    a lot of reviewers actually praise the MX master 3 for no reason. I find it's scroll wheel to be really unpredictable and the tracking was also really laggy. Great to see someone sharing the truth with us. You my man, deserve a sub for your honesty.

    Thanks for video. Pro Tip: for guys like me who always wanted to do this setup but didn’t know the practicalities (connections, sleep settings, power settings, mouse blue tooth vs wired connections, mouse and connector compatibility etc) You would have gotten 3x views if you had quickly spliced in how to make the actual connections and settings. Until recently I was under the impression that once you closed a MacBook, it went to sleep, or blacked out all monitors etc etc. after watching this video, I can INFER some things, but it would have been better if this was a practical guide step by step video. 👍

    Hi, following your look at the Mac mini I am wondering if I have made a mistake in my new setup. I am moving from iMac to an updated setup. I have purchased an Apple studio display and ordered a new MacBook Pro with m2 chip. I already have a 2020 MacBook Pro and intended to part exchange foe the new MacBook Pro. Already I am finding the lack of ports a nuisance and have just sort your advice on anew dongle. I am an amateur photographer and have Adobe subscription. So updating is a must. Sorry this is so long . Should I return MacBook Pro and purchase Mac mini and keep my older MacBook???

    Good video, man. I'm so torn between a Studio and a Macbook Pro. I currently have a very outdated Imac from 2014 that can't handle what I need to do these days, and I need to upgrade asap. I love the portability of the Macbook, but also really appreciate how the Studio has all of the ports already there which reduces some clutter. I sometimes imagine editing my videos at the coffee shop, a friends place, or on trips, but I'm honestly not sure how realistic that really is... Just can't seem to make a decision. You given some good arguments for the laptop option.

I basically have the exact setup as you except I went with a Benq monitor. I do have a question for you. When I sleep my Macbook I occasionally hear a popping sound from the attached speakers. Hi Kyle, since putting together your setup, have you had any issues with the Orico docking station? I purchased the same one a year ago for my M2 Macbook Air. It was great for about a year, until it basically stopped working with my peripherals (specifcally a wired mouse and external speakers). I've gotten zero response from Orico email support (multiple attempts). It wasn't cheap, and I'm terribly disappointed with the lack of support. I'm considering purchasing one of the more expensive hubs. Just curious if you or anyone else has had similar issues and if there are suggestions on fixes (if any). Much thanks for this video.

I've contacted benq and have done possibly everything to attempt to resolve the flickering but it hasn't been fixed. So my question for you is, do you have similar issues with the monitor that you use? I'm considering on buying it since your setup is almost like mine and I'm assuming yours works perfectly fine with no flickering issues?

    • @KyleErickson

      I didnt have any issues at all! I used the Orico dock for 6 months to power my Mac and used the DisplayPort on it for my ultrafine 4K with the provided cable that came with the monitor without any problems. If you’re running the display from your dock, I’d try using the same cable if possible to your Mac and seeing what happens. I know that’s not always the case, but definitely wanna see you resolve your issue properly!

    Hi Kyle,
    Since you have a 4k monitor and you are scaling it to 1440p anyway, wasn't it better to buy a native 1440p monitor?
    For my MBP, I am considering buying one:
    LG Ergo 27QN880-B - 27" 2560 x 1440 75Hz - 110ppi
    LG Ergo 27UN880-B - 27" 3840 x 2160 60Hz - 163 ppi
    I wonder if it's worth paying extra for a 4k monitor since I'll have to scale to 1440p anyway? Unless then there will be a higher ppi due to the physically different resolution of the monitor -> making the image perceptibly smoother despite scaling? Am I thinking correctly?

    • @KyleErickson
      @KyleErickson  Рік тому

      A native 1440p resolution will have a much lower pixel density regardless of the scaling. Scaling just makes things appear to more of a natural size, you'll still have all the benefits of the 4K resolution with a 2160p monitor.

    • @Panek_
      @Panek_ Рік тому

      Battery hasn’t been an issue. New macs are very good at knowing when you use them plugged in all the time. My battery capacity on my M1 air is still at 100% after 6 months or being constantly plugged in.
      No other special settings, just running in clamshell mode.

    Hey friend, do you think the base model of m2 macbook air would be enough for coding or should I upgrade the ram to 16gb.
    I’m an IT student and I do some tensorflow or pytorch python codes.
    And the second question is, is it better to upgrade the ram or ssd, due to its slower ssd on the base model?
    But something that bothers me is the price of MacBook air m2 with 16gb of ram and 512gb of ssd, I could buy a m1 air base model + an iPad air m1 for that pricing.
    Which one should I go with?
    The upgraded m2 air
    Or base model of macbook air + an iPad air.

    • @joseph_p
      @joseph_p 2 роки тому +1

      Imo, if you are getting the base model, go with the m1 air (and use the extra money for a display, iPad, or other accessories). If you want more power, the 14in m1 pro has been on sale for a while (just dropped to 1599 at a lot of places, but may be mostly sold out now). Base m1 air should be fine for most development.

    Is the clamshell mode bad for the longevity of the MacBook Air? Just the fact that it’s plugged into the battery 24/7?

    • @bazongers4304
      @bazongers4304 2 роки тому +2

      New MacBooks have a “passthrough mode” in which when plugged in and the battery is full, the computer will draw power directly from the plug instead of the battery. So yes battery longevity is totally fine.

    Great video, Kyle. Quick question about the Razer Pro Click: I was under the understanding that the Pro Click has limited functionality with Macs (since the Razer mouse software is apparently only available on Windows). Did you find there was anything about the Pro Click that you had to compromise on as a Mac user?

    Is there a docking station/drive bay combo unit that is comparable in quality (I know they serve different functions) to the Orico and CalDigit's from your other videos? I was considering the Minisopuru because of its multi-functional nature, but wasn't sure if something more established was out there.

    • @KyleErickson
      @KyleErickson  Рік тому +1

      it depends on the speed you want - anything thunderbolt is gonna be more expensive, but if you're willing to drop down to USB 3.2/3.1 prices drop substancially

      @mikeydoesit Рік тому

      @@KyleErickson for sure. It would mainly be as a means of consolidation rather than reliant upon read/write speeds. All AI/PS based work that would almost always be worked on locally and then long term stored as part of some bay/dock what have you. Just sick of having a hodgepodge of Passport-type externals.
