The way I interpreted Beast From Beyond is it's like a metanarrative commentary on modern Hollywood's obsession with remakes and sequels. Extinction was a film series which Wyler made and was happy with Exodus being the final movie in the franchise. But the producers demanded more, so Wyler reluctantly began work on a new Extinction movie, and the project was managed so badly he wasn't even sure if it was going to be a sequel or reboot. That's why it's set in the Nightfall facility, but there's the garbled Dr Cross radio message implying it's set after Exodus. Ultimately the project was axed and Wyler never got to finish The Beast From Beyond, that's why the map is so small and full of "plot holes": literal wormholes between dimensions which allow the main characters to escape and return to the movie theater, and what allows special zombies from other movies to invade this map.
@@Stanley557maybe they shoudve given Willard a line like “how did you get here, This isn’t finished. LEAVE! You can’t be here now, if he hasn’t already seen you he’ll see you now!”
This series is the reason I made an effort to try IW zombies and I'm really glad I did. It's not perfect, the zombies hit you from a mile away (though I'd argue WaW is worse) and some maps can have too many different enemies at once but it's such a fun and unique take on zombies. I'm not super into the story of IW zombies, I do love the silly melodrama of the Aether and Dark Aether stories, but I appreciate the focus on just being fun and wacky. Especially since if Cold War, Vanguard (minus the Dark Aether area) and MWZ are anything to go off of, zombies is gonna be sticking with towns, cities and military bases for the foreseeable future. Regardless, fantastic series and will be rewatching this the second I post this comment. Really hope this video gets the views and support it deserves. Can't wait for the Extinction video! (and the Vanguard video in like 8 years)
@@Stanley557 It wasn't even the quality that made the community go ballistic but the very existence of the game. As it was the third futuristic game in a row, the fatigue from the setting had already set in during BO3's first year. i have like 500 hours in IW zombies and i think a big part of it is just how much love was poured into it. it has some blemishes for sure, but man if you can look past them theres some real fun to be had
Spaceland and Shaolin are still my favourites tbh. I prefer them two to most BO3 maps which is definitely a take I know but i was a film kid in college just as IW started its year so the idea of everything being based off an era of film with a hoaky OTT director as the villain really appealed to me. Shame beast from beyond didn't go for a more Alien style nostromo ship for its map though. Feel that'd work best while still having kinda the same vibe.
I’m not sure id call it a “failure” Tbh I actually liked it better than Bo3. Before zombie chronicles, IWZ felt more in the spirit of Cod zombies to me. I honestly loved the Fate & Fortune card system, it's probably my favorite version of the mechanic introduced by gobblegums. I didn't like how it was random which gobblegum you'd pull from the machine. However, F&F cards were tied to a charge mechanic like Cold War field upgrades, and you could activate any card you wanted when it was full. The drawback was that once activated, a card couldn't be used again unless you refilled your hand at the F&F vendor, and you could only use it a few times per game. I also liked how you could choose to use the refill at any time, even if you still had cards left. You the player had to make a choice: should you use all of your cards first before refilling? Or is it worth using a refill early because you really need that one particular card?
Definitely my favorite map has to be Rave in the Redwoods, as someone who grew up with my parents quoting Jay and Silent Bob and me watching and falling in love with Comic Book Men. Something I feel like that could have made the slasher better, if they were truly trying to go for slasher villain, would be if you could stop it temporarily. In the slasher films, after an exorbitant amount of force, the killer is knocked out. Great video! I have always been a fan of IW zombies but this made me really think critically about some of it's flaws which I could not articulate myself. Treyarch and other develops should really look at what this game did well in the future since the rewards you get for completing easter eggs such as directors cut single handedly make this a worthwhile experience. That being said I think you were a tad bit too harsh with Beast From Beyond. Despite the map being the worst map in IW Zombies it is miles better than most of WW2 zombies and Exo Zombies imo. Keep up the great content!
