I thought it the pricing of the PRS DGT SE was a little high in the UK where we pay £300 more than you US folks. In any case, I wanted to see if they actually turned out to be decent guitars or was it a little bit of hype at launch?
I'm using "Spank Lead 35" on my HX Stomp for the intro.

I received my PRS SE DGT about 5 days ago and have been playing it for hours everyday basically to set it up for myself to use on my gigs and been loving it!! Just 2 things that bugged me!! The 2nd day I decided to change to my strings and realized it came strung with 10's which I use D'Addario for many decades and here is the only things I had problems with!!1) the cover over the bridge underneath was put on by someone who might not have slept for a few days because it wasn't put on straight!! I had noticed the low E was obstructed and I had to take off the cover to change it and that's when I noticed the back plate was put on crooked blocking the low E!! When I took it off I found That if I wanted to put it on straight I would have to move it up on the rear of plate and that would leave an ugly hole where the screw was so I decided to leave it!! Then 2) pushing the E string down to remove it wouldn't budge and I had to use an Allen Key to push it down on top of the bridge then found I had to do it with EVERY string but it wasn't too bad ( if it was a core model I would have been PISSED but I felt I could live with it at the moment!)!! My other PRS (a Brent Mason Model that was a gift from guess who? Brent Mason who became a friend of mine when I lived and played in Nashville!!) and I used to go to his family's house every year for Thanksgiving and they would play music together because when Brent and brother Randy (Drums and great guitarist himself!) used to play in the family band that used to tour around the country when they lived in Ohio with Brent on guitar, Randy on drums, Mom Arlene on vocals and bass and dad Doyt on vocals and guitar!! A wonderful family who made me feel at home!! I miss them all!! But that guitar is so easy to change strings because of the locking tuners and I can change strings in 6 to 8 minutes!! What I like is Brent had the smaller Paul's humbuckers put in the guitar and the middle pickup is the strat single coil from the PRS 513 guitar and coil splitting switches that don't have the "soapy' thin sound a lot of humbuckers have when you split them!! I added a new wiring feature that when you pull up the tone know with the toggle switched for the rear pickup it turns on the front pickup BUT with the switches and 5 way toggle you can get a ton of sounds including all the pickups on at once and the switches add more to that!! I love that guitar because the DGT has like a Les Paul feel while the Brent Mason models neck I believe was from Brents NO.1 Tele neck copied with a computer so it has a tele/strat feel to it!! They stopped making them I guess because Fender put out the Brent Mason Tele but the PRS actually sounds like that guitar as well!! I have been to a couple of Brents sessions where the only electric guitars he would bring were his NO.1 and a PRS unless it was an album session where he has a whole arsenal of guitars including a core DGT Goldtop!! I figured you would like the story!! If you ever get a chance to meet Brent he is one of the nicest, warm people you will ever meet!!!
So that's my whole deal on the PRS SE DGT and I love the guitar!! Sorry I went off on a rant but I hope you enjoy it!!!
That intro track is beautiful. I don't know if it was your inspiration but your lead lines "paraphrased" the solos of EJ's Manhattan so beautifully but are all yours. Incredible playing as always John, and it seems like you're taking it to the next level. I would absolutely buy your album, when you finally do one.
Just took delivery of mine today. The answer is unequivocally YES. Incredible guitar. The neck, bridge, frets, p'ups, tuners are all top notch. Plays like butter, snarls when you dig in, volume roll-off maintains clarity. Coil splitters have always been hit-and-miss with me. Not on this guitar. I've owned $2,500 guitars that didn't play this good. Thanks for the recommendation, John.
Daughter just Bought me the PRS SE 594 for my 56th. Love it. I like this as well, but never use tremelo
I bought the same guitar, and loved it the second I picked it up. Great guitar.
Nice use of EJ’s “Manhattan” solo!
