I had just finished a 12 hr nightshift straight to the pub for breakfast and a few beers!!!!! What an amazing game. I was so glad to be in the pub with my rugby team mates!!!! What memories. ❤
England may never end up with a team as good as this again. Martin Johnson lead as the best captain the country has ever seen. Jonny Wilkinson never faltered under pressure. Lawrence Dallaglio, the big man who was deceptively fast. The fast sprinting Jason Robinson. Matt Dawson’s grit. I could go on and on…

I want to add this as an Englishman the kick from flattley to take it to extra time was pure guts imagine the pressure on that guys shoulders truly amazing but we won because we had that killer instinct
Always a pleasure to see this. England had such a great team at that time and Wilkinson was just phenomenal. If only our current team were anything like as good but they are way off the class of 2003.
Tommo and Ben came to finish their careers at Brive. I’ve lived here as an Englishman since 2008. Great honour to meet these superb men on the small town’s streets. So sorry for Tommo’s later rugby-related health problems. Proud to have got to see and meet them. 🏆 🏉
I have been trying to figure out why Wilkinson was picking up grass before each kick of his and it just hit me that it would show him the wind direction before he kicked and he’d do it like 2 times more before confirming and kicking off!! Simply genius 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
All those years ago. I was a prison officer and about to serve the tea meal to about 160 prisoners. i can tell you now, the tea meal was late because i could not move from the TV. Every single prisoner understood and respected what was about to happen.
12 years prior to this match, the 2 sides met in the 1991 RWC Final at Twickenham. The Wallabies prevailed on English soil. For England, this was the ultimate way to get their revenge; revenge that had been coming for 12 years: A role reversal from 1991, except this would become (and still is) the only RWC Final to go to extra time. Sydney being the venue, the rest is history…
Rugby was just so much better in the late 90s and early 2000s. I don't what it was about it but it had a much higher tempo, more intensity and less fluffing around. Glad I was able to play and watch rugby in it's prime.
The English pack back then was absolutely sensational, the perfect balance of brutal strength, ruthlessness, experience, and phenomenal skill. I always think back to a friendly in Sydney just before these finals. English throw near halfway just before halftime, they set up a rolling maul and just absolutely destroyed the Aussies, an almost total rout. I think they gave away a penalty near the line in the end but everyone watching knew what they'd just witnessed.
Well due to dire tv over the festive season ...have watched all the games England played up to the 2003 world cup final ! AWESOME......! What an incredible performance by both sides ! Shame there had to be a losing side..........I LIE ...yeah we won !!
@@Leifr952 when playing yes but all supporters will criticise decisions. How this ref could ever conceive that England were infringing at scrums when they were marching the aussies backwards is laughable.
@@soddof7972 Right. But why preach respect for the ref when it knowingly isn't universally practised within the game? If players do it then why not the supporters?
I remember people standing outside shop windows that had televions to watch the end of the game, while they did their shopping, in Leominster, Herefordshire.
I watched the original game and it was great.....Watching the game again nearly 20 years later i never realised the hidden gem at 17:52 ...possibly one of the most beautiful women i have ever seen....top centre.
The comment at 27.46 sums it up and if the England football team are going to win a major tournament they need to be the same and then they will 29:41 win the WC - just!
Even as a middle-aged man, I get a little choked-up watching this. One of the greatest sporting teams-of any sport-of all-time. Up there with the glorious Austrlian cricketers of the mid-nineties. I often come to watch these gubbins to escape the nausea of our broken world.
Remember this game for the Referee who brought his 3/10 skills to a final and almost wrecked the game. Definitely wasn't as good as the players that shared the pitch.
That referee very nearly screwed England over... England clearly the more dominant team in the scrum and breakdown but the ref seemed intent on making it a close game... but the mark of a truly great team is they can adapt to anything.. overcome anything even the ref... and they did
Oh absolutely!! Yet no one mentions this... England winning the World Cup really masked Andre Watson's performance. He is either being incredibly insubordinate or (my opinion) completely biased. He very nearly cost us our victory.
Funniest part of this particular final is that Australia came out with a far better national anthem singer, you can even see the wallabies almost crying when they sang.... Only to have Johnny Wilkinson come along and drop kick goal right on the final seconds 😂😂 and make them lose.
Jonny changed rugby...Carter was one if the men who copied jonnys work ethic and then became such a class talent...but i think the trend setter Jonny was the best.
I love England and love the blood, sweat tears those blokes put in for us the Country and fans but guess what? after learning about Steve Thompson early onset I hate to say it but that lads 42 years old and now talks about what rugby has taken away from him, things have gotta change and stop treating the players as fighting dogs cos thats exactly what they are doing something must change otherwise lots more young men and women will end up not knowing their families cos of the extensive contact training where the brain i like a jelly being smashed around their skulls yet I don’t want padding and helmets cos it would kill the game and make us look daft and stupid like those pricks in the States, big discussion is desperately needed. 6:14 Never realised that the english player kicked larkham in the face and split is lip open. It was a fair penalty to England for Larkham holding onto the player, but then it should've been a reverse penalty for for kicking him in the head with malice intent. In todays rugby thats a red card lol, back then maybe just a yellow.
Why did Australia kick it out at the end with 2 minutes to go you dont want to kick it out so England can win the line out then kick for goal, Why not just run it and run down the clock maybe even get a try or drop goal yourself but no 30 seconds left they kick it out WHY ? that's how England got the ball back !!!! Run the ball untill the the end ,
Because tactically an opposition lineout on halfway is better than open play on your goal line. One mistake "running the clock down" and you're losing.
Every time you show England winning the World Cup in 2003, it just reminds me of how many times they lost the World Cup, and in their own World Cup in 2015, they didn't get out of the pool stages. England has never been a threat to the Southern Hemisphere teams and never will be, it just shows money cannot buy them a win. LOL
Andre WATSON had obviously never played in a scrum in his life ! The penalty after JOHNSON had said he had to ping the Aussie tighthead was a fine example of is ineptitude. The next scrum Baxter literally threw himself to the ground making no attempt to engage or bind on Woodman and the resultant penalty must have given WATSON a great deal of pleasure. He allowed the Aussies to be offside at the ruck preceding WILKINSON'S drop goal and before that each of FLATLEY'S penalties took enough time to make a brew , have a smoke and read the news before he actually kicked the blood thing ! Not because we beat SA on route was is it Andre ?