I dont know if its been mentioned, but you were wrong the rat heart. It can kill as many zombies as are in the radius. Ive killed entire hordes with it before
@@Stanley557 no yeah its literally amazing. Its better than any other tactical grenade. And the devs even made it so as soon as the zombies are affected, they get stunned so you are rewarded for divebombing yourself into the horde
I honestly would have preferred that the theming of the maps stuck to the 80s, and just represented different sub-genres of horror. Spaceland already represented sci-fi horror films like Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Rave can easily be slightly retooled to be 80s, as it's already representing slasher films like Friday the 13th. Shaolin could have swapped 70s kung-fu (which isn't even horror) for 80s supernatural films like Ghostbusters. Attack could have been reworked into being specifically based on 80s Zombie films like Return of the Living Dead. Beast should have been scrapped entirely and a map based on either action horror like Predator and set in a jungle (if you had to throw Cryptids in, they could be put here since Ghosts did have a MP map based on Predator) , or based on Hellraiser 2 and be set in a disturbing hell world (which would tie in with Mephistopheles). This would also allow for the maps to be far more cohesive character wise, as the characters would be more like their Spaceland selves, just in different outfits but playing the same 'character'. Also sticking to the 80s theme would mean the awesome licensed soundtrack from Spaceland carrying over into the other maps.
This is easily the best zombies video I’ve seen on UA-cam! Great work. Any chance you’re planning something similar for black ops 3? (Or already have, I can’t find it if you did)

@efrainrodriguez8973 thank you and I'm sorry but the lack of defensive options is geinuely one of the game's biggest faults 😭 it infects nearly every portion of this game besides mephistopheles uniornically
@@Stanley557 yea i understand I love the game for it difficulty I actually rank it next to bo3 in the number one spot for zombies. Just for it being so much fun to me. I love the shield in all of the games but iw i think works better without one cause i dont like easy games. Its why i hate CW and just find it boring. Its not challenging in the slightest. But i cant deny the hitbox and collision issues. I dont face them that much if not at all since i just mastered the zombies movement in the game but still can be a struggle especially in shaolin and beast.
You know what they should have done for The Slasher? They should have made him easier to kill, but he would come back after a few rounds or so with a random, damaged form, kind of similar to Jason in Friday the 13th.
How to fix the slasher one make him killble only outside of rave mode so basically you go into ot he spawns then he comes after you out of rave mode and if you have friends they can kill him with you being in rave mode
Little correction on your comment about the charms on Rave: You said it's non sensical without a guide, but the parts and where to put them are highlighted in rave mode 😅 I really liked the map for its looks and since playing it again this year I learned so much about it. Still no spaceland tho.
@Benator97 that is fair, just felt there were gaps in their logic like finding them is hard and even in rave mode you'd have to scower the whole map if you didn't know where they go much which is much more difficult than it sounds
Sure. Its way easier with a guide and I guess the percentages on the games zombie trophies speak values about the accessability of the eggs. Me and my bros loved grinding the skulls before every egg to be prepared perfectly. But you know only 0,1% percent players who solved the skull eggs besides us. And yes you are right. You really have to get used to the entangler. We always had 1 Player that was missing all his shots on top of being color blind xD Glad you cam restart the Machine easily on most maps xD
@Benator97 indeed, although it is funny the skull hacker card gives you one shot so if you mess up you either gotta get the card or actually do the whole side quest lol
We didn't use the cards for that reason (besides on Radioactive, where the machine glitches without usinf a card fitst) 😅 most of the time we didn't even need to go more rounds the the normal setup for the Boss, to do the skull Maschine. Sure it was hard sometimes, but I learned playing Mahjong and the 8 Queens gamw on the way and we got permanent perks for the Boss fights 😁
@Stanley557 But yeah. The card is awful. We tried in once on Spaceland and fucking up costs you the card, so we just did spaceland without permaperks 😶 Imagine Perkaholic was not working 100% of the time xD
When people say the boss fights are unfair if you just get really good and memorise the attacks and know how to kill them you realise it’s atchually not as hard as you think just don’t panic when you get in the boss fight
Mule munchies is actually quite a bad perk in this game, as even with permanent perks (g&s, dc, etc.), you will lose your mule kick weapon upon going down
Look Stanley, should you ever go for an Extinction video for the sake of god, please force jrrizzo to take part. Must've been the biggest fan of the mode.