Wow! You really make it sing! I'm excited to see how generally enthusiastic you are about the DGT SE now - because I've got a Gold Top on order! I had the same misgivings as you - an affordable $845 in the US suddenly becomes around £1,000 over here (some places are charging even more), and that did make me think twice. But, like you, I took the plunge. Mine's about a month away - suffice to say, it won't sound as good in my hands as yours! 😉😎
I have a DGT SE Goldtop. Enjoying it very much. I swapped out machines to the “like for like” SE Lockers. Tuning stability has improved. It was never bad or even difficult but it’s now quite solid and string changes become much easier. I think mine might have been strung with 11s when I got it which didn’t float my boat so have swapped to lighter gauge that suits me better and tweaked the setup to account for the change.
I find it is a very responsive guitar and I like the pups very much. It’s quite a dynamic guitar and I find myself riding volume and tone knobs a lot more than I usually do. It responds very well to variable pick attack (IMO). Humbuckers or splits all positions sound great. You can blend between pups in the middle position which is why I like the two volumes. The pups feel very articulate to me.
The only thing I’m unsure about (and to be clear I love it) is that for some reason that I haven’t been able to solve yet, the 12th fret on G string doesn’t have the same resonance and sustain as everything else. It’s odd because it’s just that one fret. Maybe 11th and 13th on the G string are slightly less sustaining as well but that is really marginal and I could be imagining it. Other strings on the 12th fret (and all other frets) are fine and ring out with lovely sustain. I looked at that 12th fret wire but couldn’t see anything odd. Polished it a little anyway, but no real change. Checked it with surrounding frets using a rocker and it seems to be dead level relative to adjacent frets. Tried adjusting the action to different heights for the G string but no change. There’s no buzzing, it just dies out sooner than other frets. To be clear, I’m being pretty picky about this as this is probably the only thing I’ve noticed so far that isn’t great about the guitar and when I’m playing it doesn’t affect me. I don’t really notice it.
As I said I love the guitar and think it is loads of fun. Not unhappy with the price for what you get. It is my new daily driver. Compared to my 2010 deluxe strat the build and feel quality of the DGT SE isn’t quite as high but I wouldn’t expect it to be. But I think I prefer the SE pups over the stock N3 noiseless in the Fender.
hate to say it but at lot of this is going to be in your head, locking tuners dont help with tuning stability, once you make a single turn of that tuning peg the locking mechanism goes out the window
Could it be pickup height? The magnets might be pulling harder on that position for some reason, maybe
@@KenithCopeland - fair enough. It will help me with string changes though.
@@coffeedudeguy maybe, that is something I haven’t looked at yet. Would that be the case for just that one fret though when the rest of the string is ok? Maybe it could be. I might do some testing on that. Thanks for your thoughts.
@@KenithCopeland If you have good stringing technique, locking tuners won’t improve tuning stability. But it will be a benefit for players who find restringing with non-locking tuners a challenge.
I'm so glad to hear that my country made guitar is gettin better and better 🤘
Nice work researching all of EJ licks into this song
Love the pulsating synth bass line on the first track with your playing over the top - helps the tones sit in the context of the mix. Very 80s.
Beautiful playing....digging this backingtrack!!!...just ordered the SE DGT McCarty Tobacco Sunburst ...will be delivered Wednesday hopefully!
I’d love it if we made it! Great demo, sounds great, been considering one of these!
WOW! on that opening solo, that is an inspiring piece.
Thanks for the review. I am keen to try one of these. Where I live, a small tropical island, the shops don’t stock core DGTs, so I have never tried one. But they do now have some of these.
I did try an S2 (I think single cut or 594) but I just didn’t bond with it. I do have a core CU24 from 2008, which I bought new and that is a lovely guitar to play. It has Porter pickups in it these days.
I have the SE DGT Goldtop and love it. The quality of the build is amazing. For $849 this is an incredible guitar. I've owned S2s and Core models. I currently have two CE-24s and a core Silver Sky. The Silver Sky is probably my favorite, although it's really too close to call. I also wonder what will happen to the S2 line if the quality of the SE line is going to be as good as this DGT.
Does the DGT have a similar neck to the Silver Sky? I've been looking for a humbucker guitar with a neck like the one on the Silver Sky and from what I've read online the closest option from PRS is the DGT.
