Four SERIOUS Problems with LASIK Surgery

  • LASIK is on the decline and there are four big reasons why.
In this video, Craig Moskowitz, MD, FRCSC reviews these reasons and explains why safer, non-cutting procedures like Advanced Surface Ablation are becoming more popular.
    Problem 1: The Procedure Itself
THE FLAP is the fundamental problem with LASIK and the thing that leads to both short term and long-term complications. Cutting the flap is also quite hard on the corneal nerves, the ones that tell you when to blink. The nerve damage tends to result in a lower blink rate, and dry eyes are not far behind.
    Problem 2: The LASIK Industry
LASIK is an expensive, out-of-pocket procedure. So naturally there’s a big corporate interest in selling it to more and more people - even when they aren’t great candidates and despite mounting evidence that there are safer alternatives.
Problem 3: Government and Media Scrutiny
Even though the FDA’s proposed guidelines are still under consideration, their 2022 announcement shined the media’s spotlight onto LASIK risks and complications and handed a megaphone to critics of LASIK. Many of these critics are well-respected ophthalmologists who have been warning consumers about LASIK for many years.
    Problem 4: Gen Z
The vast majority of people get laser eye surgery in their twenties and early thirties. At my practice, the average patient age is about 26. So, this means LASIK practices and their ad agencies are now really trying to convince Zoomers and younger millennials to get LASIK. I think that’s proving a hard sell.

Yes. I had lasik just over a year ago. It was a mistake! To many complications I WAS NOT aware could happen. I’m still using eye drops all the time ($$$) and I have neuralgia. I’m very skeptical of modern medicine now. Prefer natural healing.

How were you diagnosed with neuralgia? What are your symptoms? I had lasik over 7 years ago and one of my eyes has been drier, and hurts to move around and it feels like it scrapes the lids.

@@ForeverChiIIin I wasn’t officially diagnosed. I certainly feel like I have symptoms of it. I try to ignore it and go on with my day. Some days are better than others. Usually a high dose aspirin will help take the edge off. Anyway, I’m a member of the LASIK complications group on Facebook. Also, the dry eyes is insane even a year and a half later post surgery. I definitely regret doing this!

      @@AquaVivaFit I feel the same
Man really and I’ve tried my best to forgive myself and not look into the past. It’s really tough. I just wanted to know what your symptoms
Were that would make you suspect you had CN. At this point after this many years of feeling the same thing I honestly suspect it could be anything. It’s all very frustrating, and yes the dry eye is still an issue. Just need to stay strong and keep pressing forward for better days and praying for a cure or relief in the near future.
