Hey, Nick. Thanks for stating the loop wasn't as smooth as you had hoped. I showed you the teardrop wall bar I made today; however, I also made two drum tables and I wasn't happy with how smooth those came together. It is always nice to realize my challenges aren't always unique to me. What I love about woodworking is growing - every day. It was GREAT to meet you today. Your poignant stories were so impactful and inspiring. I can't imagine how hard the prep was for the session, but you impacted the entire audience in ways you'll never imagine. I'll certainly be following you from this point forward.
Hey Irene! Definitely not making anything perfect over here! Thank you so much for attending the presentation and I hope despite my delivery, the message still connected. Strange thing to be so vulnerable in front of people. Great to meet you too!
I really appreciate your channel as a whole. I think custom furniture, where the designer actually gets to be so fluid and is able to tweak as they go, it’s just an incredible result in the end. I personally love the addition to the lamp in this video. Please keep up the creativity, I appreciate creators expressing themselves artistically in their furniture.
That’s just cool. Your work is just cool. I think I first discovered you making that modern workbench. Your work in that was just cool. This is just as neat, if not more.
Dying for the next video, hope everything is okay brother been a while since your last upload and been checking daily lately, love your videos and your craftsmanship!
@@SawyerDesign hi-loks are a type of aircraft fastener where the collar that the socket fits into snaps off at the proper torque, so for removal you need to grip the smooth collar. the offset is so you don't scratch the aluminium of the aircraft structure. Looks really good. That shaper origin is a very cool tool👍Quality over quantity always! That's what separates the people worth watching from everyone else. Nerds are the best to watch also👍
Love the lamp man, I've got to try to tackle some light fixture projects despite there being millions of different lights on the market. None of them seem to fit our taste.. keep killing it
Fascinating work and an even better video! I'm 25 and have been woodworking from a very young age. Recently I have been feeling like creative design and handcrafting can't be appreciated because of the "CNC side of woodworking". How to justify the time it takes to make something by hand and with love when it can be produced by CNC and with no skill?
Thanks Aron! CNC definitely takes skill, it’s just a tool to help achieve precision and scale a business. I personally like the idea of saving the time for the hand work where it matters and finding efficiencies where it doesn’t. CNC isn’t really different from a planer to thickness material, at least how I’d use one.
Thanks Rick! I might try that. Thought about tapering, but veneer is tricky to do anything to without busting it up. Great thought though… I’ll have to think on that. Would look better than a butt join.
Very nice addition to the lamp :D My experience with shoji and rice paper: Mist it after the glue is dry with a little bit of water. When it dries it will shrink and get tensioned like a drum. I never saw this on YT, but in my shoji book it's one of the essential steps for good shoji screens
I love... lamp. 😂😂 Man, this thing looks awesome, Nick! Was wondering how you were doing a few days ago, and lo and behold: here's another epic build! Can't wait to see what you've been up to, but I totally agree with you on quality over quantity.
So awesome. If you are not happy with the rice paper glue up use some rice water... Sound ridiculous I know but you wet the paper and your glue surface clamp everything together and while the water evaporates its pulling the paper along so you get some really nice tensioned surfaces
Nick, I liked this video because it was a "doesn't matter if it turns out sucky" concept test. After watching you voodoo s**t into existence that is flawless and mind-blowing, it's an interesting palate cleanser. I don't know how much weight that lamp body will support, but in some of my lighting projects, I used very thin plexiglass that I sanded with 220 or 320 (don't remember). It diffuses the LED light perfectly, and doesn't accidentally rip. Also, I'm in agreement with your stance on b**bs.
Excellence as always! Question: is there a reason to not bevel the start and end of the veneer put in the vacuum press so they overlap? Never done anything like this, but that seems like it may be a good way to blend the two ends. Especially if they come up a bit short.
Hey Brooks! That’s a great idea. I tried doing that, but the veneer is so fragile, I was having a hard time producing results that were clean enough to make work.
Nick, you aren't saying you love lamp because you are looking at it, right? What can I say. I concur on lamp. I loved lamp, now I love lamp. I love lamp!
Love the lamp. I have been a furniture geek for decades, which primarily got me into woodworking. But I have to ask...Where did you get the reading chair? I want one!!!!!
Thanks! Not much in this shade. It’s been a weekend project while I work on this coffee table and all the coursework I’m putting together. The lamp in total has quite a few hours of design work and maybe 50 hours to make total

By subtracting where it is from where it isn't, or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation. TBH it looks like an overgrown desk lamp.. haha. Kind of a weird living pixar lamp vibe.
Some of your designs are overly complicated and may seem cool but because they do not adhere to the basic aesthetics principle Phi, they don’t fall quite right with me. At least that’s what I thought. But this one is just nice, plain and simple. Wish I could have this at home.
Your opening joke nearly killed me 🤣
I really like how that lamp shade turned out.