Hey Plamen, the closest thing I can think of is a Gibson 50s neck - I don't know exactly how close it is, but they feel quite similar in my hands. I think the Silver Sky neck would be a bit slimmer than this?
$849 is close to $1000 it isn’t peanuts so I would expect it to be good.
How would you compare the difference in quality, tone and feel of the CE-24 to the SE DGT? I own a CE-24 and have the SE DGT on order.
@@screaminguitar24 The quality of the two guitars is nearly identical, and the bodies are nearly identical, except the SE DGT is a tad thicker. I can't see a difference otherwise. However, these guitars are totally different from each other. The SE DGT will be a good addition to your collection. I would not get rid of a CE-24 in favor of the SE DGT.
Got one of these! Got lucky and a buyer bailed and a rep from the company I used called me so I took the chance. The more I play it the better I like it. Had to do some minor tweaking setup wise but PRS guitars are extremely easy to make adjustments on and customers are well supported with info on how to do setups. This is the most expensive SE I've owned but it is far and away better in quality in every way then any other SE I've owned. PRS seems to have been weak on the pickups in the SE line, electronics in general IMHO but this guitar has great electronics. I think its going to be a keeper. All I need to do know is to play legato like JNC.
Nice Eric Johnson tribute in the intro👍
Either you been practicing the fluidity of your runs lately or the 25inch scale length just fits right for you, you really feel like your flowing in this video, the micro-timing of every note feels really dead on.
Definitely
I trying to get myself one of these, definitely looking forward to more content with it!
I can’t stop playing mine I think my favorite out of all my guitars.
Intro track made me feel like I was a bird soaring over a valley or something lol. So insanely beautiful and epic. Really insane, melodic playing. Great composition!
John...I don't think I've heard you play like this before,,,just different & inspired...you had her singing, harmonics were beautiful ...I will be checking out the Goldtop PRS SE's are worth it to me imho I've had a 2007 PRS SE custom 22 semi-hollow, loved it! Sold to get an S2 semi-hollow satin Vela, Thanks for being you,,,
I have a PRS s2 24 standard and a mccarty 594. Back when I bought it, I was comparing it to the SE's during that time. I was hoping to buy the SE (Paul's guitar) to save some coin, but there was a significant difference in tone and quality that I perceived. From then on, I was a fan of the S2 models. It would be nice if they brought that same quality and tone in the SE's as you mentioned. I was thinking of getting the PRS DGT as well but went for the s2 mccarty 594. It would be interesting to see what PRS would do to set the s2 line apart from the SE, apart from country of origin.
Sounds wonderful to me.Fabulous playing. I ordered one back in January when they were announced - hopefully get it this week. Your demo has made me desperate to get my hands on it. Thank you!
Your not listening to the guitar your to effects and probably many take, happens with all the time with these YT guitar guy.
Got the Goldtop ….Love it
LOVE the mellow neck pickup single coil demo licks.... YES please... This is IT ! Thanks...
Man that demo was absolutely amazing
I’ve said this before about Made in Indonesia… I was very sceptical but the Cort G300 I own has blown me away and is one of the best guitars I own, on a par with £1,700 guitars or more expensive.
John, in fact I live in the South East and wouldn’t mind lending it to you for a demo.
First off: Your composition at the front end was just lovely! Now… I have a Custom 22 semi-hollow I love that I purchased due to back issues. The neck on it is considered “wide thin”. I may part with the custom as I’m way more fond of the Grissom neck.
I had a core DGT gold top with moons a few years back. Such a great guitar. Extremely versatile and good sounding. But due to cost, I just could not justify keeping it. I have been wanting one again ever since. As soon as I learned that PRS was making an SE DGT, I ordered a gold top with moons straight away. The price point is 1/4 of the core and is so much more with in reach financially. I am so much looking forward to play it, but have to wait until mid may before it will be in stock. I think it is worth the wait.
This was a really nicely put-together video. The first half was almost sort of… cinematic? I’m not learned enough to put a name to the style, but it caught my attention.
