Are all you Brazillian guys endorsing this pedal because it is made in Brazil ??Do you even have and use this pedal ??
Yes, besides the Aura Amps, there are other companies producing quality pedals here in Brazil.
Hello Pete, come to Brazil to have a caipirinha with us ...
Every new MIAB style pedal is always touted as being "the best".
The real reason I'm here is for Mr Thorn's playing.
Very impressive. Truly sounds like a real amp without the usual rounded high end you get with other pedals. Late plexis were pretty aggressive on the highs. If you think this is fizzy and any different from the real deal, you’ve never played one.
You are spot on my friend.
From Santo André, SP - Brazil
This is right up my alley, loved the sound.
Pete - that's a sweet little riff. Thanks for your awesome tones!
Parabéns Aura Amps pelo desenvolvimento desse excelente pedal.
Simply incredible Pete!!!!!!
the music composed for Pete's demos leaves me wanting a collection of complete compositions from the excellent demos, yes.. Mr.Pete I'm talking about you, and your music thanks for setting a gold standard by doing what you do.
Great tone! It’s impressive to see how this pedal responds organically to the the different dynamics of a tele and a Les Paul.
Luv the sound of that pedal, great playing as always Pete, thank you, Cheers
reverb.com/item/3315641-aura-brown-sugar
Great tone and playing!
Sounds phenomenal with the Les Paul!
Wow, sounds great!!
Great video Pete...
Brazil and Venezuela are killing it with their MIAB pedals
JAFO-PTY thats because here a Marshall is expensive hahaha
well to be honest, JCM800 are expensive anywhere :-(
Unfortunately ): but in Brazil, a dsl15c can reach like 900 dollars in conversion from real to dollar hahaha its a joke our system
Great jam Pete thorn
Killer playing/tones!
Yeah amazing tone as ever
thanks!
I was just listening through some bud earphones, plugged into my ph. It sounded great!
Great review!! We have good stuffs.
Killer riff!
Great demo, nice to see some Brazilian love! Check out the Ark by Darta Effects, great fender-ish preamp in a pedal
Wow nice,,, thanks peter torn to show our Brazilian pedal for the world, I never thought about you doing a video of a Brazilian Brand, thanks bro ( tamo junto amigo)
👍👍 you guys seem to have some of the best guitarists coming out of there, so there must be plenty of great gear too
Pete Thorn thanks...you and Tim could do an interview with Kiko Loureiro (Megadeth) it will be amazing. By the way you are a very talented player. Thanks for the nice demos of all kind of gear
Sounds amazing!
There ya geaux with that lick again!!
Lovin' it @ 00:37

Tha wood on top smart!.... the Marshall type knobs as control knobs....BRILL.......way to shine brazil.....
Pete could play a rock with twine and make it sound badass. Not fair. :)

ual,toca muito bem,parabéns 👏👏👏👏
ÉÉÉÉÉÉ do BRASILLLLLLLL!!!!
Fantástico pedal🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 fantástico Guitar man 🎸🎸🎸🎸
I have a JCM 800, AND several '70's Marshalls, and still cant sound this good.. maybe its cause I suck, maybe, but years have taught me, the player, and a great cab make the world of difference. So, meaning, pretty much ANY pedal in the hands of Pete, will sound great.
I love to see you playing your Les Paul!
You have to try the Pal Effects Plexi Emulator and JCM800 Emulator, then, you can tell us which one it's the best amp like pedal
This damn song is so good.
Thank you Josh!
You’ve gotta do a demo of the Tech 21 Hot Rod Plexi!!
Listen to the Weber Plexi CM Epitome pedal, a real amazing MIAB
Timbre in Portuguese should be tone in English...
Great manufacturer from Brazil!
Good to see being tested and demoed by the most beloved Guitar Nerd ever... rsrs
Timbre in English also means tone. :)
When I went to New Zealand I was just an English student, and went to a store looking for a Fender...while we were speaking I said "timber", because that was what the "translator said". The salesman looked at me and was like WTF this guys is talking about... LOL Now i know...
thanks Edgar!
Pete... May you do a comparison video between Plexitone SE, BE-OD and Brown Sugar OD?
This guy is so fucking good!
Sounds great! What are the drums you are using on the first track?
