      If you dont have a screwdriver you can also use a 8 mm wrench because it has a bolt with a screwdriver head. I used a 8mm ratchet wrench beats sitting there fighting with getting the screwdriver in there.

      When you say your headlights were too low did you mean the entire assembly was lower and created a gap between the hood and lamp itself? I got in an accident and i had a headlamp replaced but theirs a gap between the hood and the lamp itself and im wondering if adjusting it like in the video would manipulate the entire lamp height itself or just the bulb. Thanks if you can get back go me.

    Thanks for the video! I have a 2007 Lexus ES 350 (Camry style). Once I figured out where the adjustments were and which way did what, I was good to go. I had already had it to the Hendrick Lexus in Charlotte NC and paid them to do it, but then found there was no change in the aiming. The right one was way off. They said that was the best they could do. Apparently, they didn't know how to do it either! I used a 1/4 inch deep well socket on a ratchet with a phillips head bit to get the right length for the high beam. They're all set now and I'll be asking for a refund of my $60.

    Great video. We JUST bought a 2020 Toyota Corolla and are having issues with the headlights. At first they were so low we easily outran our headlights and when we went down hills, the lights totally disappeared. Toyota (Modesto) adjusted them (they said about 5 inches) higher for us and now we are getting flashed by everyone thinking we have our bright lights on. Last night my husband got pulled over by the CHP regarding the lights. We'll be taking the car back in to be fixed - again. Seeing your video makes me wonder why it was done wrong in the first place. Looks so easy. QUESTION: Is there supposed to be a "V"-shaped shadow in the middle of the light beams? It's super distracting and if someone were to stand in the middle of the road we would not see them due to the "V" dark shadow. Are these lights defective? Still can't believe a brand new car would have these issues. My husband was in a head on collision a few weeks ago by an idiot passing passing on a blind corner (Hit and Run). Having this light issue is causing him more stress than he needs right now. Thanks.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  4 роки тому

      Hi Elizabeth, thank you for watching! I can completely understand why the headlights would cause some stress after a hit and run like that...I'd be the same way! There should not be an unlit portion in front of the car between the headlights....at least not more than 4-5 feet in front of the car. It sounds like one or both of your headlights might not be installed correctly, and that they might be aimed to far to the left and right.

      Thank you for watching! I've always been a Craftsman tool guy, but a friend of mine gave me a set of Irwin screwdrivers a few years ago. They quickly became my favorite screwdrivers....the grips are nice and the steel used to make them is just right....hard enough to not bend or dull at the tip but not so hard that they chip.

    Hi Dennis, thank you once again for this video. I have one one more issue with headlamps, the left (driver side) head lamp is focused towards passenger side and i see one more adjustment screw on top. do you think it is for horizontal adjustments. (the head lights i brought are for after market). your reply is much appriciated.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  9 місяців тому

      Thank you for watching! The Camrys I've worked on only have a vertical adjustment for the headlights (and a lot of other models are like this), with no horizontal adjustment. The only things I can suggest are: 1) make sure your headlight assy is properly mounted, 2) check for any damage on the front end that could cause horizontal misalignment, 3) some assemblies will allow you to place a shim behind a mounting point to correct for horizontal misalignment.

      I use Sylvania Silverstars for my low beam bulbs and they are very bright. Some people have experienced short bulb life with these bulbs but I have not. Mine are 5 years old and still going fine. You may want to try a different brand of bulb?

    Thank you sir! I had new headlights installed on my 07’ Camry but he didn’t adjust them so I couldn’t see very far at night. This was simple, thanks to you. How much higher could you possibly go w/o blinding oncoming drivers? (in inches on wall from 20 feet)

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching, Fer! If you set your headlights any higher at 20feet than they measure at 3-4 feet, they will be very bright to oncoming traffic. I suggest setting them no more than 2 inches above the measurement you get when the car is 3-4 feet from the wall.

    Great video. Is this adjustment done on high beam, or low beam? This levels driver and passenger lights relative to each other, and to car height. And will this setting be optimum for low beam viewing distance, and high beam viewing distance? Thanks.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  6 років тому

      Hi David, thanks for watching and for your questions. Yes, the headlight adjustments should be done on low beam. You are correct, the first check and adjustment levels the left and right headlights to each other and insures that the light beams are essentially level pointing forward. The 2nd check/adjustment makes sure that both lights are pointing slightly downward (on low beams) so as to give good illumination without blinding oncoming traffic. By setting the low beams at a slight downward angle in the 2nd phase, you also insure that the high beams are properly set for max illumination on the road. I hope that helps. Thanks again!

    I just changed both light fixture assemblies and the bulbs for my daughters 2007 Camry. I drove it last night and they were out of whack. Planning on the alignment tonight based on your recommendations. I noticed the rubber boots around the bulbs were missing on your Camry. Should I have not transferred them from my old rubber boots to my new light fixtures.

      Thanks for watching! My Camry was not outfitted with rubber boots from the factory. If your original lights had them, you did right by transferring them to the new lights.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  5 років тому

      Hi Hussam, and thanks for watching! It will depend on the car. In my example here, the 2006 - 2011 Camry, there's only one adjustment screw on each side and that screw will adjust the low beams and high beams. You should always adjust using the low beams only in a case such as this. Some cars will have separate adjustment screws, but not very often.

    Hi, having problems with low beams on 2007 Camry. Put on 10k lumens and still can't see. Also had the outside lenses cleaned. Just wondering if adjusting would help or do I need to replace the complete headlight. Service man said sometimes it doesn't help to clean the outside even though they may look clear. My low beams have an opaque look and not sure if that's right. Thanks

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  5 років тому

      It's hard to say Belle. Depending on what type/brand bulbs you installed, it could even be the bulbs. Were the lights ok before you replaced the bulbs? Could also be the inside surfaces of the headlights need cleaning. If you haven't had a wreck and they were doing ok before you replaced the bulbs, I doubt that adjustment is the problem.

      @@dwcoffey thank you! No, the lights were not okay (dim) before we changed. We got the led lights thinking this might help. You adjust these with a long #2 Phillips, take the Phillips and push straight down into the hole made for it, the Phillips notches fit into the gears on the wheel and then you can adjust the screw up or down with ease. The gear has no other purpose than for a Phillips to turn them, it is not turning another gear as one would think they are for, it is for adjusting only.

    Good Video, but you need a very long screwdriver to do this the proper way. @ 4:24 on the video you are showing the adjustment screw, you are adjusting it from the back, the easy way is to adjust it using a #2 phillips screwdriver and engage the gear on the back of the adjuster by inserting straight down between the tabs and rotate the adjuster that way. I see a slot in which a screwdriver can fit between the guides and engage the gear on the back. Much easier to get to the adjustment.

    • @dwcoffey
      @dwcoffey  5 років тому

      Thanks for watching, Karen! Great suggestion but you can only do it that way on the passenger side, and I wouldn't really recommend it because the adjustment gear is plastic. After doing that a few times, you will possibly strip the gear teeth and then be unable to keep the light in adjustment.

      Hi Sam, checking the lights and setting them at 5ft or so from the wall shouldn't hurt anything. Basically at that point, you are making sure they are at the same height relative to each other. It's possible that it might make them a touch too high, but not enough to bother oncoming traffic, etc. As far as not having a groove in the adjustment screw.....does it have a hex head on it? If so, just use a socket or nut driver instead of a screwdriver.