I’d consider one of these for the placement of the bridge volume pot, alone (a master vol there would work too). It looks almost Strat-close.
I've been considering a core model DGT for a while now, I just can't get past the cost of entry as it surpasses my personal comfort level. This model looks like it would tick the boxes though. I currently own a Silver Sky and a Fiore and know first hand that PRS build quality of their USA line is exceptional. If I'm honest with myself...the days of being a gear snob are gone with so much great gear being made all over the world these days. Well done John and as usual your playing is inspiring and zesty.
Youre absolutely right, I would definitely go for this. I saw someone selling their DGT locally for something like $3500 CAD, which is a steal, but I just couldnt afford it then. Now I wait and hope the person who bought it will want to let it go for the same price lol. Failing that, probably will go for one of these beauties
I just got mine today. God, what a pretty guitar. And its quality hangs with my American fender easily.
Your playing reminds me of Plini so much (this is most certainly a complement)
I have a sunburst SE DGT and it is fantastic. It did require cleaning up the nut and adjusting the action. So be aware they may need some setup work. Having said that, it is maybe the best guitar for the money EVER!
So which is it a good guitar or a cheap guitar you can afford.
@@sombrerogrande6317 What?
I have a core Custom 24 (bought used for half price), but I much prefer the body carve of the S2 and SEs
The S2 Vela guitars are amazing, though. Can't find them in the SE line.
On the 8.39, you'd noticed that it's seem to be a little bit less of a bold voice as a core model ?
Always grand to see your videos John and I love the lyrical nature your playing. I think perhaps though it might be time for you to give up with PRS. I don't get the feeling you arrive into a relationship with one with any sense of desire or wonderment so they always seem to end up disappointing you. There's nothing wrong with deciding that a particular guitar manufacturer just isn't for you.
Super cool take on Manhattan!
Ok back to the variety show feel at the start a bit of comedy 🤣 and then music 🎶 2 great songs on a Friday thanks 🙏 👍.
The guitar sounds lovely in your hands great playing makes it sound great 👍.
I thought your presets/patches are set up for single coils? Did you have to re config them for the PRS hum buckers? Either way the tone still sounds very clear & not muddy like I would have thought.
Love the Manhattan licks!
I had an SE Custom 24 for years and played it till it needed a re-fret. It’s gone now but played much better than it’s price would suggest. I also have an SE. Hollowbody 2 Piezo which is an outstanding guitar. My other guitars are an ESP Les Paul (the set through neck on those are just amazing to play) and a custom made 57 Strat (not Custom Shop - an artisan luthier who made it to my specs).
This is very beautiful music, how can i get more from it?
I'm definitely getting a SE Goldtop. I have a really sweet core DGT, that I do worry about playing out. I love my DGT, it's the guitar that absolutely spoke to me from the first note. Based on all of the reviews I've seen, I would feel very confident that the SE is an excellent replacement.
The first thing I noticed on mine was how slinky the strings felt, easy to play. I use 11s, and honestly they feel like 10s.
0:25 “what do you think of me seeing other birds?” 😂😂😂
i felt the same slinkyness when playing my friends SE santana. I have player series and ibanez RG... and that SE is way better terms of build quality. the trem is smooth as butter.. tuning stability is just amazing. the wood they used look so pretty.
I bought the PRS DGT Core after seeing so many great comments, however could not bond with it so sent it back. I don’t like the big chunky neck. I do have an old PRS Custom 22 and a core Silver Sky which I love dearly and gig with all the time.
I love the DGT model. For me LP type sounds maybe try out the McCarty?
Beautiful guitar and great playing as always.
Grissom actually helped PRS develop the McCarty and the DTG is basically his mods to it.
John’s the first person I’ve seen make that neck pickup sound good! Tone master 🤟
You playing is just so good man. Can you PLEASE find a bigger knife to open your shipping boxes?!! Maybe a sword?
Hey Michael! When the right unboxing implement presents itself, I will not hesitate
Usually I don't find PRS guitars have a distinctive sound personality and sound flattish to me. You make that one show some personality. Good playing as always.