@koksnaseralf as much as I would like to we own it on different consoles and he's not really into zombies/extinction anymore so I don't know if he'd want to
Still haven't beaten Mehpie with my friend yet, but kinda want to try again after watching. But IW zombies has some good concepts, it just sucks it peaked with Rave imo, and then fell off a cliff
Failure is definitely the wrong title to use when even during the controversy of another future CoD zombies was always well praised. Even the Zombies channels enjoyed it.
Imma say it, I think I’m the only one who likes the Fate and Fortune cards. They’re more consumer friendly with multiple uses of the crate exclusive cards not consuming more than 1 per match even if you use more than 1. Then the buffs of the cards not being so ludicrous as gobble gums or elixirs. They feel more balanced, and the fact we got to vote for which cards we wanted from Lee Ross’s Twitter in the later life cycle is something I’d KILL to see return in BO6. I miss Lee lol
@straightuprat696 I didn't know people voted for them that's super cool. I personally felt the cards were too limiting and I only ever used them once per game/specific situation. Glad you love the system! I just didn't feel it was the best handled. Same criticisms apply to bo4 elixirs
@@Stanley557 Your opinion is fair, I would’ve liked to see what more cards they could’ve done if given the chance. And for an example of the vote, the one i remember was related to the fate and fortune card that allowed instant access to ghost and skulls with no prior steps of the quests completed. I’m not sure if those tweets can still be found anymore but it goes a long way in showing community collaboration
Ngl this video is well made but if you don't want to watch 4 H, this game will say unfair, hard, punishing, glitchy hit box, if WW2, bo1, bo2, bo3 release hard map nobody complain , but iw zombies release anything hard people will complain like there is money on the table.
I wish all of the maps had the same quality as space land, I love the game but the only map that I can play with friends is space land. Rave is okay but it’s to boring.. every other map you have to be an expert to play lol.
IW is chronically underrated i have 0 nostalgia for any games in the series since i played pretty much WaW-Bo3 in the same year and can easily say my top 5 zombies are 1. Bo3 2. IW 3.Bo4 4.Bo2 5.WW2
I definitely did not like the mode, still don't. But I can definitely see the passion that went into the mode, the people who made it obviously cared and wanted to make something good. I just personally could not vibe with it.
Honestly? I would rather have IWZ2 than play another year of IW multiplayer. I would give them a second shot at this in a heartbeat, with the one stipulation that the very very first thing they have to do is FIX. THE ZOMBIE. COLLISION.
hey my choom, I love your essay so far but I do notice that you tend to contradict yourself a lot. I understand that that can happen every so often but you seem to do it a lot. do you have anyone to proof your scripts ? I'm sorry if my tone sounds rude or condescending, I'm just trying to provide a little bit of constructive criticism. Your vids are pretty great, I commend you.
@MissyLune2003 I appreciate it. I do not, a lot of my points contradict and overlap on each other because each mechanic and feature, when rated on its own can produce a totally distinct feeling or emotion, where as a separate mechanic might make me feel another way about a previous feature on a dime. I try to view each point in isolated scenarios before coming to a conclusion at the end of each section which ties it all together. But I appreciate the feedback. These scripts take a while with a ton of constant editing and along the way I usually contradict myself based on the day.

I played zombies in space land more than any zombies. Solo damn near every time just trying to beat my previous score. Absolutely love that map
You remind me of my friend. It's adorable so keep it up 🥰
Let’s go, new Stanley upload.
I dont know if its been mentioned, but you were wrong the rat heart. It can kill as many zombies as are in the radius. Ive killed entire hordes with it before
@aquaimperative5618 oh shit really? I always thought it was 4~5
@@Stanley557 no yeah its literally amazing.
3:02 one thing to mention about Fate & fortune Card. Each time u refill it, the price increase every 2-3k per refill
@@GamingSpider115 I did not know that. Goes to show how often I refill them
@@Stanley557 yea its why i Rarely refill them as it gets higher each time
This is easily the best zombies video I’ve seen on UA-cam! Great work. Any chance you’re planning something similar for black ops 3? (Or already have, I can’t find it if you did)
@Squiddy12 I want to go through every game at some point. Currently done IW, AW, WWII, Cold War, this IW Rereview, about to finish an MWZ review, and currently working on an Extinction review. So making my way through them all! Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@Stanley557excellent news, dropping a sub to join you on the journey 🤙
I’ve watched all the parts individually just wanted to comment for support.
