This is awesome seeing the Spod incorporated into a build like this.. as a former jeeping enthusiast/offroader I remember when they came out and they where the niche... it didnt even cross my mind using them in a van setup. Jason stepped the bar up for clean wiring installs. Thanks for sharing Jarrod

Jason's one of my favorite builders. I would give him all my money I had any. He installs all the high-end ish and his builds are functional and clean. The S pod is so much cleaner than a bunch of switches. The aluminum work is amazing. "The painters house is never painted" LOL

"4 hours to unscrew a bolt" I feel your pain. I am still in the teardown of my custom ambo build. I see why people who do an ambulance "build" still leave the inside looking like an ambulance.

I am about to embark on a 2003 Ford E-450 ambo conversion. PRAY FOR ME! I hope everything is going well with your build. I have been pouring over conversion videos. I am only fearing the electrical wire removal. I am going for a full tear down, primarily for the spray foam insulation. How has the build been going for you? Anything that you would change if you could do over again?

He should’ve bought a southern rig that would be rust free. It’s a shame to have that all aluminum box and then have the chassis underneath full of rust. He could be chasing issues with that chassis forever. Beautiful work on the inside. I like the Murphy bed set up. I’m surprised more ambo conversions don’t have that.

I have an ambo box here that I was gonna run on a Superduty. They are 2500#s . The scrap guys hate them as they don't crush easily. And are "comingled" with wood plastic and metal. They say even once stripped the 40/20 I-beam aluminum doesn't like to crush via excavator (how they handle most jobs) . Mine is a LifeStat

I think you guys did a really great job but what drives me nuts is when you pick cool and expensive over function. Those ARB compressors are so slow and expensive it’s disgusting. When you have 110 volts you should put in a standard compressor for a quarter of the price. If space is an issue you can remove the tank. Take it from someone who airs down a lot. I use my ARB as a paperweight now and air up with a 99 dollar craftsman and I’m off the beach in minutes.

@@JenSwarbrick1966 IM very humble opinion I do not think this person is trying to be a know it all. Ive been involved in vanlife and van builds for awhile and the issue keeps coming up as follows. People love looking at builds like this because let’s be honest. Its flippin cool. No doubt. The issue is as I and many others have learned most people do van builds out of necessity vs name that price and Ill use it here and there. They want to learn how to do something or build something at a reasonable cost.
That being said there are plenty of other channels / people you can follow for that. In the famous words of someone, I am not a class warrior. If you can go 5 star on everything why not. Looking at these builds is fun and interesting and you can get ideas for your own build. It does not mean you have to spend the same amount of money.

Ambulances come under NFPA standard 1917. The box is meant to be remounted to a new cab and Chassis as needed. Google Braun Ambulance for test and proof of survival. I worked on fire apparatus for over 22 years. CONTACT the Ambulance manufacturer before you begin deconstructing the ambulance so don't damage the integrity of the ambulance.
Buy the largest and longest body you can, 20 to 22ft will give you all the room you will ever need. Stay away from the Dealers, they know how to sell the ambulances but they don't know anything about the actual building of the ambulances which could cost you your life.
Also going directly to the manufacturer will allow you to see Demonstrator units and trade ins.
Use 80/20 extruded aluminum for structural builds and 1/4" Baltic Birch for additional strength
Rebuild the suspension, New springs and sway bars, shocks, etc. Get a new driveline and have it installed plus a few extra U-joints.
Remember that people were transported in these ambulances and they were bleeding, vomiting, oozing all over the interior. The crews weren't very good at cleaning the interior, just a mop and hot water with some bleach added . A real fast swing of the mop and they considered it clean. And the Contamination extended to the cab and exterior compartments.
You can update the cab and Chassis from E450 to F650, etc.

I have access to van in my town for sale. 2005 Ford Diesel Duel wheels but I just saw that 2003 was the last year they had an awesome diesel engine. The next few years had some issues. This unit has a computer electric issue to be repaired. So 6 months ago they were asking 20k and now 5K. But has only 18k miles. Have to do more research. I would not rip anything out. That defeats purpose.
    It has good insulation.

Thats a great price. ....expect engine issues. If you bought it, by now you know what "bulletproofing" means. I would NEVER trust a 6.0 Ford diesel. The 7.3 is awesome..but I am over ANY diesels, loving my Ford 5.4 v8 & about to run a v10 . All newer diesels have all sorts of issues. EPA has caused TONS of issues. I LOVE quiet and easy plastic cold weather starts...

    • @growingagainstthegrain2165

I don't believe it recirculates the grey water, but circulates the fresh water through the water heater. Maybe even from when the vehicle is running. Instead of using solar to heat the water. I saw such a system in another ambulance build.

It would be cheaper to buy a class A motor home all done! I stripped mine and built it back up and it is a money pit! But it is built like a tank! You can put in all the same things this one has but not as nice.