Unless you have one of the models that are kind of specifically set up to be (some of the pickups are fairly neutral so they play well with lots of effects) then they really aren't
Nice chimey tones you got out of that guitar, with your song, in the beginning.
Waiting for delivery… BTW that’s one hell of a box cutter!
Lots of Vai/Timmons phrasing in this video. Fantastic playing and tone!
I would like to try one of these and a 594 to compare differences. I had a 2018 DGT Core model. never bonded with it.(probably I'm the only one) I really didn't care for the coil split sound. Pretty thin IMHO. Fast forward to now . About 6 months ago I bought a PRS Studio Core Model and it has become my No.1 guitar. The sustain is unbelievable. For my playing style it just works for me . FYI. I bought it from Zzounds. Fantastic company. They had a No Interest loan payment so no need to pay for it upfront, no down payment, I live i n Hawaii and they only charged me $65.00 shipping. It's normally 2 to 3 hundred dollars now. I asked, and they discounted it a little, plus they had a 45 day return policy compared to the 2 day return policy of Wildwood Guitars. It also came double boxed. Check them out. These SE guitars look and sound amazing. The quality is there. At their price point, their in a league all their own.
Your experience with the DGT core mirrors mine - I guess maybe we just got the odd ones that don't end up working for whatever reason? But yeh this one speaks to me a lot more for whatever reason, regardless of price
Do you prefer this or the Sire s7?
I have the same question
Very different guitars? The S7 is more like the Silver Sky? Hard to make a comparison here - I think the DGT SE is finished better?
Gorgeous piece of music, mate.
I bought an s2 McCarty Thinline, as a kind of SG substitute. I had to change the pickups and wiring harness. It was a little dark and muddy sounding as stock. I think if you’re gonna have to do that, you may as well get the SE and do it. Either way, that s2 was 1499 when I bought it, they are close to 1900 now and that’s getting a little rich I think. Not PRS fault, it’s a UK import / currency thing. But we all have to get used to SE guitars at 1000, S2 and nearly 2k and core at 4k plus. 😢 all great guitars though I think. You could buy an SE, change out the pickups and rule the world!
nice playing, getting a great tone there
my custom 24 SE (Korea) had such horrible plastic nut, i changed it for a GraphTEch TUSQ and the difference in tuning stability was Night and Day , the rest of the guitar was Flawless
The early SEs aren't as good as what they are pumping out from Indonesia. Cort built a dedicated PRS factory to just make the SE. I have one core and 2 SE, and the SE isn't far off from the core. The quality is similar.
@@itsalwayssomething7490 besides a ce-24 I also have SE custom 24 from 2018 with an Ebony fretboard that was around $750 at the time. Swapped the nut for graph tech. You think quality of the SE DGT is an upgrade from that SE?
Man I love your videos and that intro was spectacular, out of curiosity how chunky is that neck ? And would the tuners or bridge need to be changed? I was looking to get this for someone and wanted something that doesn't need any real work to sound good
I think the Bridge is probably pretty decent - tuners didn't seem to be a problem as stability wasn't bad straight out of the box as you are hearing here.
The neck I think is not world's different to my Gibson Les Paul Standard with a 50s neck? So not a baseball bat, but fairly chunky?
@@johnnathancordy ah thanks for the insight, no one's got them in stock where I live in agraba that helped thanks again
Wish I could find a gold top SE that’s actually for sale!
How hard would it be to swich the volume controls ? Unscrew them and swap them around ?
I don’t think it matters what you play anymore, it’s in your hands. 💎
I own five PRS's; two SE's, two core, and one wood library. I can tell you that the the SE line is getting to where it's making the S2 line almost obsolete. There are a few things that I think they could do to the SE's to make them even better, upgraded nut and locking tuners standard. The cost increase would be minimal but it would be quality of life upgrade. I would say that there is a point of diminishing returns on guitar. Is 5k core five times better than a 1k SE? No, not really, at some point it's about the the appearance more than the sound or real quality of the instrument.