Would love to see a shootout with all the marshall style pedal you have.
Great demo, as usual, Pete.
Usually I'm a fan of Marshall-style tones, but I'm not feeling it with this pedal... There's something weird going on in the mid-range that I'm not enjoying. That sound does seem to help it stand out in a mix, though, so there's that going for it.
Isn't the almighty Carpe Diem pedal made in Brazil also?
Well on my opinion it is a different circuit,, the brow sugar it is more likely a pinnacle.
Yes ir is
As always, great tones Pete, but that guitar....Sweet Christmas
Timbre 👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
How come it taste so good?
Kinda fizzy, but you get hypnotized by Pete's playing anyway.
Remember, Marshalls are pretty "fizzy" sounding. A lot of emphasis on the highs and mids, plus presence knob.
Late plexis and metal panels from the 70s were very aggressive on the highs, thats what made them famous, for cutting through anything.
Sounds no more fizzy than my JCM800 did.
Sorry guys but I beg to differ.
The resonant bell of the pedal, although it's on the same area of a Marshall, is more like a spike, it's very narrow, while the Marshall has a rounded bell which makes the same frequencies more pleasant.
ChristianIce I got one and its not fizzy at all through my rig. It depends on personal choice, but I just back the treble a bit and boost the mids and that thing shines on a hot rod deluxe. Either way, I don’t think it sounds fizzy in ths video... it sounds like a 800
Would someone compare and comment this one with the Marvel ramble FX3 drive? Tks
Trying to find a pedal that’s a great Marshall overdrive, I’ve loved the Carl Martin Plexitone. Would you say this is better?
Pete, honestly I wouldn't be able to identify the sound of a plexi or JCM 800 without being told! I know this may be asking a bit much but with your ears and years of experience would you mind providing the settings on this pedal which will render the closest tonality to those 2 amps? As I said I have already purchased the pedal. Aura does have an instruction booklet for the amp but they have not yet translated it from Portuguese to English. The pedal is yet to arrive.
Great sounding pedal, but the PettyJohn "Gold" sounds more organic in my humble opinion. Bogner's "La Grange" does as well.
Maybe you could do a shoot-out between some of the "MIAB's" that you've reviewed in the past? Great video btw, your riffability is amazing!
John Gerson other top ones would have to include Plexitone (both Carl Martin & Wampler) and the Fridmann MIAB
reverb.com/item/3315641-aura-brown-sugar
I haven't heard much about the LaGrange in a while, that is the Marshall in a box that I purchased after quite a bit of internet research, and yeah, it does respond like an old marshall, its got the rough edges too and it is best at lower gain structures. but then good fortune smiled on me and I was able to purchase a Friedman Small Box combo. So out of my 3 premium drives, the Bogner is the most redundant because of what it is. Just my little 2 cents...
+lynyrddeville Thanks for the info, and yeah, Mr. Friedman's "Small Box" circuit is amazing! Wouldn't mind owning one of those _and_ a " 'Shirley".
John. I agree listening to PT's Petty John Gold demo yes it does sound better than the Brown Sugar. I just ordered the Brown Sugar for US148.Petty John sells for USD249.Anyway when the Brown Sugar arrives I'll come back.By the way I do already have on my board the Marvel Drive miab. What I'm after from these types of pedals is the single note clarity when chording which the best of Marshalls do provide. The La Grange is known to have quality issues.
Uau!! Brasil ta chegando longe! Parabéns Aura Amps!!Poucas coisas me fazem ter orgulho de ser Brasileiro e essa é uma delas! // Wow Brazil is getting far!Congratulations to Aura amps!!Few things make me proud to be Brazilian and this is one of them!
Orgulhoso por vcs nos representarem tão bem Aura Amps 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍parabéns .Great review Pete 👏👏👍
Doesn't seem to be a bad sound in there. Good pedal.
Pete, does the pedal come with your fingers?
Magic with the Les Paul!
can you do a review on the hotmod800 from texasharmonic.com
Hi Pete! At 5:44 where you had written " bitchin tone.I dig it." I cannot see the knob placements. Using the clock would you please tell me where you had all the dials set, if possible.?
Thank you
BP
Bass 4. midd 5 .treb 6
Pete you got to check it out the "Pedal Pal Fx" pedals made in Venezuela. Then, compare to the Aura brown sugar. Cheers.