That ‘little reading chair’ is my favorite, the Imola. Nice lamp too.
That shade makes all the difference. Love it!

In my experience, I always loved how figuring out one project gives me ideas for future projects. I'm glad you mentioned that, too.
So true! Everything builds on itself
As a long-time subscriber, I appreciate your commitment to avoid mediocre bullshit. Awesome lamp brother.
Enjoy great content over quantity every time, thanks
Nick you have some of the most wild and creative ideas when it comes to woodworking. I need a bestie in life like you. 👍 🤣
Love this! It somehow sets the piece off in ways I can't describe! The rice paper was a great touch! Thanks for the inspiration, man, truly!
Hey I appreciate you taking the time! Happy to share the spark ⚡️
While stumbling through Facebook videos last week I saw the same clip about making ink. Love to learn things like that. Great lamp by the way.
Such a cool process. Had no idea ink was aged. Thanks!
Putting aside all the obviously marvellous work here, that monitor setup looks solid :)
Another fantastic build. You know I appreciate the (not so) subtle humor. Lol.
I checked your channel out after Cam from blacktail studios recommended you. I subscribed after watched this. Thanks.
I liked it before but this definitely improved the lamp. Love seeing the doggies too!!
Thanks Nikki! Hunter (black) and Dutch (heeler) btw.
"I love lamp" brilliant line!!!!!! "Are you just saying things you see around?" 😁

Hey thanks so much, Alan!
Great design and nice light distribution from the rice paper...
that is gorgeous 👏👏
I can never get enough! You stuff is so legit. Yes sir, ordering a shirt now! 🤟🏼🫡
Super cool man. I enjoyed added background info about the paper and the calligraphy ink in Japan
Nick awesome job once again love your videos
Dying for the next video, hope everything is okay brother been a while since your last upload and been checking daily lately, love your videos and your craftsmanship!
Whatever u do, does not seem mediocre to me, bro. Nice video again. Keep rock'n
Nice work nick. Looks gorgeous.
You are a master, of both the woody craft and the viddy one as well. This was an incredible watch!
Simple and elegant Nick! Beautiful! Look forward to the next build!
Wow. Stunning piece, Nick.
Thank you kindly Jeff!
Thank you for all your hard work and sharing the process with us. It's beautiful.
My pleasure, Talon. I appreciate it and thanks for taking the time to watch!
The lamp looks great and i'm looking forward to the coffee table
Much appreciated!
you are definitely missed, great design and implementation, love it!
looks amazing. for removing stripped or broken screws, nuts etc. look up hi-lok removal pliers :)
Interesting! They look similar in the jaw, but that offset looks nice for ergonomics. amzn.to/3nFJhX7

Very very nice. Love the videos.
May I ask who does your video editing? It's a great balance between narration, music, detail and speed ramping.
Appreciate that man. I do everything! Been a steep learning curve on the video side
Great video as always! You are freaking amazing!
Nice one mate! Looking amazing! The rice paper was a great idea
Love the lamp man, I've got to try to tackle some light fixture projects despite there being millions of different lights on the market. None of them seem to fit our taste.. keep killing it
Thanks Tanner! They’re fun to make! I’ve always liked designing them, but first one to actually make.
So cool dude!
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Josh!
Brooo, Brohamlet, Brohampster! Cool build. Looking forward to the next one. WHERE did that chair come from though.... Must have.
Great video love the lamp glad to see you put out a video can’t wait to see to see what you do next
Thanks so much, Jim!
Looks great. Well done. If the “hand tool only” guys didn’t hate you over the Panto they do now. 👍
spectacular as always Nick, you are an artist, I love it. All the best👍
Really like this piece. I do miss the longer videos but this hit just right. Great work!
Awesome, thank you!

Wonderful addition to the lamp. As for the amount of content, just keep doing what you are doing (as if you need me to tell you that).
Amazing, Nick! Really fantastic work! 😃
It turned out more than beautiful!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
brilliant once again !! Question is there a reason you did not use a scarf joint to meet the two ends of the veneer?
Thanks Rick! I might try that. Thought about tapering, but veneer is tricky to do anything to without busting it up. Great thought though… I’ll have to think on that. Would look better than a butt join.

lightly spray the paper with a spritzer bottle. It shrinks the paper tightly.
Great tip! I’ll definitely give that a try. Thanks!
simple very nice
Well you've been inspiring me since your first video, you'll hit 1 mill subs, it's not a matter of if, but when. Keep making amazing projects man
Appreciate that Dave!
Nice! I watched the same calligraphy ink video it was SO good
I love... lamp. 😂😂

Not sure about rice paper, but Japanese tissue paper will shrink nicely after a light mist of water.
Ask any balsa airplane modeler. 😎
👍👍👍👍
Instead of using rice paper, I have used Mylar Velum to use as a white diffuser.

Thanks for the tip!
To get in the spirit, grab some Japanese woodworking shoes. Toe separated from other digits. No clue what advantage they afford, just cool.