I got an S2 Standard 22 on sale for less than these are going for. It's a really nice bit of wood. I think the S2 Standards are overlooked
Hey Robert! I've had a couple Standard 22s and I thought that in the hand this felt a bit better to be totally honest? But yeh the prices on these creeping up does make me wonder what they're going to do with the S2 range in general?
@@johnnathancordy wow I'll have to check them out. I agree the S2 line is a confusing value proposition. They're using Core series pickups on this year's S2 594s along with a price hike so perhaps the direction of travel is north across the board
I have to say my S2 Standard has become my grab and go. Lightweight, stable, crazy sustain and understated looks. Took a bit of TLC to get it playing to my preference but really pleased with it now. Like a worn in pair of jeans
How would you compare the neck playability of this DGT SE to a Pattern Thin Carve of something like a PRS CE 24?
I had a standard 24 s2 and it had perfect frets and edges and sounded amazing. I compared it to my buddies two custom 24 core and 10 top and it felt the exact same, I could tell my buddy was a little annoyed that he paid near triple than what I paid.
Eric Johnson in the solo!!!
You should get your hands on a new steinberger GT. I think with a pickup swap, new electrics, and a setup it would be the ultimate gigging guitar.
If that is a 24 fret the strings would bend easier because they are longer ate the break points. The electronics in that guitar are specked the same as the big dog but they are parts sources in that area and not the the same parts PRS has in the top of the line brand. they are specked the same though, They have been buying jacks from Epiphone lately and are in some of the SE models.
where can i buy your music? LOVE your playing.
excellent demo, john. i think prs are going to sell tons of these. i agree about the pricing, though.
If it's anything like the Silver Sky SE, I think over time the pricing will drop down a smidge and at which point, it's probably one of the better guitars in this price point that I can think of? And fairly interesting spec-wise?
Maybe the 24 08 switching and thinner neck on a tobacco burst Std 24 for $729 w tci pups are more for me than DGT...
John, I bought an Ibanez AZES40 last year because your video sealed the deal. Now, I have to save for a PRS DGT SE.
My 2018 SE Custom 22 (Korea) lacks snap, it is nicely made. The pickups (G&B) went out immediately, it now sports Bill Lawrence L-90 4H neck and L500L bridge + some clever wiring. I hoped the maple top would add some presence and snap, but sadly no, maybe the maple just isn't thick enough. Weight and balance is fine. I changed the frets to EVO-Gold 57/110 (6100) and that made a difference in the playing experience, but not tonally. I play at lot of rhythm so I NEED a quick attack and snappy tone. My Variax JTV-69 delivers, also EVO-Gold 57/110 frets. The scale length may have some say, but I think it's down to the woods mainly. FWIW
I think they are starting to get the factory that makes their overseas pickups, which also go into the S2 models, to make them much better and closer to the USA pickups.
What about the neck shape..? I like a bit of neck in my hand.. not the modern slim shape so much..
Thanks for the review..!👍🏼
Neck nicely rounded like a Gibson ‘58 reissue, but not as deep. Kinda like a Gibson ‘59 but being rounded in shape like a ‘58. There’s no slim flat back to the neck on the DGT.
@@djt6546 .. thank you.!
Do you like this better than the Silver Sky SE?
I was thinking about selling my Les 2012 50s Studio gold top but it has a different sound. Mine is dark and meaty I just might Buy one of these also. It's an anniversary one and it has two birds at the 12th and what a beautiful top it has. These are really beautiful guitars for the money. But how many guitars does one man need? I think it's four a nice acoustic a nice acoustic electric a Les Paul and a nice Fender Telecaster. And maybe one of these LOL
Great playing, bro. I hear a lot of Holdsworth influence
Hi John. Your playing is so melodic. Did you go to music school? What do you think are some of the basics that get you there?Keep up the great work!
3:56 "That's not a knife... _this_ is a knife!"
I hope yamaha gets you a revstar standard from Indonesia soon. Another nice guitar under 1k
"Sonically satisfying"!!! Thank you, sir......
