The COT is a great tool to look at. I would ask that you teach a bit on how we as retail traders look at COT data and how you would relate your view based on tradingster.com COT data? I feel like they provide the best presentation but not sure how to integrate it with how you view the market. The non commercial are the hedge funds..the biggest speculators in the market..the commercial are just huge companies..that buy Foriegn currencies to protect themselves..from the market..they aren't really in it for the profit..
Non-Commercials are Big Speculators aka banks, large hedge funds. This are people whose main priority is to make money from the market just like us retail traders. While on the other hand, Commercials are big business like I.e Apple, Microsoft or even governments...whose main priority is to hedge and not make money. They usually oppose what non-commercials are doing. If non-commercials buy at the support zone, commercials sell here. Commercial guys suppress the currency from being too weak or even sometimes, too strong. The words speculators and commercials are important here. Speculators=non-commercials aka smart money speculate that GBP is gonna get weak, so they open more short position to sell it against USD, their aim is capitalize on this situation and make money, hence we must follow them... They have a lot of money hence they move the market (More than the commercial guys). COT makes their intentions available to us mere retailers so we can be able to follow them. Nick's patterns, market structure and COT data interpretations come together very well to give you this elusive edge we scramble. Are you from SA?
Very nice explanation, but.... The report is issued in Tyesday, gets emailed to us on Friday afternoon. This means you can only use it to trade Monday and Tuesday morning before the new report is in effect ( which we won't get till the following Friday) how do you solve this dilemma?
Can i ask you a question? How does %Long and %Short being calculated? I learned from other website that %Long= Long Contracts/(Long Contracts + Short Contracts) but the %Long in your spreadsheet doesnt have the same result with this formula. What am i missing?
