to be angled? Are the clips on the top supposed to secure the mirror as when I push it into the retainer, it can easily come back out

      @@bensafalow6083 I reviewed my original videos and for the mirror motor, it looks as though it slides into place. You just have to make sure it is aligned properly. Look at part 9:18

    do you also have the installation video for the diffuser?

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  6 років тому

      dvo, I do have video footage of the diffuser swap. However, due to the aggressive and poor removal method I used, I did not put together a DIY.

      i'm gonna change mine in a few weeks, its just 3 screws on the bottom and pull right?

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  6 років тому

      dvo, it's a little more involved than 3 screws. You need to unclip the bottom half of the diffuser as well as the sides.
      I've had quite a few request to post a video on this and I just may do it.

    easiest way is to pry it out from the top, its just clips that holds the top cover

    • @TheAutomotiveFanatic
      @TheAutomotiveFanatic  4 роки тому +1

      You can do it that way, but the chances of clips breaking off is higher.

      @@TheAutomotiveFanatic Seems like it is like picking what to damage in the process. Last time I remove the mirror glass, the mirror adjuster motor was damage while removing the glass. So I would prefer damage the clips on the cap than breaking the mirror glass or the adjuster itself. At least the caps are going to be replaced anyway, if you are removing it.