Petrucci Fingerstyle playing. Masterclass. Greetings from germany 🤘☝️
Great demo and discussion as always . I think they’re overpriced as were the Silver Sky guitars which can -in certain colours -be bought for around £ 600 . A grand for an SE with no neck binding seems a bit steep . I just got an SE 245 and for a Les Paul style guitar it’s very bright and had competition with my Michael Kelly guitar . PRS had 9s on it and switched to 10s and feel it’s choking a bit now so a bit of head scratching to adjust the wrap around bridge . If the DGT SE dropped to the £600 point like the Silver Sky I’d pull the trigger for sure .
I reckon there's a bit of a premium for it being a new launch - like we've said, the Silver Sky SE dropped down to £600 which is actually I think a pretty good price.
I'd imagine over time, the DGT SE might drop a bit, price-to-spec-wise it probably isn't much different to a Custom 22 SE?
@@johnnathancordy The only thing that might stop a price reduction is the amount of Silver Sky guitars that PRS can sell compared to the DGT SE ?
I’m so torn between this, the McCarty 594 SE or just saving for a core.
If you can save for a core, get a core.
This is for those who are a)curious b)budget restricted c) want a safer backup or stage guitar. Theyre made very well but a core is a core and worth saving for if it is reasonable for you to save for it
@@justinguitarcia I could buy a core today, I just can’t justify spending that much since I already have two Music Men and a new baby. Lol
Hi what preset was used at the 5:30 mark? Thanks
Do you found any “soul” in it? I got both colors, my best purchase ever.
I’ve recently had a disappointing experience with SE 245s.
The first one had uneven frets and a barely adjustable bridge position.
The bridge had to be moved So far back to achieve intonation that the posts must have been drilled on the wrong place or the neck was set too far into the pocket.
I sent that straight back.
The replacement was better but the bridge pickup died.
Confidence lost, I sent it back for a refund.
Maybe the 2023 range of SEs will be of a higher standard, I don’t know.
I’m more than a little wary of them right now ...
Are those SE 245s made in Korea? Not sure....Thanks for sharing your experience!
@@johnnathancordy Standards are/were made in Indonesia IIRC.
I don't know about their 2023 ranges.
The ones that came to me would have been the end of the 2022 output, and so made in Indonesia.
Which colour has the Tobacco burst on the back? Same like the goldtop - deep red Mahagony or brown, mocca?
Totally black I think?
nice like the 1975-esque intro :D
Are the frets on the SE version as big as the jumbos on the USA DGT?
They don't say on their site specs - so without another DGT in hand I'd find it hard to say. Dave Grissom has been saying that he's playing some of them live so...you'd imagine that he'd want the same frets in them?
Nice Manhattan Reference.!!
Never been a fan of PRS for some reason, but this sounds incredible and you're on form today.
Fcuking great playing. ( I'm gonna steal some of your licks. Sorry, but they're too good not to).
Some of these are definitely Eric Johnson's though sorry
@@johnnathancordy Still sounded like you. 👍
Funny, the thing that attracts me to this guitar is the pickups and the dual volume. Exactly the things you don’t like.
My local guitar shop had one of these turn up with the wrong size nut and the wrong truss rod cover, so yeah QC is not as it should be.
Thanks for sharing!! The dual volume thing may be decent, but would you want them reversed? I think that's the main thing that catches me out?
@@johnnathancordy yeah I would rather they were the other way around.
I tend to always want my bridge on full bore but I like to dial back the neck for pretty chord tones.
So yeah the neck volume pot sees all the action.
I have the SE Paul's guitar and I am thinking of getting the SE DGT. In which way do these two guitars differ?....Or do they?
The Paul’s guitar has less vintage character in it’s tonal palette. It’s more HiFi clinical than the DGT. If anyone that dislikes PRS is ever to be persuaded otherwise, it’s the DGT model that would do it. It has a beefy Tele in steroids character about it. The PuP’s are really David Grissom’s baby (rather than the core PRS designers) which makes them quite different to the usual PRS affair. So the DGT gets a lot of respect even from people who generally don’t like PRS. Well worth you trying a DGT if you can or buy with an easy returns process if it’s not your thing. Happy shopping 👍
