  • In this video you will learn about WINE. WINE is just a simple application that helps you run Windows Only Apps and Games on your Ubuntu System. If you try to download any of the windows application or game on your Ubuntu system and try to run it, you won’t be able to do so. However, you can do it by using WINE. Watch full video for full understanding of the concept.
Commands that are used in the video
    1. wget -nc dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/win...
    2. sudo apt-key add winehq.key
    3. sudo apt-add-repository 'deb dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubu... eoan main'
    4. sudo apt update
    5. sudo apt install winehq-stable
    6. sudo apt install winetricks

I am using an Ubuntu 20.x LTS and the only difference that I experienced was that "winehq" is just "wine" i.e. sudo apt install "Winehq-stable" is for me "wine-stable" and the versioning default for the install is wine 3.0. Good tutorial and easy to understand with a few minor hacks which is the Linux calling card.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
    winehq-stable : Depends: wine-stable (= 6.0.0~groovy-1)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
you know to fix this problem? thank you

Thanks for the excellent tutorial. By following tutorials I can get Wine working in Linux Mint 19.3 but only by using a tutorial with more steps than yours & for Debian 10 it is even worse - the only method that worked for me involved using a tutorial that included a section designed for Suse. Ideally, Wine would be a simple one click to install or Synaptic would offer a Wine version that included desktop integration. This would be so helpful for people new to Linux. Too many smart people working away in their own little silos & nothing ever gets co-ordinated in Linux.

Cool. I had trouble with having an internet connection with a program I am running on wine but I saw using wine control that there are internet settings there. I will give that a go when I get home to see if there is some setting I need to change.
    Thanks for the video :)

I keep getting this NO MATTER the guide i follow:

Warning: apt-key is deprecated. Manage keyring files in trusted.gpg.d instead (see apt-key(8)).

I don't know why but every time it is failing by network issues 101. My internet is really fast and is working. I tried running multiple times, but its failing. Pls help

I got the same issue after the last update. Tried to re-install without the update but I think the iso was updated or something. Same thing happened to me with pop os. Now went for pop os and avoided installing updates. If anybody knows the solution please help !

hi, i was having the same issues, but i found help in this article: itsfoss.com/how-to-fix-problem-with-mergelist/
what worked for me was running the commands
      sudo rm -r /var/lib/apt/lists/*
      and then
      sudo rm -r /var/lib/apt/lists/*
after running those two in the above order, and then running the
      sudo apt install winehq-stable
command, i was able to install wine.
i just wanted to share what worked for me, in case you hadn't already tried it. i hope this helps!

doesn't work for Intel architecture, if you pay attention the package is "amd64" so if you have Intel you cannot run Wine=Linux is useless cuz the best apps are for windows
