Even if they didn't make a gross margin on their car sales (which they currently do) they have enough cash for the next 6-7 years ro cover selling, admin and R&D costs - much healthier than most newish EV makers.
I believe batteries CAN last for 10 years but the bigger question is when that time comes, will a battery be available for the model of vehicle that needs one? Will battery advancements obsolete older vehicles?
@@iSot80 Do you understand the cost that EACH manufacturer would incur to provision the extra batteries, the property, the equipment and the staff to support such a an idea? A battery is not a simple unplug and plug back in, there is a complete BMS system that manages liquid cooling to the battery as well that would have to be disconnected and purged during a swap as well. This is nothing like swapping a battery in a TV remote. You also have to add in a complete logistics system to make sure batteries are transported back and forth to where they are needed when they are needed. Seems simple but is highly costly and complex if you actually attempted such. I this was so simple we would already have the ability to do ICE engine swaps by pulling up to a station with an old tired engine and pull a way with a brand new engine 10 minutes later. Too much competition, too many standards and too many new innovations and improvements at all levels for this to become practical for the foreseeable future. Great idea in maybe 40-50 years from now once we hit the limits of our knowledge.

Ten year warranty doesn’t mean anything if the company doesn’t stand behind it, or goes belly up. EV is the future like it or not, now there's lot of political smearing that's all. I just went to Taiwan and realized the air there is so polluted compared to china.
@ it won’t be in our lifetime. I will give you an example. My brother works at the Alliston Ontario Honda plant where the Canadian government gave them $50 billion dollars to build an EV plant and get them out by 2030 or something like that. Honda Canada has told the Canadian government to sit down and shut up as they haven’t even broken ground on the new plant. Their realistic expectation is at least 2050 because it will take at least ten years to build the entire facility and get it running. The reason? The entire production line has to be redesigned for the increased weight of an EV. If it is the size of a Honda civic but weighs as much as a ford F150, you cannot slap the vehicle on the same moving conveyor and think that is ok. You will damage everything, making downtime more expensive, repair costs more expensive, production costs more expensive. EVs will never be cheap for people to own, and they will never be the vehicle to do cross country driving because the infrastructure is not there and it won’t be for years. Electrify Canada has built TWO charging stations here in Nova Scotia in the last four years. Everything else has been built by various companies and not all of the chargers work. A lot of the, have been broken and unrepaired for the last few months. Electrify America has built seven since Biden became president and they were given something like multiple billion dollars-I forget how much exactly to build their charging stations. Look at the companies that have folded around the world trying to build and install EV charging stations.
