This! I was raised in Manchester in the 80s by parents who had "professional" voices, and so I spoke like that, too. The rest of my family had stronger local accents. I've been down South since 1996, so I hardly even sound Northern any more - but when I'm back home, I speak like Mum and Dad, and if I'm around a lot of strong accents from up there, the full Manc comes out.

The accent you end up with is a spectrum of your natural accent and the accent of who you learn from/ your environment. It's weird to tell someone "oh it's your second language? My family travel alot because of my dad's job. We learned local languages and dialects. So now when we speak to people from those places we adjusted our dialects. We are adaptible like that. You should be proud of it.
As a child, we vacationed in NY, NC, FL, & IL to visit family. I always picked up accents and colloquialisms. Not sure about gestures, but I've learned some in the machine shop where I now work.