Produtos da Aura é felicidade garantida, eu tenho e posso afirmar!
Parabéns pelo video Pete, esse pedal é maravilhoso!
Hmm, sounding like we need a back to back with the Aura and the Friedman MIAB :D
I want to hear this vs. the Wampler Pinacle.
Hey Pete! I just got one of these pedals. :) did you have it on 9 or 18 volt for the demo..? You probably don't remember anyway :)
Brown Sugar ou Palfx 800? Qual o melhor?
I would love to see a miab shootout. The bogner la grange vs this pedal.
One thing about La Grange. It can be made to sound pretty bad, I've seen a LOT of reviewers do it, and I was guilty myself sometimes. But then again, this is Pete Thorn after all, and HE knows how to get the absolute best out of anything. He could probably make a brick of lard sound amazing...So my prediction on a shootout like that one in Pete's hands? Mindblowing vs. astounding.
Hi Pete. I get rather confused about scooped mids etc., etc., so would you mind explaining using that terminology how a Marshall plexi & JCM 800 are supposed to optimally sound i.e. scooped mids, high presence/treble, scooped or boosted bass etc. etc., Kind of need a starting point in terms of where the tone controls should be placed, basically for classic rock & blues with an LP.?I just ordered the pedal by the way. Thanks
Thank you Pete. I appreciate you taking the time. How would you describe the Marshall plexi and JCM 800 tonality then? Are they scooped or prominent mids sounding amp?Low bass, high treble kind of tone? I'm just trying to get a handle on how to replicate their sounds. Thanks.
Might be the best sounding MIAB pedal I've heard yet -- at least on UA-cam. Put,...Pete is playing,...so...
Cool demo Pete! What pick are you using in this video? Thanks.
Ultex 73 I think?
Pete Thorn Thanks Pete. I know you have mentioned before you use the Ultex .73's. The pick in this video looked too dark to be a standard Tortex. Thanks again.
In the rhythm part you start playing around 2:46...it sounds like we are hearing a room mic of some kind with a sort of gnarly sound. Is that done with room reverb or did you intentionally mic the room?
MeTuLHeD The Ox load box has built in room reverb so odds are that's what it's from.
Hmmm. I must have missed where he said he was using a load box. Pete uses so many different setups in these videos it's hard to know. I just assumed he was miking an amp.
Anyway, the reason I asked is because there is definitely something ugly and fizzy going on with the distortion here. I can't be the only one who's hearing it.
He's using IR's more often than not on demos, and especially when he's at home (which I assume this space is). I think this pedal just has some fizz on tap, some people dig that some don't.
@MetulHeD Do you find it to be ugly and fizzy when he's playing over the backing track as well? Or only when you can hear just what he's playing? It took me a while to learn that what sounds great in the mix may not sound that pleasant by itself, and that what sounds great by itself may sound bad - or merely disappear - in the mix. After that, I learned to appreciate the guitar tones not only in absolute terms of what they are, but also (and rather) under the perspective of their potentials when mixed with other instruments. IMHO, YMMV, etc.
That is some tasty brown sugar indeed.
Aura products is guaranteed happiness, I have and I can say!
Congratulations on the video Pete, this pedal is wonderful!
Thanks!
hmm...i like more the catalinbread dls and the rumble fx marvel drive for that sound
I have the Marvel on my board now but I did just order the Brown Sugar.Marvel just hasn't yet done it for me. Hoping the BS will.
Were you playing this at 9v or 18v? If you tried them both, which did you prefer?
I used at 9. 18 generally is a bit louder, tighter, more headroom.
PEDAL PAL in Venezuela do two JCM800's and a Plexi all are hands down ...equal or better and twice the size and are so loaded they need the room ...hand made with stellar soldering!!! All are less then $200.00 USD ...so why is this twice the money for this one???? It's nuts!!!
No one locally can be paying this price. They simply wouldn't have the money!!! That's a given!!
These sell for USD150.
Sounds cool, like a thicker classic marshall.
Would probably be well suited for someone in a three piece band.
Meu país!!!
The right link for dollar value: reverb.com/item/3315641-aura-brown-sugar
Boa brasil...boa auru
Sounds better at low to mid gain to me. Aprox. $118 US isn't a bad deal either!
