  • Learn how to change the headlights on a 2007-2011 Toyota Camry, with or without fog lights. I polished my headlights for a couple of years, and that worked for a while. After 2 years, they got so yellowed that I couldn't polish them to clear again. So, I installed aftermarket replacement headlight assemblies. This video will show you how you can do it yourself and save a lot of money versus paying a shop to replace your headlights.
    If you just need to change your headlight bulbs, check out this video showing how to do that: • Change Headlight Bulbs...

    Did you use OEM Toyota headlight assembly or aftermarket ?
    If aftermarket, what brand/manufacturer ? Are they of good quality & would you buy them again ?
    Thanks

      Hi Scott, thanks for watching and for your question. I used TYC aftermarket headlight assemblies and would definitely use them again. They were cheaper than OEM and I couldn't tell the difference between them and the OEM lights. I bought them through RockAuto.com (I am not affiliated with RockAuto or TYC in any way), and I have been pleased with both the supplier and the product.

      @rkgsd 7 років тому +6

      Did you see the CAPA Certified versions of those headlights at Rockauto? Not sure they're worth paying more for but supposedly they fit more accurately. After 2 years, how are your TYC's holding up?

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  7 років тому +23

      Hi, I'm sorry for the delay in answering you...I just now saw your comment. Yes, the lights I bought are NSF/CAPA certified. They fit perfectly and continue to perform as well as they did when new. I've had no problems, no yeloowing, etc from these lights. In fact, I had to replace the headlights on my son's Ford Ranger and I bought the same brand and line of lights for his truck. Thanks for watching!

      I agree, i purchased 2 TYC brand headlight assy"s at rockauto.com, not only did they fit perfectly \, they looked better than the OEM ones on my 2006 Grand Prix, gonna buy both same brand for my newest car 2007 Camry Hybrid

    My 86 year old neighbor and Best Friend who I do things for came to me and said the Dealership wanted $1300.00 to replace his badly faded Camry headlights, which he just doesn't have the money to do. He can afford the lights. Your video shows me that I can do this for him in a little over an hour or 3 beers*. Thanks for making it. Good job on the edit and presentation.

      It's been 2 years now but you don't even have to replace the OEM headlights if they are working properly, if all that's wrong with them is the fade then you could buy a quality restorer like the one 3M sells for $25 or even cheaper restorer like one I recently also tried sold by turtlewax for only $8, the first one will restore them to like new conditions very easily and the second will be pretty close. $1000+ or just $8 lol

    Dennis, I just wanted to personally thank you for posting this extremely helpful and detailed video! I hit a deer on my drivers side headlight that broke the insides of the assembly. Body shop wanted $2000 to fix some minor body damage and install a new headlamp. Since my 2007 Camry is 10+ years old, I can care less about the minor body damage. I ordered new headlamp and watched your video 6-7 times = mission accomplished!
    For future viewers, I want to add it is possible to not remove the entire bumper cover if you only want to remove one headlamp. I just left the pin on the other side of the inside wheel well and that was enough for me to disconnect and remove the assembly and put the new one in.

    Clear instructions. Followed and did this myself over a long afternoon. Went ahead and changed all the bulbs while I was at it. The blinker lights are way easier to get to this way. Might as well just do them all. Dennis, let me know the next car you get so I can follow along on your next videos. Cheers!

      Thanks for watching, TJ! I'm glad this helped and yes....you are right. It is much easier to change the blinker bulbs while the headlight assemblies are out. I can't imagine why anybody would design a car so that the fender wells have to come out to change a light bulb! Anyway.....I'm glad they don't have to be changed often. haha. I'll be sure to announce the next vehicle on my channel. My son just bought a Ford Focus, so we've started doing some videos on it now. Thanks for your support!!

    When I first started watching this video I was wondering what have a I gotten myself into. I knew I couldn't return the purchase because it wasn't the seller's fault for not knowing the challenge ahead, so I decided to tackle it anyway. I knew the video was about 18 minutes long, which meant with editing and my usual luck that it would turn into a 2 hour job -- minimum. Boy was a I wrong. It took 31 minutes, including gathering and putting up tools and having to go get the headlights out of the house. Thanks Dennis for a very detail instructional video. Depo was the aftermarket brand of headlight assembly I bought & installed.. They fit perfectly.

