I stumbled upon this film merely by chance, while searching for something that could ignite my thoughts about how to better understand current events, and all I can say is "WOW!!" I just finished watching your incisive documentary about the realities of our social conditioning and it has impacted me profoundly!
I applaud your courage & determination to take on this journey and explore the roots of your lineage to shed some light on such hard truths that are so difficult to digest. I can only imagine how much harder it must have been for you to face your own heritage and attempt to dismantle the burden you most certainly carry within, all be it, through no fault of your own...
Thank you so much for your humble contribution to our society with this documentary! I only hope it can keep touching people's lives and opening their eyes to the gruesome reality we live in, and perhaps be a catalyst for the collective change we so desperately need in order to achieve real equality.
I want to close by saying, on a personal level, that I teared up with you at the end, and I hope you realize that Aunt Mary Harris' memory now lives on thanks to you, regardless of the amount of information you were able to gather about her existence, which is much more that can be said about countless other lives that have been senselessly lost throughout american history, due to slavery, racism and discrimination.
I wish you the very best! Blessings and hugs to you and your family!
    - Jerry Montañez

In the process of watching the documentary. And though hood so far, there has to be an acknowledgement of who we all, and what roles we all play, and is what most film makers, authors, historians, etc anthropologist. Only a hand full have touched on the identity of those people who were enslaved. These facts will shine enormous light on why there has been such a resistance against black people.
When can not just start at slavery here in America, but we have to go back to the time of scripture, when every nation that came against Israel knew who they were and what they looked like. And when hide the identity of a people you can not then attend to replace them with other, because there is a history that only those people know. It also hinders the growth of nations an people who stand in opposition to them, because there is a greater power at work.
This a tale of two people where one is subjection to the other because one is evil. This is the history of a people chosen by God, and whos rebellious ways called forth God wrath against them. Those people who enslaved us were called of God as the vessel of affliction.
We have to stop looking at only apart of the story.

Great contribution for the enlightenment of new generations on slavery, Jim Crow and institutionalized/systemic racism in the United States.
By the way, your mother is truly amazing (I saw "An Ordinary Hero" as well). Blessings to her.

I’m a 74 year old, black, female, veteran, and above all else, direct descendent of our Creator. Slavery/bondage is not something that just happened to America. The original continent/Africa/man/human has enriched the entire planet, and all of its peoples and countries within it. It has also been held in bondage by the entire social economical structures created by other entities from I don’t know where with their so-called history. How can they set up structures on this planet that are so evil and still call themselves human. I think not. I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer, and as a child, when I read my Bible and Apocrypha, it was plain as the nose on my face that there’s been some lying going on around here. History is just that, his story, and the Bible was the story of the original man. My mama told me that if you tell a lot long enough you will believe it and I do believe that whole world has been converted to a ghetto, or, should I say the valley of the shadow of death that was talked about in real history. It wasn’t created that way, but this evil thing which has infected the hearts and minds of some is truly insidious. It’s as if there is a metaphysical disease that some of the inhabitants of the planet has all contracted to one degree or another. There are only two fathers, camps, etc. in the universe that I reside in and that is good or evil. As for me and my house, we choose to follow our Lord, Savior,Creator Jesus Christ. My knowledge disability is really showing now because I lack the words of the Creator’s true name. There is no lacking in my heart/soul for the truth that is what I truly believe, and know. I am a direct descendent of God .

I thought it was odd that the family Bible stated that Mr. Mulholland's grandmother was born June 31st 1908. Did June have 31 days in 1908? June only has 30 days.

This is why film makers are not historians! He neglects to tell you that most Southern and Eastern Europeans were not considered White People yet according to his standard being considered white today makes your ancestors White a century of two ago when it was anything but the case. Try running for high office with an Irish , Jewish or Eastern European family name a century ago. Try applying to a university! Those people became White in the last 50 years. The KKK had one than one incarnation. Their victimization of entire groups of what we today would call white people today did not make them White 50-100 or 200 years ago. Their children and grandchildren were denied the full benefits American society including but not limited to wealth and inheritance.
When JFK ran for president being Irish Catholic was still considered problematic in terms of being president. This is what happens when a WASP with no educational credentials makes a film about race while not realizing that most white Americans descend from people who were not considered full citizens. Only 15% of Americans are fully WASP. The rest come from their own experience and their own history of discrimination, disenfranchisement and hate.

LOL - This is what happens when a white person gets butt-hurt about a film on racism and has to make it about them. I actually am a historian but the film wasn't about discrimination faced against immigrants. You might note that I didn't talk about the genocide of American Indians or what happens against Hispanics. Of course, it should be noted that while those white immigrants faced discrimination they were able to eventually assimilate into society and, quite frankly, didn't face anything in comparison to African Americans. When you're Black, you're Black. When you're a white immigrant, you're white until you open your mouth. However, what's most telling about your comment is that you seemingly ignored the atrocities that took place against African Americans in order to defend your own insecurities as a white person (you know, the whole slavery thing and all). Honestly, I usually don't reply to such nonsense but when one makes me laugh I sometimes just can't resist. Good luck with your life and let me know when you make a movie on the points you feel so strongly about. I'd like to see it.

So, Chandler is declaring his family were indeed slave owners. Even deeding slaves to other family members.
So, he makes a documentary about racism and he clearly is making money from this documentary I'd assume. So, isn't he in essence still making money off of the Black experience in America? If anyone owes reparations is a descendant of slave owners which he has openly admitted.

Less than 3% of the population in America had slaves. In fact, they were not slaves until that was made a law, allowing ownership of humans in 1850 by the Democrats.