Were you powering it with 9v or 18v?
9v
Mr Thorn could fart into a pedal and make it sound amazing. Another brilliant review. 👍
Thanks Dan!
Hey Guys the price is 450 reais not dollars! Now you just have to convert to dollars.
Have any Thorn subscribers in Europe or North America bought this pedal?I would like to hear what results you have with it please.I have purchased the pedal and await it's arrival and am already experiencing buyers remorse 'cause I cannot find any other comments / reviews ( outside of the Brazilian ones lol ).Thanks.
BanditPanda I bought it. And after much hassle returned it. Based on Pete’s demo, I was very disappointed. And them being in Brazil doesn’t make the process easy.
Thanks for that Steve. Bummer.! Would you tell me what you found disappointing please? Did it not get close to the Plexi and JCM800 tones that it is advertised to do?
Well I have learned that they do now have a North American distributor so returns, if needed, may no longer be so difficult. Mine has not arrived yet. Prolly this week coming. I have asked the maker to send me English language owners manual but they are still in the process of making one. I have also asked for the settings to be used in order to get the plexi and 800 tones but haven't had any luck with that yet.
So please tell me why you were disappointed.
Thanks.
BP
IMHO the pedal sounded, for lack of a better word, weak. Not enough bass or gain. I could get it to sound decent only if I put ALL the knobs on 10. Even then, it didn’t sound as harmonically rich as my Bogner LaGrange. I’ve tried about ten MIAB pedals, and I’ve liked the LaGrange best by far. I’ve had Marshalls for over fourty years, and only the LaGrange and Wampler Plexidrive give me that sound.
I really wanted to like the brown sugar, but live it pales in comparison to Pete’s demo.
Thanks for your insight Steve. More than likely my ears are less discerning than yours. lol
I am currently running the Marvel FX which hasn't yet done it for me and previously ran the Carl Martin Plexitone which didn't get me there either.! So La Grange first choice Wampler second; both capable of delivering that plexi & 800 tone?
I’d recommend the LaGrange. I can set that so in a blind test it would be hard to tell the difference from a real Plexi. Very tweakable and versatile
Have you tried the N-Audio Firesound V3 Overdrive pedal... great pedal. Highly recommend it if you haven’t . Extremely versatile. Killer natural sounding overdrive . Retains and enhances the integrity of an amp’s tone, doesn’t smother it.
The best Message in a bottle pedal? That should be a chorus or a phaser ... hehe
É Brasil Porraaaaaaa!
Better than the Marvel Drive?
goldtop362 way better
Neco Júnior what's better about it?
goldtop362 more organic, complet eq, wider tone range...
Neco Júnior interesting. Thanks, I'll have to check it out.
Hey Neco. Do you have or used to have the Marvel Drive? Just need to know how reality based your reply is.I have on my board the Marvel for awhile now. I did just order the Brown Sugar so just wanting to know about it.Thanks.
I was expecting the price of this this to anywhere from $150 to $250. When I saw $450 I was definitely surprised.
R$ is reais, $ is dollars.
Okay...…I think I understand what you are saying. So $450 is retail? I don't know because when I tried to order the pedal I was at the checkout part of the website and it said total price $450. There was no price adjustment at final checkout. I like the pedal but wasn't about to pay that price. Hell for half more you can get a decent Marshall amp. If I am wrong please advise because I do like the pedal.
use this link reverb.com/item/3315641-aura-brown-sugar.
R$439,90 is in brazilian reais.
Hahahaha....no shit! Thanks brother I appreciate that very much.
Pete's playing man. Jeez. Stop making me look bad.
holy crap is it even possible to get a bad sound from that pedal!!
I just made a joke! So... Whats Wolverines favourite type of distortion? Logain.
YES Petes playing could sell wool to sheep, he rocks not to put to fine a point an it
Thank you sir!
Stole the drum fill from "Hey, Johnny Park!" for the intro...
Oh no another boutique pedal company is trying to reinvent the Tube Screamer!
Neil Aspinall except this is not trying to be a tube screamer at all...
The Greate sound, the best Marshall in a Box.
All I see is a guy balancing a huge Hershey's kiss on his head...or do I just have hair envy?
lol hahaha
BRAZIL