      Toyota, the car manufacturer designed this car. LoL. I thought this was outrageous at first. I came from an era where changing a lightbulb meant changing the entire case too, but all things considered, the clip is really easy to remove and you don't need any special tools to do it.

    Good morning from NJ! Dennis, thanks very much for posting. After procrastinating for quite some time, I broke down and bough a pair of replacement lights for my wife's 2009 Camry and planned to install first thing in the morning. Instead I opted to start around 10:30 PM and finished about an hour later. I'm happy to report that the installation went very smoothly as a result of following your video tutorial TO THE LETTER. Dennis:
    1) A friend and I just did this on a 2010 Camry SE (six-cylinder!) yesterday. Thank you very much for your clear, measured, thoughtful instructions; yours was absolutely the clearest I found. Saved a bunch of money (although my friend did require a couple of bandaids, from some underneath-work cuts).
    2) On that 2010, underneath there were outside 10mm screws, but the majority of the fasteners were those stupid plastic rivets, exactly the kind that you discuss, up top, at about the six-minute mark. Would've been SO much easier to use a socket down on the ground, instead of trying to deal with the edge/gap aspect of all those pieces of plastic (a bunch of which we butchered on removal, but we had our own supply of assorted plastic rivets for backup).
    3) Regarding aiming the headlights, most instructional videos and text sites on the matter recommend different heights for the two sides, so that there's a sort of "step up" when going from the driver's side to the passenger side (in order not to blind oncoming traffic). You might want to add a text overlay that mentions that.
    In any event, thanks again. It was a real pleasure learning from someone who knows how to teach, not just how to do something.

    • @dwcoffey

    Appreciate the video Dennis, I could not put the changed H7 headlight globe back in and had to remove the whole thing, per your instructions. Your Camry has H11 bulbs and a plug, Mine in Australia has H7 bulb without the wiring plug, same year grouping. The trick with the H7 holder is that it is not symmetrical and the locking tabs are not at 180 degrees, more like 160 degrees. so if you try to install it with the wiring on the opposite side, it just wont lock in. not enough room between the fuse box and the lamp to see what was going on. Anyway removing the whole fixture made it really easy. Thanks.

    Excellent video. It really helped knowing ahead of time what was involved. One minor thing I did notice was that on my 2007 Camry, there are large rubber gaskets around the high and low beams to prevent water from getting inside the light assembly. I had to transfer them from the old to the new assembly. For some reason, I didn't see those in the video on either the old or new assemblies.
    Overall though, great video, and will check for more videos in the future if I need to fix something else on my camry.

      Thanks for watching, Zachary! I've had a couple of people say they had those o-rings/gaskets on their bulbs too. Our 2009 has never had them, so I don't know when that changed, but some models apparently do have those gaskets. Something to be aware of when changing bulbs.

    Watched to help me change the headlight assemblies for my '11 corolla. I like the wider angles to show just where the bolts are. Excellent video.

    Great video very detailed and informative. I'm about to do the same to my mom's 2011 Camry. She had a wreck and the shop only replaced 1 of the assemblies. Didn't even bother to call and ask if we wanted to pay for the other side🤦🏻‍♂️. So 1 side is clear, the other side is foggy. The shop said for $450. Labor, They can replace the other side of plus the cost of the assembly 😡.
    Thanks for the video 🙂

      Thanks for watching, Raymond! Yes, the shop really should have offered to replace the other while they had it apart....it would have only taken a few extra minutes and saved you some trouble.

    Thanks for the video, Dennis. Watched your video and did the entire project, including washing up, in 42 minutes. Used Toyota headlights.

    Almost perfect guidance for my 2007 Camry Hybrid . Only issue was they changed the plastic rivets on my model and mine broke using his method. I just swapped a couple from the weather stripping since Toyota uses like 12 of them across the top of the front end. Took about 1 hour & 15 minutes even with checking the video on each step .

      Thanks for watching and commenting Joseph! I'm glad the video helped and I'm glad you were able to improvise with the plastic rivets.