Having beat Mephistopheles, I had my fun
Can’t wait to watch iw has always been and still is my favorite call of duty!
I think why I'm good at iw and not good with other engines is because of the mentioned jankiness, I'm just used to it
The amount of times this man said shield and armor almost made me lose my mind. Good vid tho
@efrainrodriguez8973 thank you and I'm sorry but the lack of defensive options is geinuely one of the game's biggest faults 😭 it infects nearly every portion of this game besides mephistopheles uniornically
@@Stanley557 yea i understand
I love the game for it difficulty
I actually rank it next to bo3 in the number one spot for zombies.
Im pretty sure Mephistopheles Has been teased since rave
How to fix the slasher one make him killble only outside of rave mode so basically you go into ot he spawns then he comes after you out of rave mode and if you have friends they can kill him with you being in rave mode
I’ve been waiting for this, so happy
It’s finally out
Edit: do slappy taffy work for Shaolin WW’s?
@@gabrieldevoogel6225 fun fact slappy taffy is not in shaolin
@@Stanley557 I guess it would’ve been to strong 😂😂
2:24:00 there was a bug with a longbow sniper epic variant that completely changes the colour and lighting on the map
When people say the boss fights are unfair if you just get really good and memorise the attacks and know how to kill them you realise it’s atchually not as hard as you think just don’t panic when you get in the boss fight
What if we got 5 steps ahead just to really hammer the point home
4 hours...? FUCKING AWESOME!
Great Game For Speedrunning At one time had each WR on Rave....
god dammit Stanley i was eating chips and at 2:22:58 i fuckin spat them out at my monitor
@@IamQuinn_ I'm glad
@@Stanley557 this is why you're better than John
IW zombies is peak zombies. Everything after goes overboard
honestly directors cut is the only way to play this zombies. I would totally give up any trophies if it meant I would have been able to start with it.
48:35 can't believe they put Jamiroquai in the game
Seems pretty fair across the board, but what is all the hate for refreshing fate cards for
Loved the video!
@@SoulKitsuneyt thank you!
can confirm 1:49:37

@@Stanley557 have a great day stanley :)
why he so joyous
@@varik5224 thank you? There's just a lot to love about life you know?
A single IW map has more personality than the last few COD's combined. I miss it.
Ngl this video is well made but if you don't want to watch 4 H, this game will say unfair, hard, punishing, glitchy hit box, if WW2, bo1, bo2, bo3 release hard map nobody complain , but iw zombies release anything hard people will complain like there is money on the table.
@@sanad7754 so true
Infinite warfare has the best boss fights hands down
I wish all of the maps had the same quality as space land, I love the game but the only map that I can play with friends is space land. Rave is okay but it’s to boring.. every other map you have to be an expert to play lol.
IW is chronically underrated i have 0 nostalgia for any games in the series since i played pretty much WaW-Bo3 in the same year and can easily say my top 5 zombies are
1. Bo3
2. IW
3.Bo4
4.Bo2
5.WW2
IW has issues but it is one of the most replayable games for zombies. Id rather play IW than WaW
Stanley 557 are you skibidi sigma?
yes
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RAAAAAH
I definitely did not like the mode, still don't. But I can definitely see the passion that went into the mode, the people who made it obviously cared and wanted to make something good. I just personally could not vibe with it.
How many times are you gonna remake this
@@nman551 last one I covered what I wanted
@@Stanley557 very cool Stanley557
rizzo?
Honestly? I would rather have IWZ2 than play another year of IW multiplayer. I would give them a second shot at this in a heartbeat, with the one stipulation that the very very first thing they have to do is FIX. THE ZOMBIE. COLLISION.
The only way to like IW is to gaslight one self into it
Anyone interested in helping me with the attack of the radioactive thing? Struggling solo and no one i know plays this game 😔 on pc
hey my choom, I love your essay so far but I do notice that you tend to contradict yourself a lot.
@@MissLily2003 can you give me an example of one of my contradictions?
I’m watching a 4h video to see if I spend 40$ (it’s on sale with dlc)
10$ per hour lol
@Milkyway115 for 40 bucks for the whole game? Yeah that's a good deal hope you like it!
